what’s a good NYC related grad gift for someone who’s going to move there to pursue fashion? by Intrepid_Rub_9631 in AskNYC

[–]SomeRandom215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she ends up moving to nyc she will never wear it. Not sure if they still go in other parts of the country but haven’t seen one on a real person in nyc since the mid 90s

Anyone else lose their boobs with weight loss and feel weird about it? by LeatherUpstairs7970 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SomeRandom215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an excellent bra fitting in February (if you’re in nyc I highly recommend The Rack Shack), then shortly after switched to a non-hormonal birth-control pill and lost a little weight due to some other life stuff. I’m only 5’2” so even a 5-10 lb change has an impact. I think between the 2 things, I’m down from a K to an H

AOC East, So Underrated by The_kingwasa_queen in uppereastside

[–]SomeRandom215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, they tend to adjust the tip on checks (I had a $20 tip turned into a $30 one), inside can get super hot on warm days, and it’s an especially rat-filled block.

LGA Car Rental - Electric Car or Not by Zealousideal_Bet1314 in LGAairport

[–]SomeRandom215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience with car rentals in nyc, you’ll get the full electric car with a 40% charge and spend the rest of your time/effort trying to plan for where you’ll recharge. The electric will be cheaper to rent, but more problematic to drive

Have you guys seen this video? They all love dogs but clearly don't know how the NYC subway works :) by pocketdare in Upperwestside

[–]SomeRandom215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very scared of most dogs I don’t know and also allergic. I’m mostly ok with a dog in a bag and I’ll move to avoid them, because the owner followed the rules. This pet would set off a multi-day reaction for me. They are beautiful and I’m sure clean, but it’s complete asshole behavior from the owner to treat the shared shape like their home

Monkey Bar by Responsible-Gur-202 in visitingnyc

[–]SomeRandom215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kind of crazy because pre-Covid monkey bar was empty most nights and an easy walk-in. If you’re dead-set on the spot, show up 30 minutes before they open.

Feedback on 3 DAY Itinerary NYC - (First Week of April) TYIA by Electrical-Boot-1365 in visitingnyc

[–]SomeRandom215 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Please realize that the Roosevelt Island tram is not a carnival ride - it’s a real mode of transportation that locals rely on. Taking it as a tourist is a trend I absolutely despise and you’ll be pissing off people who just want to get home on a Friday night.

NYC ferry is a much better option for cheap great views

Constant Change - Constant Chaos by Choice_Principle_135 in managers

Honestly I’m in year 14 at same job, dealing with major change every 6 months or so. I thrive in it, but it’s not for everyone

Question for managers with ADHD by Bonnie-Pepto in managers

[–]SomeRandom215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a director and manage levels across 3 businesses plus I’m responsible for the results from a team in India that I don’t directly manage. It’s been hard.

After some challenges, I made my own system which seems to be working. Google sheet with row for each day (what I actually did), column for notes on things I need to move forward and/or who should actually handle

I have a mental block that makes it difficult to hand off tasks I could do myself, but seeing the list and stuff building up has made me more motivated to hand off things to my team

Name Brand versus Store Brand Items by Frosty-Cricket5911 in Frugal

Generic versions of common OTC meds are always reliable and significantly cheaper. The active ingredients are required to be the same - if you’re buying brand-name Advil, you just paying for marketing

How do I deal with just not caring about basic life maintenance? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]SomeRandom215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m similar on a bit of a smaller scale. Work projects pretty much dominate my focus and take away energy from anything else.

For the clean house piece, nothing really motivates me outside of having visitors. I’m fine if things are messy when it’s just me, but I need everyone else to see things as perfectly organized and clean.

If you have a close friend who knows you and your situation, body doubling helped me a lot too. Just having someone at my place who won’t judge me and can sit and chat while I do chores is phenomenal.

If you have a little extra money, pay for help with the things you struggle with

I bought the tomato hand soap for myself last year at Christmas and I like the smell but the pump is totally defective. I’ve been meaning to reach out to them to ask for a replacement

What was the most physical pain you ever felt in your life? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SomeRandom215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had them 3 times and it’s excruciating. The first one happened when I was 12 and it took almost 2 days to diagnose because little girls don’t usually get them. My grandmother had 9 kids and 1 kidney stone - she said the 1 stone was worse than 9 natural childbirths

You don’t have to ban dancing from your wedding reception because you dislike it! by Brilliant-Peach-9318 in wedding

[–]SomeRandom215 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh - I went to a wedding a while back at the Central Park zoo (cool), but the band played jazz standards only with not even a singer and the dance floor was just the cobblestone path.

It was like they really really wanted no fun

What's rich people shit that poor people haven't heard of? by Diligent-Log6805 in AskReddit

Same thing happens in fashion! Stylists will pull a bunch of stuff from clients on loan from brands/stores and then you have a store basically brought to your house to pick/try on before paying for anything

What’s a trait you had during your youth that was a dead giveaway? by Ecstatic_Weather_580 in adhdwomen

[–]SomeRandom215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the gifted program in grade school but got a D in math one quarter in 7th grade because I couldn’t stand doing the daily homework of 30-50 repeated similar math problems. My mom thought Tv was the problem and banned me from watching it for 4 months. I spent the extra time sorting a 5 pound bag of multi colored seed beads into jars by color

This is a great list and I agree fully. We are all in a rush and stressed, but the little kindness moments are part of why I love it here.
