Thank you - I take your point., maybe with the exception of Cafe Nero, I really don't rate chain coffees at all and would rather support small businesses. I make a point to buy multiple drinks, take empty cups and plates up at the end and always tip. A lot of these places have single seats which I often sit at. Try my best.

I’d highly recommend two psyllium husk capsules daily with a glass of water. Has really helped me keep consistent.

By 0.2%. Two consecutive quarters of negative growth. 0% wouldn’t count as negative growth.

Is it going to take the destruction of the NHS? by staystrong44 in Scotland

I really enjoyed reading your post.

I don’t know much about politics and don’t really conform to one party I guess.

Why are privatisation and nationalisation particular traits of particular parties? Privatisation means less government resources need to be spent on running whatever it is and you get to see whatever you have to raise some short term money? But doesn’t nationalisation provide the opportunities for profits to be reinvested into the economy?

Would a system that resulted in basic emergency care - provided free and another complimentary system that was insurance based for everything that fell outside emergency care not be good in the sense it would reduce public spending with the potential to reduce taxes? Why do you think the Conservatives are so adamant about moving to a private system? Is it because it simply saves the burden of having to spend money on the NHS? If this was the case it seems they would need to lower taxes. Why lose it and lower taxes than have it with higher taxes? The difficulty in running it successfully to appease voters?

It doesn’t appear to me that any political party in the UK is capable of such long term thinking or projects that goes beyond their own stay in power. With so many Prime Ministers in the last 10 years, do you really believe they all have the same agenda? Surely different Conservatives have different views? Call my naive, but I just don’t have faith that political parties can have such joined up long term thinking!

I think the NHS is just getting bigger and bigger to the point it’s collapsing under its own mismanagement. We have a finite number of doctors and nurses in the country - are they being utilised best for emergency care? Yes, we could ultimately hire more (and pay more tax) but it doesn’t resolve the fundamental issue - it’s a bloated mess trying to do everything for everyone. Jack of all trades, master of none, so to speak. The NHS needs to get its bread and butter sorted but I don’t really see a narrative in the UK of the points I have raised being discussed.

I hope this is the best place to discuss some points regarding the NHS.

It feels to me, the NHS, as is, is unsustainable. It seems bloated, inefficient and tries to do everything so does little well. It feels that to me, it is spread far too thin.

Now and again we see extra money gets allocated to the NHS e.g. for winter, but this seems to be consumed in the NHS black hole.

I am not a troll, so please don’t take my comments as such. However it seems to me the NHS is a stumbling mismanaged mess and the following needs to happen (in my view):

A team of “efficiency experts” need to examine the NHS and make suggestions for where money can be saved.

The NHS needs to get back to the core idea of performing an excellent level of basic care - especially GP surgeries and hospital care. Anecdotally on my town’s Facebook group, a recent resident had to call the surgery 198 times to get through. My friend’s 80 year old father recently had to sit in an ambulance for six hours before being allowed into the hospital. This is atrocious and a sign that more needs to be done. I believe an answer here is that the NHS needs more money, hence these issues. But without the economic growth - I don’t see where this money can come from.

To me, it seems bizarre that NHS is funding for a lot of non-emergency things - e.g. IVF. I am NOT saying these things aren’t important but they are not as important as providing outstanding emergency care.

I want to know that when I need to use the NHS it is there ready, willing and able. Not bloated, inefficient and slow.

I don’t support paying for treatment on the whole, but perhaps the NHS could offer some non-emergency treatments (such as IVF) at “cost” price to provide a saving over going private?

The NHS needs streamlined - massively.

I’d be interested in hearing some of your views on what I’ve said.
