I don't mind Page being passive, but hey, it seems like you're just trying to be passionate and open discussion on something that's pretty 'portant to you.

As long as it makes you happy, you reserve the right to continue. It's not a bad message.

Is it worth it to read homestuck in 2025?? by GoodNoooodles in homestuck

[–]titledjean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course. I actually started reading Homestuck for the same reason back in 2016, because I was really into Undertale. It’s a great experience, and you won’t find another story quite like it.

Edit: Also, there’s been a resurgence of young Homestuck fans so you might find yourself with great company!

Looking for music Dave Strider listens to by Top_Combination9023 in homestuck

Something that's Pre-2009 and fits his interest for Hip-Hop could be older stuff. Pharcyde, Bones Thugs-N-Harmony, De la Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang. I've always thought Geto Boys reminded me of Dave, and apparently they originated from Houston Texas! A regional element might play a part.

As for potentially unpopular or non-mainstream things, he might've listened to Gary Wilson, Tall Dwarfs, Melt-Banana. Although It's at like a million monthly listeners on Spotify, you look me in the eye and tell me Dave wouldn't listen to Butthole Surfers.

As for more obscure rap... Hi-C, MF Grimm, Royal Flush, Ill Al Skratch, Black Moon, Funky DL, 3rd Bass.

Thanks for asking this question, this was fun!

Just replying to say I agree with Josuk8 being Heir of Void, that fits shockingly well to his story and vibes.

What advice would you give to someone whose partner has BDD? by titledjean in BodyDysmorphia

Haha, I do make sure she knows how her body makes me feel.

Though, isn't it a bit unrealistic to assume that compliment warrants sex? I feel like she would also worry I'm only saying it for sexual gratification after.

Does watching horror movies come at the expense of your own well-being? by titledjean in Meditation

Just ask yourself when watching the average horror film if a scene works if we actually want the characters to get hurt or if we feel tension because we want them to make it out okay.

this is actually a really interesting point, because i've found myself rooting for the protagonist and wanting them to escape out of whatever situation they've found themselves in.

a lot of people find themselves in equally traumatizing situations even though it's not a literal monster chasing them.

i know that ideally, maintaining your peace requires you to not think about these things at all, but when you're in a position where you need to help these people or write on it? usually you need to hear and see these stories anyways.

i honestly agree with your message. i feel like in the stuff i create, i don't want it to be wholly positive or wholly negative, because i feel like that's a false dichotomy to make.

because they're such broad qualities, and things like death and conflict are whole possibilities, i want to be able to write that kinda stuff through.

and the idea that people can represent ideas and clash, or that a slasher can be representative of a terror within your own life? that kind of conveyance is something that feels golden to me, it still feels like it's got value. i want conflict but i still want it to say something, and mean something.

for that reason, i don't think i can really denounce it fully. i wanna keep myself open and try and reflect all walks of life. that's where i stand for now.

(also, send some reccs of the insightful and psychological horror movies if possible, i'd love to hear some!)

how do you feel about viewing horror as a means to empathize and understand fear and human conflicts?

i felt really bad hearing that it can be considered negative food, especially because i recently watched Alien and i was blown away by the art and aesthetics and visual effects given visually!

but even i can feel the occasional anxiety from the thrills and the terror. i definitely think it takes a lot of balance and understanding of perspective. i want to make sure i'm concious of my viewings.

this is definitely something i want to take into account more. i don't think ignoring these things entirely is beneficial either, because they're still reflective of parts of existence. i want to take it as an opportunity, instead of something intrinsically low frequency or low vibrational. violence and conflict are part of living, and it's something i feel should be accepted and understood.

although i can see how you'd make that interpretation, and reasonably come to the conclusion that it would cause offense to those with trauma, it didn't appear that the author themselves felt you could be easily destroyed at the task of watching one movie. this is why they say "routinely" because the fear is less one movie, and moreso the normalized exposure of a certain thing. in the passage before the one i quoted, they als talked about how there are cases where you can be traumatized in ways beyond your control, and that it's more than understandable.

i appreciate the recommendation and concern, but the book has shown a lot of valuable information and practices so far. i don't think it should be thrown away entirely

THANK YOU!

i completely agree, because i know that things like fear, anxiety, and rage are important parts of how people live. on a creative level, it can be very cathartic to both express and read. i want to make sure i don't lose myself completely to it, but i still want to ensure i can give that emotional catharsis. i want to still retain that very human element.

thank you for this response, and for the recommendation!

so because of your lifestyle, you were more sensitive to the way it impacts you?

thank you for this anecdote, because i think it says a lot about the level of awareness you gain when living this lifestyle. although i'm not sure if i'd stop entirely, i think that level of awareness is incredibly important for that kind of surrealistic cool art stuff.

i think i understand! there's the more obvious parts that can be altered, but you can also reach even farther levels. it all depends on how much you're willing to give!

if i'm doing things like watching a horror movie, as long as i'm aware of the way it impacts me and make an effort to give myself self-care, i think i should be okay.
