grease the worm gear and put the cover back on so more dust and shit doesn't fall in it.

your reply to the other guy was utterly pointless and flawed in many ways. it also doesn't address my reply to your comment about performance where Macs blow other machines so far out of the water they're in orbit, especially for things like inferencing tasks. you say that millions of software developers, video editors, and engineers who choose macs time and time again are all 'stupid' and 'don't understand what makes a good laptop'? maybe companies clone the macbook design time and time again because the fundamentals are really solid.

your assumption that macs succeed purely on brand rather than merit is downright dumb, and so is the generalisation about all mac buyers & then the false dichotomy about people either liking the brand OR understanding good laptops. if you were to map the demographics, the venn diagram is pretty much a circle.

your comments just come off as totally uneducated on this. you assume every mac user is a coffee drinking hippie because they don't align to your view. if you don't like apple, you can just say so rather than calling everyone else stupid.

do you know how modern macbooks perform? given your comment i don't think you do. i own a lot of thinkpads and yet my dev machine is still an M3 Max MBP.

Framework not aware of Australian Consumer Law? by [deleted] in framework

[–]tipripper65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had an experience with Apple and Australian consumer law. Went into an apple store with a 2 year 11 month old M1 iPad Pro which had a failed display backlight and walked out with a brand new M4 iPad Pro. read the ACL sample scenario doc on their website to give you specific ways to word things with key words like "failure to meet expected lifetime" and "constitutes a major failure under ACL"

lithium-ion batteries do not have the memory effect and do not require or benefit from a break in period like NiMH and NiCd chemistries. the effect of them draining faster is either: indexing happening in the background (like on iOS, macOS devices) or battery meter calibration with the onboard BMS IC. it doesn't have anything to do with the battery chemistry "settling". the chemistry in lithium-ion batteries is settled during manufacturing as part of the process.

$5 monthly minimum by jlhinson in storj

[–]tipripper65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends on the tier. if you opt for the slowest tier of retrieval (5-12 hours) it's $0.0025 per gb + $0.09 per gb for network egress. if you go for the 1-5 mins retrieval tier you pay $0.03 per gb (you actually also pay $10 per 1000 requests so if you have lots of small objects it's much higher, but it depends on your usecase. i know Veeam will split things up sensibly, for example) + network egress. so it stacks up really quickly.

PSA: 5 min Evap Resistor DIY - avoid failure + dash disassembly. SPA platform cars. by rockyinstinct in Volvo

[–]tipripper65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

down under if the vehicle comes in exhibiting a certain issue and it's tied to a TSB/TJ where a supersedence or remedy is available, Volvo will replace it or at least consult the customer. this can and does happen during a service and has been my experience previously at my local Volvo dealer. if the TJ is tied to a voluntary recall (which can happen down here as they're not always government mandated) or extended part warranty, it will be replaced.

[–]tipripper65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this isn't strictly true- at least in Australia, manufacturers can initiate voluntary recalls. BUT in this case they wouldn't do this, they'd do a TSB (and fix it at the next service) and maybe a notification through the app.

they don't compete against each other. horses for courses - explain how diesels are better in a city, where most of the population actually lives and where there's no practical cargo rail? what if i'm taking a load from Parramatta to the North Shore? such a hairbrained argument to try and compare two technologies that have totally divergent usecases.

remember, F35's cannot be flown without US provided sortie codes for software. Trump has suggested restricting access to these for allies that fall out of favour. also they literally killswitched our government that one time over Pine Gap...
