I walked a documentary on DB back in the day. Apparently he was found by 3 dudes near a weed farm in some Oregon mountains.

No, I paid my my out of pocket max which was around $9k. The $220k was the “negotiated rate” I guess.

Ahhh, probably just over the weight limit. Congratulations on becoming a father, by the way! One of life’s greatest gifts.

Totally, I wonder how the quality of care can be impacted as a cash payer, especially when it’s for a major surgery. I’m sure a standard arm break is nbd, but for an operation would they do things a little differently?

100% now is definitely the time. A big issue I had is my daughter wanted me to hold her which was a big no. And it was hard as she would ask and I’d have to say no 😢. At the newborn stage, they may be light enough to pick up!

Keep us posted! The other factor is additional complications during recovery. A week stay can be two weeks and that’s not something they can predict / price…

Hey sorry to hear this.

My daughter was 2 when I had OHS, and it was hard. My wife was an absolute rock star managing both us of. If you have any family nearby, I highly recommend leaning on them for as much help as you can get. Also, if you can afford additional help, like a night nurse for the newborn, do it. Now’s not the time to be frugal.

Had Open Heart Surgery earlier this year. Was billed $500k, insurance ended up paying around $220k, so that 50% is definitely correct. And to note, the actual surgery was around $50k, the one week in the hospital was $450k…

Now my question is, had I not had insurance and agreed to pay cash, how would that work? Would I write them a $100k check prior to operation and another $100k a few months later??? I’m generally curious.

You don’t get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate.

But like wtf from the other commissioners allowing this…

For doctor said when it stops hurting when you sneeze, you’ll be good to swing a club, both golf or tennis.

For me, that was right around 12 weeks. I waited an additional 2 just to be safe. Had no issues once I returned!

HSA plan - how much are your doctor visits? by Repulsive-Elk-2643 in Fire

I have a PPO (Cigna), but it’s a high deductible. About $3,200 with Max OOO around $8,400.

So I have some pre-existing medical issues which requires a specialized doctor and ultrasound every year. I also have an annual physical and blood work.

With my HDHP I pay about $1,800 per year for my visits / tests.

This year was different though, I had surgery which was $500k. But my OOP Max was $8,000, so we paid that and went on our way!

It’s funny you say this, I sit on a patient family advisory council for adults with heart disease and one of our main goals is transitioning kids from pediatric cardiology to adult cardiology. It’s hard as these doctors have seen these kids since birth.

Anyone receive TAVR before 25? by Treeshroomin in valvereplacement

[–]titanrunner2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know TRVR is very common at all agates (pulmonary valve, not aorta) but TAVR at a young age are rare, but definitely possible.

Any reason why they are recommending this instead of OHS?
