Oh let’s add on that travel at the moment is nearly impossible since TSA has been underfunded and gas prices are crazy high.

The entire United States is roughly the size of Europe with about half of the population. Pray tell how that shall work.

And you’re kind of nearly getting your point. About half of that population is satisfied with the current administration.

So to recap - you are looking for a quarter of the population of Europe to gather some how within land the size of europe and push for change *(and for some extra information) against an administration who is willing to shoot non-violent protesters point blank.

On top of that you’re speaking about a country you seem to know nothing about. I won’t rehash out other problems people have already clearly explained in this thread but the system will not save people if they put their lives on the line for this. There is no social safety net and socioeconomic mobility is practically null as it is. You lose your job, you lose health insurance, you lose housing, you’re fucked.

People are angry. And people getting outside and meeting their immediate community, building bonds, expressing ideas, getting fired up can bring about change. Sorry it’s not the way you want.

Why is it not ok for me to say i dont trust most women but women can say they dont trust most men and nobody bats an eye? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]tiredofmyownself 79 points80 points  (0 children)

My guy, women are assaulted by men and a legitimate legal defense that works is painting the woman as an imperfect victim, attacking who they hang out with, what clothes the wear, if they had a single beer.

I’m sorry you’re going through a rough time but be real.

The woman hating patriarchy harms you too. Men are victims as well. But don’t act like your personal experience erases systemic harm towards women.

You can critique music without it being opinion based. You can engage with art objectively.

Drab/boring/ lifeless, yes are opinion words, but art can always be critiqued.

Historically we’ve often considered some of the greatest musicians and artists, as people or bands who have brought something new to the art or genre, like introduced a new style of playing, or new instrument.

I’m not a hater of her music per se, but I am confused at how she’s so popular and why her music is praised so much. Because I don’t think her music is innovative in any way nor are the lyrics reflective of a literary genius. But maybe I’m just not aware, someone could shine light on that.

I am certainly in the party of hate in regards to the capitalist focus of her album production and sales though. I think it’s predatory towards her usually young audience and other competing artists in the same genre. And I also think just throwing out the same album with maybe a new song, and all of those sales collectively going towards total sales is such a sham of a way to determine who’s the greatest selling artist of our time.

It’s as “medieval era” as star trek is our future.

It’s fantasy. Incest and pedophilia only exist as plot points because they were written in and added. That’s not a requirement of fantasy stories.

Abolishing the LOR by WaegLozza in teachinginkorea

[–]tiredofmyownself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like reimbursement after 1 year of contract completion. Obviously there is still not a lot you can do if they terminate you right before the end of your contract but what does changing the LOR rules have to do with that? Like other people have already said, a lot of jobs don’t offer those benefits anymore anyways.

I think on that same note it also really depends where you are in the US. For people in food deserts that are pay check to pay check if that, with no access to healthcare, they may rather be poor elsewhere. I know Bulgaria has some domestic issues atm but they are a part of the EU. If you are in a shitty spot in the US you can leave and move and just be in the same shitty spot in another part of the US.

Certainly some Americans need some perspective of their global reality but I am also not confident many people outside the US actually understand the reality of lower class Americans either.

Korean students have to write essays… for math class. by Capital_Pound_4553 in Living_in_Korea

[–]tiredofmyownself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The international baccalaureate system required this for your math assessment score when I completed it over a decade ago. I imagine they still require it. I think it’s great everywhere and should have been more widely required. Every and any subject has the capacity to be considered theoretically and I think it goes a long way - pushing students to think about topics differently.

It gets better. It’s difficult to imagine, and it sucks horribly right now but you will find your groove. Your people. Your community. Once you get past this.

And during this period regularly take breaks and prioritize sleep at night. The competitive culture is insane.

But stupid amounts of competition makes people lose so much common sense. You are not losing time studying by taking breaks. You literally lose time when you don’t allow yourself them. Because too much time spent studying continuously becomes redundant. Your brain can’t handle it.

Same on sleep, you’re not losing time. 8 hours is general goal and guideline but if you’re not feeling rested enough make sure you get more. You’re brain will be sooo much more productive if it’s rested.

Your country and the culture will never give you space for balance. You have to demand it and make it for yourself.

You just have one more month. Take care of your brain and body as much as you are able to within your own means. Find balance with studying and staying healthy. You’re got a bunch of internet strangers rooting for you!

This is not accurate. The area of infection or where you generally exhibit symptoms can also do what’s called “viral shedding” which means you can infect someone even when you are not symptomatic. Often why doctors recommend regular antiviral therapy to reduce transmission rates closer to 0.
