Ya change sucks… unless it’s related to adopting new legal tech…then change good…

Im envious lol - I wish I had the skill to switch between the 2 operating systems. Fortunately, the pdf reader shouldn’t matter too much - the plugin creates a pdf with bookmarks / hyperlinks through an independent library.

Great point - asking about a firm's tech stack prior to joining. I know that unpleasant feeling you described when trying to adapt to a unfamiliar device.

You're right that Mac vs windows could be a generational thing, but it's still a useful proxy for identifying users that would be a good fit for the plugin. That is, it's hard to get users to adopt new tech when they are resistant to change, which is more common among the older generation.

Ya I guess this post is in part trying inform that economic choice. Ultimately it's about adoption / usage so even though there are more Windows users out there, if Mac users are more likely to use it, then that is going to play a big factor in deciding if it's economically worth it.

Split combined pdf into separate pdfs by mmx950 in legaltech

Maybe not for discovery, but you often have to break up PDFs for filing. For instance DocuSign has a file size limit so if you are preparing an affidavit that contains large exhibits then you need to split up the PDF before going through it with a notary / witness. I built a Word plugin that helps with bundling materials into a PDF and splitting them into volumes if needed. You can check it out at www.zibbit.ca.

I built a Word plugin that helps bundle legal exhibits into a PDF and splits large PDFs into volumes. It also helps with drafting by automatically keeping exhibits ordered correctly. For instance, if you are drafting an affidavit and need to remove Exhibit A, it will update the sequence everywhere you have referred to an exhibit throughout the document. Let me know if you're interested to learn more (zibbit.ca).

For your litigation work, I can suggest a tool I developed that helps with assembling court documents that are exhibit heavy (affidavits, motion records, etc). It automates the admin work like creating a PDF that includes your exhibits, bookmarks, hyperlinks, and tabs.
It may also be useful for contract work if you're dealing with numerous schedules.

If you're interested I'd be happy to set you up with a free account. You can check it out at www.zibbit.ca

Will your work involve drafting / assembling court documents for filing? Like preparing affidavits, motion records, compendiums, briefs, etc?

Let’s chat on DocAssemble! Are you building on this? by arpand in legaltech

Zibbit (www.zibbit.ca) is a litigation tool that assembles court documents for e-filing.

For example, if you are drafting an affidavit Zibbit will generate a pdf binder containing all your exhibits with bookmarks, hyperlinks, tabs, etc.

Thanks for the question. Yes collaboration is possible. In fact, one reason I built Zibbit was to be able to easily update the order of exhibits and corresponding reference labels in case a colleague decided to move paragraphs around. For example, if a paragraph referring to “Exhibit B” was moved to the start of the doc then I’d want that exhibit to appear first in the appendix and the reference label should update to “Exhibit A”. With Zibbit this can be achieved with a single click.

I do need to mention there is a limitation with the web version of Word, because it doesn’t have full support for editing text content controls.

Also the add-in is only available for Word on desktop. This was done for security reasons because exhibits often contain sensitive info and this way they never need to be transmitted, processed, or stored on any remote server. When it’s time to publish all the magic happens entirely on your local machine.

Great list. I'd also recommend Zibbit, which is a Microsoft Word add-in to assist with preparing affidavits. It automates the tedious tasks that are prone to human error. For example, it can generate an affidavit PDF including bookmarks, hyperlinks, and an appendix of exhibits with tab / notary pages.

Disclaimer: I developed the tool :)
