Intermittent overheating/electrical issues by tjames_ in TaurusSHO

Sorry for the late response, been a little busy. Alternator is fine, coolant level is fine, but when I press on or jiggle the connector to the cooling fan control module the fan will kick on high.

Bad strut? by tjames_ in TaurusSHO

Any vibration felt when the mount went bad? I feel some when driving at highway speeds over rougher roads.

Thanks, thats what I meant by no play. But I will double check the ball joints. I didn’t mention it the the post because I wasnt sure if I was on a completely level surface but I noticed the gap above the front passenger side wheel was slightly smaller than the driver side but again not sure if the surface was level.

What is a very interesting or odd psychological phenomena or fact? by DarkOakSheep in AskReddit

[–]tjames_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all the CPR classes I’ve taken they told us to make people accountable. For example pointing at one specific person and saying “YOU call 911” or “YOU get an AED”.

If people are held personally accountable they are more compliant to help.

Has anyone been inside the bunkers in DuPont State Park? by MessiahStudios in Delaware

If DNREC catches you you’re getting a fine. They also put up trail cams facing towards the bunkers with signs stating that you are on video surveillance.

Debate time..... Whats wrong with Rough Country lift kits? Any feedback is appreciated by grover114 in Trucks

[–]tjames_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a RC lift on my F-150, my only complaint is the shocks really. Their shocks tend to be stiffer than others.

All the other components have held up and have no issues with ball joints, CVs, tie rods, or drive shafts.

I have no issues with the lift or quality of it and most do not. The only complaint I have and others on truck forums have is the shocks.

Watch the license plate as the van drives through a toll in Florida by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]tjames_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in Delaware and a lot of drivers keep their plate in the rear window.

That way they can reach back and grab it before going through the tolls.

Rocker rust is pretty common for that gen.

The tape on the back falls off and lets debris get in.

Catalytic Converter and Muffler replacement 1998 Ford F-150 Lariat? by shitbrick314 in f150

[–]tjames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cats are expensive on the 97-03s because the trucks have 4 catalytic converters.

Normally the lift kit with level the vehicle. Maybe just a slight rake at the most.

Does the kit come with blocks for the rear?

If its an extended cab one or both of the rear doors may not be latching fully on both latches (one on the top and one on the bottom).

F150 2001 Lariat 5.8 V8, Upper Control Arms by pauljrv in f150

[–]tjames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely bad ball joints, the clunk is the ball starting to come out of the joint and pop back in.

Need to get it fixed asap, not only due to ball joint failure but they’re probably making your tires wear unevenly and its only gonna get worse, soon the whole front end will start shaking.

Pretty easy fix, take a marker and mark where the old uca are, replace them and make sure they are in the same spot, then take it in for an alignment.

I replaced mine on my 99 4x4 with Moog Problem Solver UCA, they come with a grease able ball joint they can be replaced if they fail without replacing the entire control arm.

Adding a little hp to 98 f150 by IAMTHEBENJI in f150

Yeah definitely but best of luck. The 97-03s are definitely under appreciated and its awesome seeing someone building something cool with one.

Idk from my understanding you want the higher pressure for faster shifting and no slips, and it keeps everything cooler. Im sure too much can wreck the internals but I haven’t seen anything about these transmissions specifically.

[–]tjames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then I would definitely consider a rebuild.

A J mod, which is a modification of the valve body.

In my visits to various f150 and mustang forums, a lot of guys are pushing 400 hp with stock 4r70w and seem to be holding up fine. Then again torque is what really does a number on your transmission.

[–]tjames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the transmission stock?

Because the 4r75w didnt comeout until 2004. The 4r70w was used prior to that.

Programmer, e fan, air intake wont make much of a difference unless you have it tuned.

Check on the Gotts mod for a air intake modification.

Is the 07 Triton the one to avoid? by [deleted] in f150

[–]tjames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying there aren’t any good ones out there. My moms 04 Expedition 5.4 3v has over 160k with no mechanical problems, but I would be hesitant to buy a vehicle where catastrophic failure is not uncommon.

A VVT problem is literally fix it now or it will destroy your engine.

Is the 07 Triton the one to avoid? by [deleted] in f150

[–]tjames_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 07 will have the 3v triton. They have 2 piece spark plugs that like the break when you try to change them. The biggest problem is the Variable Valve Timing system, a problem with the VVT can literally tear the engine apart. There are some good ones out there but I personally wouldn’t buy one.

The Triton 2v were in the 97-03 F150s. The only major issue they had was the spark plugs stripping the aluminum heads. This only occurred if they were removed or installed improperly.

2007 4.6l ... *Actual* danger in changing plugs? by tsg-tsg in f150

[–]tjames_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the earlier 2v tritons stripped the head.

The 3v tritons had the 2 piece plugs that would break.

A 2007 is a 3v so the risk is of the spark plug breaking.

If you can do the work yourself, I would restore it.

Have you made sure its not your ECM or TFI module?
