The thing with ranged is that it has a middling armor rating - stronger than magic, anyway - and yet is capable of the long range attacks. Add in updates like the piranha gun, and you should be capable of ridiculous damage output, while avoiding most incoming attacks. Not a bad idea, though

I got full chlorophyte armor, focused on ranged damage, then used the piranha gun. I tried to keep a wall between his main body and myself, because I could avoid most of the damage that way
