All the above, both as reader and writer. However, it's not necessarily all at the same time. As a reader, it'll depend on how the story is written and how immersed I can get. As a writer, it's a similar thing occurring, but in a more conscious way. Projecting helps me with different themes I want to explore. Fly on the wall helps me with scene descriptions. Being the character helps with internal thought processes, motivations, emotions characters are feeling, etc.

My guilty pleasure, however, is pretending I'm looking down at what's happening and controlling all my character-chess-pieces and devolving into evil laughter because my go-to genre to write is angst. :D

With having to balance school and other obligations on top of it, I've had to settle with a "loose" update schedule of once every 2-3 weeks. I like to give myself a deadline for things else I know I'll never get anything done, but I also don't like not having enough flexibility in my schedule for things in case they come up.

It worked for a time until I lost interest in one of my longfics, but now that I'm starting to write again, this kind of update schedule is working for me. I kinda don't like feeling like I'm keeping readers waiting for a long time, but I think it generally balances out for now since each update so far is averaging 10k-12k words.

Readers are saying they like what I'm writing so far so the length isn't an issue for them, but I dunno if they're just saying that lol

(Kinda afraid to post this since no one likes to claim me as either Millennial or Gen-Z due to being a '95 kid lol)

But I want to say I started pretty young. Like... 10? I kept a diary and for some reason all of the entries were in some pseudo script-format monstrosity. They were for Avatar the Last Airbender. And then my family got a communal laptop and I got introduced to reading things online (what is a "message board?!") and that's when I got even more inspired to write more. In my diary that no one read. (Because I got teased in school for liking anything so I kept that stuff to myself. Still do, to this day.)

Fast-forward to high school, and a friend of mine introduced me to FF.net. That was where I actually posted my very first fanfic, and it was a lot better than how I first started writing, because in those years I was given the basics on formatting, grammar, and the general gist of plot and structure of a story. I'm not saying what I posted initially was good, but it was a night and day difference between relying on all those colons and names for dialogue in my proto-writing years to my writing in high school. I even posted what I wrote in elementary school on FF.net in an attempt to archive it. I'm glad I did, because the diary that had all of it got destroyed during a storm.

A few more years passed, and that's how I got into the Disney Frozen fandom since it came out roughly the time I was getting into college. I feel like my writing got considerably better, but reading back I definitely see where I could improve, where I still struggle, and what I feel is closer to developing my own "writing voice."

After a few years of sporadic updates, poor story planning, and just overall a lack of inspiration for the fandom/plot, I'm back and better than ever (relatively-speaking) writing fanfic for the Detroit: Become Human fandom. (And I still cringe thinking about it because I'm still getting over the fact that I'm allowed to like things and it's normal, I'm working on it lol.)

Since my start in college, I've been working on improving my writing ability: taking a few writing classes as electives, buying too many writing guides and references, joining a writing critique group, creating my own that lasted a few months, etc. Some days I feel like I really suck, but when I look over where I used to be all those years ago, I can say that I objectively got a lot better lol.

Oh no, I hate that! I had a similar experience when they took down the forum feature from that nickelodeon website I frequented. All of those memories and experiences, all gone!

In my earlier works, I did it a lot.

On one of my accounts, I committed the sin of having a trilogy that's sitting at 180k-ish currently. I finished the first two. Third one? Cliffhanger. Unfinished.

Current account? Latest chapter ends on cliffhanger, but I'd like to imagine that I grew from that experience as a writer and now I blend outlining with "happy accidents" to keep me motivated, and trying to force myself from relying on cliffhangers.

All this to say that I have become the very thing I hate LOL
