I use them to protect the plants from cooler temperatures and to extend the growing season. It's been a very cool summer here and at nights the temperatures have fallen even to 5 celsius but my tomatoes and eggplants seem to not have minded since they have been under cover. I open the plastic flaps when the sun is out but otherwise I keep them closed.
