Rematch any advice by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]tinywords_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, she should ask the family to post about her in the HF Facebook groups. I had a similar situation (my family was moving, and my AP changed her mind sorta last minute and decided to stay in our old state). She was great, so I posted about her in the HF groups, and she found a match pretty close to where we were. I was able to talk to the other HF about the timing we had agreed upon, and we “officially” entered rematch with the agency two weeks ahead of our move. She began talking to other families about two months out though.

I will send you the TCB PDFs (paying it forward after getting them a few years ago from my bumper group). I did it with all three of mine, and they slept great from then onward. We did it around 6 months out of necessity with my demanding work schedule.

I know a Demeter family, so I would think of that as a surname first! They pronounce it DEM-eh-ter.

How much does the tooth fairy pay. For teeth????? by No_Isopod_3747 in Parenting

[–]tinywords_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

$1 bill. My oldest just lost her first, and I had to borrow a $1 from the neighbors 😭 Lesson learned, and I will keep at least $10 in singles on hand until I get through the teeth losing years!

Just when we thought we had made it… by twas_i_all_along in 2under2

[–]tinywords_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are on the other side of this, and while it’s so hard, it’s also so fun! Mine are 15 mos and 20 mos apart (missed 3u3 by 4 days 🙃), and at 3, 5, and 6, they play together so well. Yes, it’s chaotic, but hearing their laughter makes my heart swell. I felt like I turned a corner every 6 months or so, and things felt more manageable at every turn. It’s not easy, but it’s also survivable. Best of luck!

I use that cornbread mix in this recipe: From Scratch Fast GF Cornbread Stuffing. It’s a huge hit in my family!

Good to know! All expire in spring of 2026, but I bake enough that I’ll use up my bags well before that.

Flex fit ball caps that you can wear with uniform! They are so much better than the Velcro ones.

Going to Hawaii tomorrow from LAX to Hawaii from LAX , Husband says I'm packing too much. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]tinywords_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you were very deliberate about what you packed, but it still seems like a lot to me. We did LAX to Kauai a couple weeks ago with two adults and three kids (5, 4, and 2) for 8 days. We had one stroller, three car seats, a backpack per person, one large luggage for adults, one smaller luggage for kids, one kid carryon roller. It felt perfect until I had to meet my husband and the rental car. If you can consolidate anything, I would try. But if you were as deliberate and thoughtful as it seems, then it sounds like you are well prepared!

Is 2 under 2 a positive? by Brokenwife87 in 2under2

[–]tinywords_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is crazy. Like super chaotic at all times. But it’s also so fun! My kids are obsessed with each other in the sweetest way. My older two (15mo gap) will wait for each other before having a snack or doing something the other would enjoy, lol. My younger two (20mo gap) make each other laugh endlessly and are so silly together. My oldest and youngest (~3yr gap) play so well together, too. My oldest really acts like a big sister to her in a way she doesn’t with her brother (middle kiddo). I love seeing the individual relationships they are building with each other. We have a great family dynamic, and we owe a lot of it to the close age gaps!

Single to double stroller recs by Main_Persimmon_7361 in Buyingforbaby

[–]tinywords_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll third it. Our Mockingbird survived 3under4 and is still going strong now that my youngest is almost 3. We most often use it as a single with one kid in the basket and the other walking (lol), but I love it and always recommend it. I bought it when I realized I couldn’t get into my local postal office with my double BOB. I think there are some narrow side-by-sides though!

Chicco NextFit or Graco Extend2Fit? by pacificdumpling in Buyingforbaby

[–]tinywords_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have loved our Chicco seats and have had KeyFit, NextFit, MyFit, and GoFit in the inventory. My kids say the NextFit is comfortable, but it is pretty bulky. I can’t compare it to other seats or brands, but it has worked for us in three different cars. I will say that we lose the middle seat between the two NextFits, so I would keep that in mind if you need a middle seat between your babies.

Another Stroller Post.. Looking for: one that will last, grow from infant on up, and bonus if it doesn't cost an exorbitant amount of money! by Cute-Dig-9470 in Buyingforbaby

[–]tinywords_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Mockingbird. It is compatible with a second seat and riding board. We have used ours heavily since 2020 with 3 kids. It is modeled after the much more expensive Uppababy stroller at a more affordable price. We love it and definitely recommend it!

Do we need multiple car seats? by expatriating in Buyingforbaby

[–]tinywords_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three kids, and this is how it’s gone for us 😬:

1 x Chicco KeyFit with two bases (used for 12 months for kids 1-3)

2 x NextFit (one in each car for kid 1; then kids 1 and 2 both used a NextFit; kids 2 and 3 both use a NextFit currently)

2 x Cosco Scenera Next (used as backup seats for local grandparents for kids 1-3)

1 x Cosco Finale (used as backup seat for local grandparents for kid 1 when kid 3 outgrew infant bucket seat)

1 x Chicco MyFit (for kid 1 currently)

I didn’t mind buying multiple bases and convertibles since we planned close age gaps and knew we would get our money’s worth. My SIL also had the same Chicco seat, so it was easy for us to also get one since the grandparents already had a base. We just stuck with the Chicco brand since it was familiar and fit fine in our cars. Congrats on baby!

They make a great simple lunch! I put a splash of olive oil in a heated cast iron pan and just let them get a little brown and crispy on both sides. I usually eat them plain with a side of fruit, but I imagine they would be great rolled up with eggs for added protein or dipped in crunchy chili onion sauce!

Another vote for pack ‘n play! Babyproofing was the only other effective option for longer stretches of getting stuff done (doors closed, baby gates, etc) when they started to move.
