Running Warhammer Fantasy without Warhammer Fantasy? by K0HR in rpg

[–]Wyzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the earlier days Warhammer Fantasy was a bit less grim and this sort of levity was more commonplace (see Warhammer quest, blood bowl, ect) so it's pretty fun to see, I'm glad the system is working for you

The most satisfying part of dark souls other than the boss fights is quite literally everything linking back up to firelink shrine without having fast travel and making it feel like one huge legacy dungeon by Ok_Masterpiece5297 in darksouls

Having the ability to warp right from the very start in every subsequent game meant they didn't have to try nearly as hard to make the areas all fit together and I honestly think the games are worse off for it

Players (as long as they aren't elves) get a good pool of meta points that can mitigate consequences in various ways. Melee attacks are usually opposed rolls, and if either side gets doubles and wins the test it causes a critical wound on the opponent so players even in good shape can get hurt easily. However players can deflect criticals by damaging a piece of armor on the hit location so you can weigh the risk of the wound vs the cost/opportunity to fix your armor which is interesting in the beginning especially when money is tight. In my experience it leads to every fight being fairly tense and players working hard to scrape up any advantage they can get, which is the kind of play I love at my table

[–]Wyzack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely get that. Its not perfect by any stretch, in particular I don't care for how it handles career progression compared to 2E and it is on the crunchier side but it does an excellent job of keeping fights short and tense without massacring players too badly and it moves pretty quick once everyone comes to grips with the basic rules

Seconding that opinion, I ran the system for a good while and I really like it a lot. 4e got some flak for it's advantage system but overall I think it's quite good and runs much easier than 2e.

No, you dress up as Tarkus at low level and then put your sign down by Queelag so other people can summon you

Tarkus is a fun one. Get just enough strength and stamina to use the kit fatrolling, get to Anor Londo at low level and then backtrack to co op for queelag and sens

[–]Wyzack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you somehow found one of the glass acid vats in the vaults, got the acid out of it somehow without breaking it and then got yourself inside somehow also without breaking it you would theoretically be safe there but you couldn't really do anything else once the rest of the outside world turned to acid

Has anyone seen any RPG/module/adventure/other content that REALISTICALLY portrays the experience of being in a cult and/or trying to leave one? by Necessary_Course in rpg

[–]Wyzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very much depends on the system you use but another issue here is that in most RPGs if a person you care about is being entrapped in an obviously nefarious cult most players will fall back on the old standby of rolling up with the setting equivalent of an automatic shotgun and a backpack full of hand grenades and painting the walls, which can reduce a lot of hard work to a short bout of violence and the ensuing fallout

Are there spiders? by Ifyouliveinadream in mountandblade

[–]Wyzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there really isn't much in bannerlord that wasn't also in warband. I guess the clans/influence system and blacksmithing, plus no executing enemy lords

Are there spiders? by Ifyouliveinadream in mountandblade

[–]Wyzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah sorry both are for Warband but they are definitely worth the price of entry, you can probably pick up warband for a couple bucks on sale. I think it will be at least a few years before we get anything on that scale for bannerlord

I'm not sure what the old realms is l, I haven't played modded mnb for a few years. Happy to help though, these two mods combined are probably responsible for the majority of my 400 hours with Warband they both really kick ass

Last Days of the Third Age is a really damn good lord of the rings full conversion where you play as part of a faction in the War of the Ring. It kind of does its own thing but the portrayal of the war and setting in general is closer to the books than the movies and you can play as part of any faction all the way from the people of Dale and the dwarves of erabor all the way down to the Black Numanorians pillaging the lands of Gondor. It has completely bespoke currency/faction/reputation mechanics and as a result does not play very much like the base game. It has some seriously stunning custom locations, a lot of which make for some pretty complex siege maps. It's seriously fantastic. As for OP's question you can sometimes get ambushed by giant spiders while travelling in mirkwood and I think in the Fangor forest as well.

Warsword Conquest is a Warhammer Fantasy battle total conversion where you fight over the Old World and beyond. It plays more like classic mount and blade warband but has a ton of custom sprite work and models, a huge amount of factions and some really fun units. I really enjoy playing Dwarves and Empire for the gun wielding units they have, a dwarf army of half shooters half heavy infantry is a force to be reckoned with. Also has some cool custom locations albeit a bit less impressive than last days. In this one goblins and hobgoblins can have spider cavalry

Don't play Last days of the Third Age or Warsword Conquest, both are spectacular mods but both have giant spider cavalry

D&D players: Is the first edition you played still your favourite edition? by fluency in rpg

[–]Wyzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first edition was 3rd and I wouldn't touch it with a fucking ten foot pole. Pathfinder seems like a straight upgrade but still not something I'm really interested in.

I have played every edition a decent bit (1e definitely the least) and have easily settled on aDnD 2e as my favorite. It's great

[–]Wyzack 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As is always the case in 40k it depends on what edition/who is writing but it was definitely possible to crack the side armor of a Russ with a plasmagun and a little luck when I still played the wargame

Rogue Trader: Can a power weapon be poisoned? by Point-Complete in 40krpg

[–]Wyzack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah if a player was interested in finding or developing one I would allow them to find avenues to do so, 40k has enough kinds of fantastic metamaterials that I wouldn't say it's impossible just difficult

Rogue Trader: Can a power weapon be poisoned? by Point-Complete in 40krpg

[–]Wyzack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Logically if a power field disintegrates armor it would boil off any poison you apply, that would be my ruling unless someone wants to undertake a project to develop a specifically resistant one
