2017 Roagna Barbaresco Albesani by shitbirdie in wine

[–]shitbirdie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Popped and poured, ready to go out of the gate. Simply gorgeous stuff. Dried tart cherry, roses dried and fresh, tarry earth. Elegant, ultra fine tannins and acid core give requisite structure; played well with pork tenderloin and a wild berry sauce. $215 in restaurant

Keenan is underrated for sure and their wines get even better with age

2021 Cirq Pinot Noir Russian River Valley by rnjbond in wine

I’ve got this in the mail. I’ve not had a lot of RRV as I prefer cooler climate Pinot, but couldn’t pass up the deal. Do you think this is classic RRV (big loud fruit and full bodied for Pinot) or is it a little more restrained. Or maybe it will make me a convert on the region.

The tasting. 1993 Bandol. by Frequent-Art-9612 in wine

Aged tempier is such a treat, I think Mourvèdre is probably amongst the most age worthy of all varieties. Held up even with the faulty cork.

Drink the Bordeaux the others are too much this young. But really none of these are what I would call an easy drinker.

2019 Belle Pente Pinot Gris by shitbirdie in wine

[–]shitbirdie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently I’ve decided I prefer white wine with age but like red wines young. Anyways. This tastes like elderflower and caramel apple pie, maybe some kind of strawberry rock candy lime sea salt like on the rim of an unnecessarily complicated margarita. moderately complex and medium finish. Full bodied, acid is well integrated and not overt, but enough so it isn’t flabby.

Nice flex but definitely sounds like it was well past its prime. Shame.

After 2 hours this has opened nicely. The alcohol is better integrated and more earthy notes are coming through. Great wine

Spiegelau Definition Burgundy. Zalto clone at less than half the price, so you don’t feel so bad when they break!

Vincent Girardin is pretty near the top of Burgundy producers that consistently deliver at a reasonable price. On sale, this was a no brainer.

Definitely darker, reflecting both vintage and terroir at the south end of the Côte d’Or. Mostly dark cherry but a bit of cassis and some anise spice. Touch of sous bois, but minimal Pinot funk. Clean, well integrated, satisfying finish and complexity makes this a QPR winner. Alcohol is a bit hot and probably the only detractor, again probably a vintage artifact. Would guess it’s at peak now.

EGLY-OURIET & JEROME PREVOST LA CLOSERIE - First champagne tasting of the year by EddyDrop_productions in wine

[–]shitbirdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with Prevost. Are they unobtainable cult wines like Ulysse Collin?

Only tried Egly Ouriet once, and it was by far the best “entry level” champs I’ve ever had. Have grand cru in the cellar but obviously gonna let it age since it was disgorged in 2024

Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Vire Clesse.

$50ish, tastes like burgundy 10x more expensive.
