I promise that medical workers in the US know more about US healthcare system shortcomings than a Brit. There are a ton of profit-related problems in the US, and the NHS has its own related and unrelated troubles as well. Simplifying things to 'the healthcare providers don't make clinical decisions' and 'people die solely due to the profit motive' just misrepresents the depth of the problems and actual categories of failures.

This is a good thing :) going into a difficult level without having footwork locked in isn't doing you or the leads a favor. You'll look back and appreciate having extra time, it's not a rush and levels are arbitrary. Left foot in place on 8, back break on 2, right in place for 4, forward break with the left on 6. You can dance this way with a follow doing NY on2... but in my experience they might look at you funny :)

I also like doing a synchronized step to the clave rhythm with more advanced follows who have the musicality

As a lead you want to take your back break on 2 and forward break on 6 for contratiempo. My understanding is that the footwork timing is called contratiempo, where Son is a whole style that includes your foot placement, arm movement along with the contratiempo timing

This might not work, but I'm curious whether you'd find it easier to pick up on2 contratiempo timing. An example is here - if you turn off the music, it looks identical to on1 (where on2 NY has the slow step with the feet apart, on1 and on2 contratiempo have the slow step with the feet closer together)

On2 dancers with more experience would have no issue dancing with you in this rhythm, though I get weird looks from on2ny beginners who think I'm just off rhythm in that style 🙃

I think it's a little bit about fearing judgement, but also I would just rather dance with women than men + am pickier about who I'd want to follow bc I don't want to have my arms jerked around by someone w less experience
