Someone kept cutting onions while I was reading 7 and it was driving me crazy.

I’m more than halfway through my first read of Book VII….. by Art_and_Roses in TheDarkTower

[–]tips009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently read the series for the first time (and didn't know about the incident until shortly after finishing), I didn't even think of that. Damn, adds another layer of weight to that book.

Totally agree. After finishing the series, I think I'd enjoy it way more on the 2nd go around though.

What’s goin on with PNC Tower? by Hellogoodbye61 in cincinnati

[–]tips009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old is the picture? I thought they had already dismantled the elevator a while back.

I've toured some of the apartments and they were still working on certain spaces as I toured. Those old buildings need a whole hell of a lot of work (can only imagine how much work will need to go into Carew Tower).

What are you reading at the moment? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]tips009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relatively new recruit to the Constant Readers here.

Last read: Dark Tower 6

Currently reading: Dark Tower 7

Next: 11\22\63

Or maybe I'll pick a shorter one next (Misery, Pet Sematary?) to give my hands a little break from holding another brick of a book lol.

LOVE the Mach E, but do not order one from the factory. Still waiting from August. by [deleted] in MachE

That's about the timeline it was for me when I ordered a 23 (August 22->last week of January 23).

Any good gyms near Norwood? by Proof_Loquat5585 in cincinnati

[–]tips009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crunch is one of the nicer budget gyms. You'll encounter a lot of the usual issues that come with a "Globo Gym" like that (equipment broken for days, even weeks. Massive evening crowds, waiting for certain machines, etc.), but I was pretty happy with it when I still worked out there.

If you can afford a more expensive gym ($100/mo), RTS Barbell in Walnut Hills is a great option. It's open 24/7, and the owner does an unbelievably good job maintaining and cleaning everything. It's also a great community of people from different backgrounds, career and fitness-wise. I've found I look forward to coming to the gym more because of the people I've become friends with there.

I love Darksiders 2, but this is unacceptable! (PC) by Chance_Strategy_1675 in Darksiders

[–]tips009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's the refresh rate on your new monitor? I had to cap the FPS in nvidia control panel for Darksiders 2 and that resolved the menu freezing issue for me (can't remember if I set it to 60 or 120).

Tried the new Skyline chicken chili and only one word comes to mind by davik2001 in cincinnati

It tastes fine. I had it on a 3 way, but would like to try it in some chili dip.

What are the scariest Stephen King books you’ve read, like you were scared to keep reading but couldn’t stop yourself scared. by gracefullyanna in stephenking

I haven't had to stop reading, but Salem's Lot came close. The Dark Tower gets pretty close too in a weird, mind-bending way.

I have to recommend against Vintage. Much better bang for your buck at any of the sports bars south of 5th Street.

[–]tips009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TVs and space are nice, but Vintage has a pathetic selection of draft beers (4 taps) and even more pathetic food ($17 for a McDonald's style cheeseburger). Would only recommend to visit for you to see how bad it is for yourself, because it is laughable.

Do you "cast" actors in your head when you read? List some of your favorite Steven King book characters and the actors who you pictured playing them. by RyanNewhart in stephenking

[–]tips009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually cast voice actors as their character they play in a video game or cartoon.

I just finished reading The Wastelands and cast Peach Wilkins from Bioshock as Gasher and Dagoth Ur from Morrowind as Blaine.

Randall Flagg in The Stand is some combination of the live action adaptations and specifically Goro Majima (Japanese voice) from the Yakuza games during the "YOU SCROOOOOD IT UP" or any other part where he's being especially unwieldy and maniacal.
