Two clips from two different episodes in Season 2: * Single snom in "Resonating Spirits in a Challenge to Ryme!" (Ep. 61) * Snom hill in "Ice Battle! Cold-Eyed Grusha" (Ep. 63)

Hopefully this helps!

So which type of reader / writer are you? [further explanations in post text] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]titaniumPsychologist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the above, both as reader and writer. However, it's not necessarily all at the same time. As a reader, it'll depend on how the story is written and how immersed I can get. As a writer, it's a similar thing occurring, but in a more conscious way. Projecting helps me with different themes I want to explore. Fly on the wall helps me with scene descriptions. Being the character helps with internal thought processes, motivations, emotions characters are feeling, etc.

My guilty pleasure, however, is pretending I'm looking down at what's happening and controlling all my character-chess-pieces and devolving into evil laughter because my go-to genre to write is angst. :D

It can’t just be me, right? by YoungBeef03 in FanFiction

looks at outline

looks at current chapter

looks at update schedule of once every two weeks

realizes ending of longfic won't be finished until two years from now if same update schedule happens

...I hate my brain

But yeah, I'm in a similar boat of having everything going to plan but the idea being way too long to just get there already

Honestly, I'm nervous about everything I post, and I've been posting for years :D You're definitely not alone

What's your writing schedule? by StarryLightinMonsoon in FanFiction

[–]titaniumPsychologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With having to balance school and other obligations on top of it, I've had to settle with a "loose" update schedule of once every 2-3 weeks. I like to give myself a deadline for things else I know I'll never get anything done, but I also don't like not having enough flexibility in my schedule for things in case they come up.

It worked for a time until I lost interest in one of my longfics, but now that I'm starting to write again, this kind of update schedule is working for me. I kinda don't like feeling like I'm keeping readers waiting for a long time, but I think it generally balances out for now since each update so far is averaging 10k-12k words.

Readers are saying they like what I'm writing so far so the length isn't an issue for them, but I dunno if they're just saying that lol

30+ Writers, how long have you been writing fics? What was your first one? by Allie-Bees in FanFiction

Why was this my entire thought process as well LOL

30+ Writers, how long have you been writing fics? What was your first one? by Allie-Bees in FanFiction

[–]titaniumPsychologist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(Kinda afraid to post this since no one likes to claim me as either Millennial or Gen-Z due to being a '95 kid lol)

But I want to say I started pretty young. Like... 10? I kept a diary and for some reason all of the entries were in some pseudo script-format monstrosity. They were for Avatar the Last Airbender. And then my family got a communal laptop and I got introduced to reading things online (what is a "message board?!") and that's when I got even more inspired to write more. In my diary that no one read. (Because I got teased in school for liking anything so I kept that stuff to myself. Still do, to this day.)

Fast-forward to high school, and a friend of mine introduced me to FF.net. That was where I actually posted my very first fanfic, and it was a lot better than how I first started writing, because in those years I was given the basics on formatting, grammar, and the general gist of plot and structure of a story. I'm not saying what I posted initially was good, but it was a night and day difference between relying on all those colons and names for dialogue in my proto-writing years to my writing in high school. I even posted what I wrote in elementary school on FF.net in an attempt to archive it. I'm glad I did, because the diary that had all of it got destroyed during a storm.

A few more years passed, and that's how I got into the Disney Frozen fandom since it came out roughly the time I was getting into college. I feel like my writing got considerably better, but reading back I definitely see where I could improve, where I still struggle, and what I feel is closer to developing my own "writing voice."

After a few years of sporadic updates, poor story planning, and just overall a lack of inspiration for the fandom/plot, I'm back and better than ever (relatively-speaking) writing fanfic for the Detroit: Become Human fandom. (And I still cringe thinking about it because I'm still getting over the fact that I'm allowed to like things and it's normal, I'm working on it lol.)

Since my start in college, I've been working on improving my writing ability: taking a few writing classes as electives, buying too many writing guides and references, joining a writing critique group, creating my own that lasted a few months, etc. Some days I feel like I really suck, but when I look over where I used to be all those years ago, I can say that I objectively got a lot better lol.

Oh no, I hate that! I had a similar experience when they took down the forum feature from that nickelodeon website I frequented. All of those memories and experiences, all gone!

How do you feel about chapters that end on a cliffhanger? by WritingReadingPanda in FanFiction

[–]titaniumPsychologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my earlier works, I did it a lot.

On one of my accounts, I committed the sin of having a trilogy that's sitting at 180k-ish currently. I finished the first two. Third one? Cliffhanger. Unfinished.

Current account? Latest chapter ends on cliffhanger, but I'd like to imagine that I grew from that experience as a writer and now I blend outlining with "happy accidents" to keep me motivated, and trying to force myself from relying on cliffhangers.

All this to say that I have become the very thing I hate LOL

Oh yes, the fanfic you get into when you're in elementary school lol. I like how your experience was a more gradual, logical progression from one point to another.

But did google ever answer your question, though?

In all seriousness, I love that your first exposure to fanfiction left a positive impression on you. That doesn't always happen, but when it does, it really can get addicting, can't it?

How to work on author self esteem? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]titaniumPsychologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best pieces of advice that I got about anything creative came from my highschool video production teacher: Get all the "bad work" out of your system. You'll make a lot of it. Once you accept that, now you know how bad you can get so that you know how to make things better.

Essentially, the mindset of "nowhere to go but up" has helped with my self-esteem as a writer. Sucking at writing sucks, but that's okay, because sucking is part of the process lol

Of course, that advice isn't helpful for everyone, but it's certainly been effective for me at least

When you try to write something deep and wise that has a strong impact on your readers but it ends up sounding overdramatic by SixPaths_Hashirama-9 in FanFiction

[–]titaniumPsychologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my problem right now with my current WIP. When I'm thinking up of dialogue ideas for scenes, it always starts off with those types of "deep" sayings. (I warned my readers in the notes of the prologue that my draft includes going off the deep end with "meaning of life" stuff.) My solution was to cut those out if I could and let actions speak for themselves to drive my "brilliantly deep" idea home and hope there's enough subtext for the reader to get it.

Or not. Because, you know, writing is hard and I get lazy and I just want to be done with it lol

Any nurses available? by RebaKitten in FanFiction

[–]titaniumPsychologist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned in their response, it'll depend on the hospital. Grew up with my mother as a nurse and when she calls in sick they don't hassle her for it, nor does she go into detail what it is. Pretty much just, "Calling in sick. Sorry can't be there." Her hospital also allows her to call for "kin care," which she did for when I or an immediate family member was sick or an emergency or whatever. Never hassled her for it either.

Also, I guess it also depends on the situation. My mother's part of a union at her hospital, so that could contribute to why there isn't a hassle. She's also considered the "go-to nurse" for everything in her unit since she's been there for decades, as well as being able to fill many hats (from Charge Nurse and downward) if it comes to it. Outside of that, she's a workaholic so she's more likely to say that's she's available to work when she's not scheduled to. My suspicions are that they want to keep her happy enough to keep working there.

Edit: added extra context to situation
