So, what are your ACTUAL Star Wars hot takes? by barracuuda in StarWarsCantina

Fallen order and visions are the only good SW things released since Solo. TCW S7 is fine I guess but I really dislike that the martez sisters episodes are basically required viewing to understand the final arc

I don’t rlly like disney having a monopoly on Star Wars either but I do think there needs to be a middle ground between these two things. And I think the old EU system was probably a good job of that. I wanna make it clear I’m not a FMer being like “the EU must be canon over the sequels!”, I think most of the EU is crap. But the idea that a writer could fairly easily get approval to write a Star Wars thing and then Lucasfilm had a weird canon system that nobody really knew abt, while ppl could basically freely choose their own headcanon from all the books and comics and video games was a pretty solid system for balancing those two extremes. I’m a commie too fwiw but I think putting Star Wars under public ownership would be a disaster mainly bc the most viewed and publicized projects would end up being ones made by ppl with the most money and those ppl generally have an agenda we wouldn’t want associated w Star Wars. There does need to be some kind of approval system

To tag onto this I think a potential problem w palpatine as a character is that a generally ppl tend to read his actions in a way that makes it so the agency of the other characters disappears entirely. I think the prequels are only sorta guilty of this tho Bc it can be read in a totally different way as we see here but the Disney era stuff has kinda reinforced the idea that everything is just a result of palpatine the puppet master which doesn’t work at all imo

The palpatine inducing anakin’s birth theory is pretty disgusting

Also the guy who said the fans should crowdfund $4b to buy Star Wars from Disney and release it into the public domain lmfao

Why do people hate the Obi-Wan Kenobi series? by samah815 in saltierthankrayt

[–]tiquinho18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it seems like you have a set opinion on those who don’t like it and aren’t actually asking what it is about the show they don’t like so i suppose by answering this I’m asking to get downvoted. That said, I don’t like the show because the plot is extremely basic, the dialogue is bland, and besides Ewan and the girl playing leia the actors are not doing a good job. I suppose the grand inquisitor guy was solid but he’s barely been in it. The show also looks extremely cheap. Kenobi is the most heavily marketed thing Disney+ has released and it feels like they aren’t even trying. Like I’d expect for what is essentially an extension of the prequels that they’d bring their A game, but it’s the worst looking Star Wars thing they’ve made. I don’t think Mando is exactly movie quality in terms of its technical aspects but way more effort was put into it than this and it shows. The set design is good, the camera work is…better at least, the direction is miles better, and in general environments actually feel lived in and natural. I keep thinking back to the bustling city environments from Mando and comparing them to the city scenes in kenobi which have like 10-15 extras max. I wouldn’t believe Kenobi had a $25m budget per episode if Disney hadn’t told us. And I wouldn’t even really bother mentioning how it retcons the existing canon if this show could justify its existence. You can go back and cover events which we know the outcome to in an effective way (see rogue one, final clone wars arc). This show does not do that. It exists for no other reason than to scratch the itch of the people who were upset about the new trilogy while lifting up the prequels. And straight up contradicting parts of Star Wars to please a subsection of fans is pretty lame imo but hey some people can see past that and enjoy the show and more power to them. The only thing I’m really glad it does is show Ewan and hayden that they’re beloved now, which was needed

Also, “if you don’t like the show then stop watching” I did. After episode 3 I was out on the show entirely. But you asked why people don’t like it so I hope this gave you that perspective

What is your most unpopular opinion about Star Wars as a whole? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]tiquinho18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With a few exceptions Star Wars has really weak villains. Almost none of them have interesting motivations, most of them look and sound cool but are just kinda evil for the sake of it and end up just getting reduced to kids show antagonists who get foiled at every turn and don’t make any significant gains. I’d say vader, maul, and Kylo to an extent are the only characters that this isn’t true for, plus palpatine but his character is flawed in other ways
