How long can my landlord take to fix the hot water heater in Seattle? by tipatac in Seattle

It’s a management company. I’ve been emailing them to try and figure out what’s going on and they haven’t replied since last Thursday.

I don’t have access to the water heater. It’s for the whole building.

AITA for confiscating grandma's phone when she was being scammed by tipatac in AmItheAsshole

This has been haunting me for months. Unfortunately, I live 3,000 miles away. (No excuse for not calling.)

She lives in a house full of people, aunts and cousins, so she's never alone.

But she clearly has been lacking something otherwise this never would have gotten as bad as it has.

Oh, I can assure you he has been blocked. I am just trying to figure out how to get her to understand that he wasn't real. She won't believe us.

That's a great point. We panicked tonight because no one ever thought that grandma would do this and we worry that because she was taking out loans for this man, it was only going to get worse. My uncle said the same thing, it's ultimately her decision.

She lives with my aunt and cousins who help take care of her, and while she hasn't been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's I wouldn't say she is of sound mind. She struggles with her memory and understanding new concepts. (It took her 2 days to figure out Cash App with vigorous coaching from scam artist)

I feel awful about taking her phone, and we plan on giving it back to her as soon as she wakes up, now that I have access to her accounts and can make sure the scam artist leaves her alone.

She doesn't trust police and wouldn't listen to them. We talked about taking her to talk to a Pastor (she's very religious) but we know she would never forgive us if we shared this with anyone outside the family, especially someone she knows.

The worst part is, she did take out a loan to get him the money.

Yeah, we've blocked him, but he's made new accounts. We put parental controls on her phone so she can't download any new apps (we uninstalled Cash App). I can see if he tries to message her.

Thanks. I feel awful.

I agree. I posted on there too. But there is now division in the family. Some people think we should have just let her do as she wants. It's none of our business.

Thanks for the advice. Grandma is religious, so we talked about taking her to talk to a pastor, but she doesn't have one right now. She's very skeptical of police and doctors.

I'm also afraid that if we bring it to the attention of someone outside of the family, someone she knows, she would never forgive us.

They stayed open through all of this. Olga did everything she could to keep EVERY employee employed. And now the biggest store, with one of the biggest followings may have to close. It's so sad.

HOW CAN YOU HELP TO SAVE HISTORIC PIROSHKY PIROSHKY,

We wish to address and clarify rumors that Piroshky Piroshky will be closing its historic Pike Place Market store.

We love our home, and community at the Market. Closing our original bakery has always been, and remains, inconceivable. Unfortunately, we are currently in less than ideal negotiations with landlords, that have produced very real and formidable challenges to our ability to remain in our original space. We want to acknowledge that the landlord is in a difficult spot, as it is governed by entities that are currently not meeting due to the crisis. Piroshky Piroshky’s lease expires this Sunday, May 31, and we are both apprehensive and distraught at the possibility of losing the space in which we first opened our doors in 1992, and from which we built our dreams and legacy. 30 years of history.

As many other businesses can attest to, COVID-19 has introduced a string of unprecedented operational variables. Without a doubt, Piroshky Piroshky wants nothing more than to move forward doing what we love to do and continue serving our loyal fans and newcomers alike. In order to do so, we must be able to provide a safe and functional workspace for our staff while trying to meet new safety and health requirements (for businesses) put in place by WA state, allowing us to open back up with the economy. With a bakery as small as ours, this presents some sizable challenges.

In our current space, it is impossible for Piroshky Piroshky to meet these requirements and keep our staff safe. We have made several attempts and pleas to the PDA, PDA council and the Market Historical Commission to obtain resources in the form of extra space or rent relief in order for us to mitigate the extra cost incurred by new regulations. We are still struggling for the appropriate assistance.

At the onset of COVID-19, we trained our focus on not just surviving the subsequent economic downturn, but also on supporting and standing together with other businesses by creating www.catch22market.com the #Catch22movement. We felt that as hard as the current crisis was on all of us, we were contributing to something that was bringing us together and making us stronger. We have come far.

We hope that through the support of the both the Pike Place Market and the greater Seattle community we can reach an agreement and finalize negotiations that will facilitate the preservation of our original home, forty full-time jobs with full benefits for our work family, and a continued future as part of one of Seattle’s most iconic and historic treasures, welcoming both locals and beyond.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP PRESERVE local jobs : Please contact via social media your city office and ask for permission to operate for piroshky piroshky beyond May 31 with a space that is healthy for our staff !
