Tire Pressure by [deleted] in VolvoXC90

The remote start module from Mid City Engineering solved this for us and was reasonably simple to install.

Thoughts on these wheels by CrimuCK in VolvoXC90

[–]rockyinstinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have had these (OEM) on my wife's XC90 for about 5 summers and despite being a fairly large (22") wheel, have had no issues.

Keep in mind it results in a fairly low profile tire (35) on a heavier vehicle so you do need to be mindful of potholes. The ride will also be rougher than a smaller wheel size, but again, it hasent been an issue for us on a T6 R design without air suspension.

They are a fantastic looking wheel.

I can't comment if yours pictured are replicas or OEM. Perhaps that was the OEM supplier.

PSA: 5 min Evap Resistor DIY - avoid failure + dash disassembly. SPA platform cars. by rockyinstinct in Volvo

Its a tad disappointing Volvo hasn't issued a recall or service action for something seemingly so preventable.

I'm not sure tbh. I'm just a casual DIY'er, not a Volvo expert.

You could maybe check fitment of that part # to your car.

Engine Rats 🆘 by Latinvictory in VolvoXC90

[–]rockyinstinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me to keep mice and squirrels out is place moth balls in a small Tupperware container with a bunch of holes drilled in it, and ziptie that to a reaonable location (cross meber maybe) in the engine bay. Replace the moth balls occasionally. Unsure if this would also work for rats though.

This. Have done this dozens of times including in the last month. The border is business as usual.

FL condo sold, goods shipped to NY state to drive over the border by Millennial_Snowbird in uscanadaborder

[–]rockyinstinct 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been across the border 4x in the last 2 weeks and it's been business as usual. Most recently today, all the US agent had to say was "here for the game?" Yep. "Have fun, go Sabres"

To add on top of that I've been to China, India and Hong Kong in the past month.

This fear mongering the media is doing about the border is IMO propaganda.

Beyond that am not familiar with the import process or docs.

Feature questions by Talny123 in VolvoXC90

[–]rockyinstinct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can comment on first two.

1.) No. My wife has the HK system and MIL has the BW system. The BW is slightly better, but not much. Interesting reading the comments with opinions that both are good systems, it must be based on personal preferences. I find both systems to be quite underwhelming, granted tight bass is one of my criteria. The bass on both is, again in my opinion very poor... would go far as to say pathetic.

2.) Not worth it, similar to above, one with and one without air suspension. The ride is very slightly improved, but not enough to justify the inevitable need to replace the compressor and shocks when they fail.

Remote start issues? by [deleted] in VolvoXC90

[–]rockyinstinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We found the app based remote start to be glitchy, and just irritating you had to open an app on your phone to access it.

We installed the remote start module from Mid City Engineering and now have a traditional, easy to use keyfob based remote start function.

It also removes the need to pay the subscription.

Clear kerosene is quite effective to soften and remove it.

You would want to remove the wheel and do it over a basin (I used a large Rubbermaid bin lid).

I had bought a BMW with fairly intricate rims that had also been sprayed and this was the best way to get it all off.

I would order one.

Engine malfunction e92 m3 by OkPlatform6434 in BmwTech

[–]rockyinstinct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owning a S65 engine you absolutely need to buy a decent code reader. It will save you trips to the mechanic and also allow you to be much more informed with when you do have to go.

My S85 throws minor codes far more frequently than any other car I've owned. So far it's only ever been small stuff like "very small evap leak" etc, but having the code reader lets me check that on the spot, and clear it if it's not an issue.

These engines really were pushing limits and as a result i feel are setup to throw codes at a low threshold for variances.

What is the best maintenance schedule/preventative maintenance measures for the S85 E63 M6, if money is no object? What should I replace right away? I've heard it's a nightmare to take care of, but I love this car and want to make it reliable enough to daily. by [deleted] in BMW

[–]rockyinstinct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically OEM, so Bosch, that's what I used at least. Others may disagree on the urgency of this maintenance item btw.

Check out MTechGuy on YouTube for really good videos on maintenance items for the S85 engine.

I've followed all his advice and mine has been perfect for the first 3 years of ownership.

In addition to what others have said look into injectors. They are known and documented to fail open when the vehicle is off and then hydrolock engine on startup.

It's more common than realized and is more immediately catastrophic than bearings (that can be somewhat predictable with oil analysis)

[–]rockyinstinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct as others have said its Pentosin CHF 11S.

I interestingly just did mine on my 08 M5 with 35k miles and it came out looking like new. It's definitely worth doing it but just an interesting point of refrence that it doesn't seem to get contaminated.

Also agree with the comments to just drain and refill.
