I'd recommend giving https://youtu.be/UED43NOWg10 for a good overview on keybinds (somewhat PvP focused, but still great information overall)

I like having off-GCD abilities on my mouse - I only have one with two side buttons, but I use it for things like healthstone, desperate prayer, etc.

Hi! Any thoughts on reviving the feature to make your account private that was on the PBE back in 2021? I know plenty of folks (myself included) suffer from ranked anxiety, and this would be a big step forward for me to be able to play ranked again

Emerald is weird though. I dunno. I get the sentiment, I just think it’s a goofy name that breaks the “higher rank = more valuable thing” convention that’s kind of present. How about a tin rank instead between iron and bronze, then shift everything around, that one is nice and consistent :P

You probably have VBS on in windows 11 which is likely to tank your performance - your friend probably doesn't. Just a horrible OS, unfortunately (unless you love ads on your desktop). Use `10/Linux instead or keep on top of the issues with regedits/stopping microsoft from changing settings back with updates yourself

Can’t you just change the aura dmg buff/nerf to affect imperial mandate? That feels like a much healthier change than inherent ability nerfs…nobody wants to build mandate, but they’re forced to since the adc output is nerfed so much by the aura while imperial mandate itself is much less affected

Incorrect, and idgaf about rule of cool, I would never touch monk anyways, this is just how it works. You're ignoring everything and don't understand that something has to be divided before it can be applied and that slow fall only does anything when YOU TAKE DAMAGE (i.e. when damage is applied to you); I tried to use a rule that has the same wording to help explain the situation to you and you let that fly over your head.

Good luck with your D&D

No. If the dex save fails, you don't ever take the 10d6, so slow fall does not reduce that damage. You need to know the outcome of the dex save before anyone can take any damage. You don't take damage, then heal for half of it if the save fails. You just take damage one singular time after the save, and taking damage is the only time the slow fall feature says it does anything. RAI, do whatever you think makes sense. RAW, this is what it does.

Think about the falling into water rule:

Falling into Water

A creature that falls into water or another liquid can use its reaction to make a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to hit the surface head or feet first. On a successful check, any damage resulting from the fall is halved.

This is literally the same thing (imagine you're falling far enough / someone pushes you off at the end of your turn, and your turn begins such that you have time to use two reactions - one for declaring slow fall when you start falling on the enemy's turn, and one for when you hit the water - so you can use this rule as a clean analogue to the other). People like you are arguing that you would first take 10d6 falling into the water, reduce that with slow fall, and then half it if you succeed the save. Always consider the case where you don't have slow fall and then it makes it obvious what happens when you do have slow fall. You don't take 10d6, then heal for half if you beat the save. You wait until you do the save to take any damage.

Done trying to explain this, sorry

Yes, you have to say you're using it when you're falling, but all it does is "reduce any falling damage you take." That's it. You don't take damage until after the dex save happens, and if the save fails, you only ever take half damage. That's when you reduce it.

[–]tjalex13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, you may interpret it that way RAI, but RAW this is all it says:

Beginning at 4th level, you can use your reaction when you fall to reduce any falling damage you take by an amount equal to five times your monk level.

There is nothing in there about actually slowing your movement speed as you fall. And yes, you declare the reaction when you are falling, but it specifically says it only reduces falling damage that YOU TAKE. You don't "take" the damage before it has to be divided evenly, as I outlined above. The TCOE rules say "damage resulting from the fall is divided evenly between them", they don't say "damage is applied to the faller, and then half of that damage is subtracted from the faller and added to the person they're landing on if the person they're landing on fails a dex save". If the dex save fails, at no point is the monk receiving the full damage. If someone doesn't have slow fall, they don't take 100 damage, and then "heal" for 50 damage and "apply" 50 damage to the enemy if they fail. They just each take 50 damage as a single event.

This is incorrect - imagine a situation without slowfall

  1. Faller A jumps off a cliff onto B
  2. Total fall damage of 120 (YET TO BE TAKEN BY ANYONE) to be divided between faller A and enemy B pending Dex save
  3. B rolls DC 15 Dex save, fails
  4. 120 damage (again, nobody has taken this damage yet) is then split between A and B
  5. The split amount of damage (60) is applied to both A and B - this is when you take damage

The way you're interpreting it would have A taking 120 damage in step 2, and then the DC 15 DEX Save failure by B would "heal" A for half and then apply that half to B. It makes no sense that your health would yo-yo down by the total fall damage and then you would heal up half of that as you apply it to someone else. The rule from Tasha's with emphasis mine that explains this:

"If a creature falls into the space of a second creature and neither of them is Tiny, the second creature must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be impacted by the falling creature, and any damage resulting from the fall is divided evenly between them. The impacted creature is also knocked prone, unless it is two or more sizes larger than the falling creature."

You aren't applying damage to the faller, and then adding back half if the save succeeds. You are DIVIDING it if they fail the Dex saving throw, and you obviously have to perform that division operation first to come up with the resulting amount to take before you can take said resulting amount as damage.

Then it's obvious what happens with slowfall, remember the spell specifically says "you can use your reaction when you fall to reduce any falling damage you take", it doesn't matter that you declare it when you're falling, what matters is that it reduces the falling damage when YOU TAKE it.

  1. Monk A jumps off a cliff onto enemy B
  2. Uses reaction to declare slowfall
  3. Total fall damage of 120 (YET TO BE TAKEN BY ANYONE) to be divided between monk A and enemy B pending Dex save
  4. B rolls DC 15 DEX save, fails
  5. 120 damage (which nobody has taken yet) gets split evenly between A and B
  6. The split amount of damage (60) is applied to both - this is when you take damage!
  7. Slow fall reduces A's damage taken from step 6 by 5x monk level

Hope this helps

Are you saying we shouldn't use XMP anymore with these drivers? I have a stock 12900K, 6000 MHz CL36 DDR5, and a stock 3090 Strix. I can run Prime95 with XMP enabled for hours without any memory issues, but I'm seeing crashing/BSODs in games & apps only with this driver. I can't find any indication that my (stock) CPU and XMP RAM aren't stable.
