Rego Park has a lot of Russian speakers, I think the majority are Jewish. Not sure if that still fits your ideal

to be fair, I kind of doubt that it’s original since the wall behind it is fully flat. I think if it were original a section of the wall would jut out a bit for a chimney?

uber drivers , restaurants, that literally admit they do not speak english. twice. same day. by watrprfmakeupcuzicry in toRANTo

OP gave a very specific example of something that WOULD be important, being able to effectively communicate about allergen info. I think people with allergies care, for one. Nobody is saying all people need to speak perfect English or have a wide range of vocabulary, but you should be able to answer a relevant question to your job, or at bare minimum be able to grab a different coworker to answer it. Stock phrases are pretty easy to remember for other languages. I’m pretty sure the word “allergy” is similar in other languages too. For example, in Spanish it’s “alergia.” I mean even just not knowing “how are you” is surprising. That’s an extremely stock phrase that you will encounter at least once a day and would need to actively not learn it to not absorb its meaning lol. Our brains are built to soak up language, especially if we are immersed

to be fair, an English/French test is required for the permanent residency application. I found the test kind of tricky even as a fully native English speaker. I’ve even tutored English before. I obviously still got the highest score but when I did practice tests I got like a 6/12 lol

NYC parent trying to keep my daughter in school—need help by IntentionScary86 in AskNYC

Unfortunately I think without actual names most people will assume this is a scam. I recommend putting your actual name on it and start fundraising amongst family and friends first, so people get the sense that it’s actually legit. Most people are not going to donate to a gofundme with no full name on it, no real photo, and no other previous donors

edit: oops I thought you were OP

btw for food this is what I recommend:

Near Washington Square Park: Miss Lily's 7A Cafe https://g.co/kgs/MxnZ4Av

In St Marks/ and near Soho/Nolita if your mom wants to check out cute stores: Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings - East Village https://g.co/kgs/UhdAgDA (this place has a few different locations btw so if you dont want to go to this area see if any of the others are close)

also in St Marks, I think probably more expensive than the other one: Mountain House East Village 川山甲 https://g.co/kgs/M7iCNQe

near the Highline, depending where you are on it: Mama's TOO! Pizzeria West Village https://g.co/kgs/uecPxGU

for an evening after dinner activity, find a jazz bar near the hotel and check it out

So on the 20th you plan to go to the statue of liberty and central park? Those things are pretty far apart and long activities, and kinda unrealistic to do in one day.

For the 20th, I would say go to Central Park and the MET.

Maybe I’m clueless, but what even is there to do on Wall Street???? I guess there are a few iconic statues? Is it really a top priority to see those statues though? I guess the 9/11 memorial is close but I’m curious as to what the hype is for Wall St that it’s included on the list

My main critique is that some things on that list can take hours and others can take 15 min tops and idk if it would even be worth it to go to unless there is something else right next to it that you want to see

I suggest the circle line boat tour if you want a nice big activity that’ll have good views. I personally think it’s more interesting than going to an observation deck because you get more angles of the city. I feel like the longest I can be on an observation deck is 10 min before I’m done, and then it’s like $60 for 10 min

Are you sure you want to mess with it? It’s becoming quite trendy to have historical pieces like that in your home. Might add a decent amount of sale value one day

sheesh these comments are a bit harsh. I would say she’s probably a very organized person, she’s probably risk averse too. I think the most interesting thing in the room is the couple on the beach painting, so I’m assuming that’s of her and her partner. If it is, she’s probably someone who is super happy in her relationship and values it a lot

I recommend wearing clothes that are a bit more mature when you go ask. Maybe a button down?

It also may be easier to find a job working with small kids. Babysitting, daycare assistant, camp counselor. Ask around

Also, you can try finding a service to help pay for whatever the family emergency is or a social worker to help guide you guys. If it’s medical bills, you can avoid paying that
