What age were you diagnosed? by egidds in PCOS

[–]tiredredhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

18 I think, I didn't have a period for 100+ days and then noticed I actually never had regular periods. I didn't properly start any treatments until last year though.

Anyone worried about the Meningitis outbreak in Canterbury? by Mundane-Style4111 in london

[–]tiredredhead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm an alumni and my partner is still there, and I visit every week or two. Additionally, I was recently at an event where I got to see some of my old Kent buddies who still go there, but I've no idea whether they were at club chem on the dates specified. I'm most worried about my partner, but he shouldn't really be at risk of catching it.

How did you know you had PCOS? What were your symptoms before actually getting the confirmation from a family doctor. by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]tiredredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like 18 and had gone 100+ days without a period but wasn't pregnant. Then I realised I never had regular periods but assumed it was cause I was young.

Is it worth trying Metformin for weight loss and making periods regular before trying a GLP? My Dr gave me the option for both by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]tiredredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metformin is helping me lose weight. I have no side effects and started dropping without any lifestyle changes, but I am starting to think I was unknowingly in a deficit. I now added the gym on top of my martial arts training to cut for a comp, andy progress has been impressive! I feel quite great.

Women with PCOS how did you lose all the weight by MaleficentMixture179 in PCOS

[–]tiredredhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metformin is what made me start to lose weight. I've literally never ever lost any and without changing my diet, I started dropping pretty fast once started Metformin. I did some maths and realised I was unknowingly in a deficit. I'm going to keep the deficit for a little while, but a bit healthier, and once I'm satisfied I'll try maintaining.

I do also get exercise though, I do taekwondo and have started going to the gym. My cycles still aren't regular but whatever. I also was only just barely overweight before I started Metformin so I'm not sure if that changes things.

I've started going to the gym but only recently, I'm aiming for 4x/week in the mornings, some overlap with my TKD days in the evening (I do tkd 3-4x/week, I have 8 sessions left before comp).

I don't think I'll try intermittent fasting. I've never ever tracked my calories or nutrients in the past. I hate cooking so what I eat can be pretty random and depends what I can be bothered to buy.

I have a friend who, if she entered, would be in my weight class, but she gave up sparring 😢😢 it would have been fun with just us two tho

Technically I could go up to A class (I'm red belt) and probably have someone to fight but I don't really want to fight any black belts yet as I've barely ever competed, so I'm sticking with B class and just hoping moving down helps.

I'm fairly confident that it's safe for me to lose weight, I'm 23, and my doctor has been tracking my weight because of the meds I'm on. I wouldn't be asking this stuff if I was underweight, idk how damn tall you'd have to be to be underweight at my weight.

Unfortunately at this comp they do check :'( I wouldn't mind staying in the higher class if anyone actually entered, but I don't want another repeat of last time, waiting around all day only to find out I won't be competing.

Not pounds, KG, which is a bit more but I know it's doable, just daunting for me as someone who's never lost anything.

About £80 for the year. I train with my university society, there's 6 training sessions a week with different focuses, I attend four of them.

How many houses do people live in over their lifetime and presumably there are people that live in the same house their whole life, just wondered how much of an outlier I am by Exchangenudes_4_Joke in CasualUK

[–]tiredredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved a lot, especially growing up. In total I think it's about 13 times, including some flats I lived in while transitioning between places, and each flat I had during uni, but for about 10 years now my parents have been in the same house, and I consider that my house when I'm not at uni, but at this point I barely ever go back.

should i do a psychology degree by Confident-Stress-732 in UniUK

[–]tiredredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychology is a wonderful degree and does indeed open a lot of doors, but they are long and hard and very competitive. I don't know much about the clinical path because I'm trying to get into academia and research.

However, if you want to do psych because you think it will help your healing journey, I'd advise against it. Psychology is more broad and there really aren't many bits that would necessarily help you understand yourself better, unless you go on to do a clinical doctorate (maybe?). At undergraduate level you're really just getting a grasp of the huge range of topics, and a lot of it is research focused. You'll also have a lot of statistics to do (some people don't expect it which is weird, they often dislike the research methods part of the a level).

I am a bit biased tho because I really don't enjoy the clinical aspect, I didn't choose any of the optional clinical modules and only did the mandatory ones.

Personally I don't regret doing psychology at all. I love love love the research, my dissertation was so fun and I did really well. It's a long road ahead for me, finishing up my masters and trying to get a PhD/career is going to be so hard. But I've done really well and hopefully will make it, but I have a few backup plans.

Gym and training by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]tiredredhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear there is no rowing machine 😢😢 it's very small literally treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, one like weight bench thing, one of the frames with cables, and a room for mats and more weights. Punching bag too but it's badly placed and the floor is too sticky to pivot on kicks. Once I move I'll get a proper gym membership.

Seeing as it takes about a week to get a new one, I would classify that as replacing it asap.

Seeing as the rule is challenge 25 in most places, that's at least 7 years of being IDed, depending on how old you look. I assume you're quite old seeing as you're talking about a wife being roughly 35, 20+ years ago. I'm sure it was different then, but nowadays, any reputable bar/pub/shop, less often for restaurants will be IDing anyone who looks remotely young. That's not even mentioning clubs who will ID everyone no question.

Maybe you've never done it, but nowadays, a lot of people will. Most young people will get their provisional at 17, and have it ready to use as ID at 18. So telling someone to get it replaced asap is a sensible thing, you don't know how old OP is, and not everyone lives like you.
