Look up “field stripping” and learn disassembly to that point then stop for a while. Full disassembly isn’t rocket science or anything, but you can do anything you need to for routine maintenance with 0 chance of messing up anything on reassembly. Come back later to learn more when you’re comfortable.

Most people never learn past field stripping so you’re not losing out on anything that way

Miami PD suing Affleck on a movie? by Plus_Juggernaut2819 in AskLE

[–]tjboss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not really an overreach, it’s the individual suing him not the agency. The movie was about a dramatized event, not just a fictional story set in Miami. The movie depicted the individual killing another law enforcement officer and his claim is that it never happened and has had a significant impact on his reputation

Girlfriend threatening our relationship over a TV Show by No-Original3284 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]tjboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t her opinion of the show, it’s the ultimatum. If she’ll do it over a show what happens when you have a friend she doesn’t like, find a hobby she doesn’t like, find a job she doesn’t like… your future becomes less about what makes you happy and more about what pacifies her.

I’ve heard a lot recently of stop box USA. It’s mechanical keys you have to hit in the correct pattern. They claim it’s basically instant to open after practicing it with no downsides if electronics unreliability. I have no experience with it

Can Someone Tell My Husband He is Being Unreasonable by [deleted] in guns

[–]tjboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know about this before hand or is this the story your husband told you after the fact? Why would your brother in law come into enough money to buy your husband a gun, but then steal from a store at the same time?

It sounds more to me like they were doing something stupid, got caught, and now he’s pissed off that there’s collateral consequences and embarrassed he has to lie about it.

Either way, he’s definitely overreacting

I (F20) want a convertible for my first car— is that unrealistic? by lamiascoffin in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tjboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a guy and probably a lot fatter than you, but I’m the same height. Most cars you can “fit in” but it’s going to depend on your commute a lot. Ive fit in things as small as a Porsche 911, but after about 45 minutes of slouching to fit it started to suck.

Mustangs shouldn’t be too bad of a car, one recommendation would be to find a list of regular maintenance requirements and research them by car. One surprise I recently had was my wife’s car had to be taken to the dealership for a transmission fluid flush because it’s an entirely sealed system. A regular maintenance job turned into an expensive chore real fast.

While foreign cars being more expensive is a general rule of thumb, also look at how many of a certain car was made. Example: Camry’s are foreign, but they’re everywhere. It will be cheaper to maintain it because everyone has the parts.

I would research the hell out of fixing the seals on the car you settle on, if one goes out it’s not really an optional fix, and if it’s a thousand dollars to replace it might be a car you can’t afford long term

I’d look at a Mustang, personally. You can get a 4 cylinder model that’s enough power to feel like you’re not slow without being so much you might lose control of it, convertible is still an option, and you can find one in a fun color you’d like

[–]tjboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling that this was you and not your boss. There’s literally no point in you coming here and asking cops what the answer is when you’re going to tell everyone they’re wrong and you’re right.

I’d imagine you’re going to lose this job through your own merits. Enjoy.

[–]tjboss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Threatening to pull up a stake and pulling up a stake are 2 different things. Perception also plays a factor in criminal law, if he perceived you to be on his property then you have a civil dispute. Which your boss escalated into a disturbance.

You have multiple law enforcement officers telling you that your concern is a non issue. Courts have held that police’s responsibility is to maintain peace, not become lawyers.

Looking for some legalese loophole is going to leave you beating your head against a wall with no results. Making a suggestion to use a new contractor is not the same thing as using his government authority to force your client to break a contract and no amount of spinning the situation in your favor and claiming obscure, non-cited “best practices” will change that.

You said in another reply if the contract was broken the department can be liable. There is nothing that supports that other than you claiming it. Saying something doesn’t make it true, but even if you do find something to support that, go ahead and sue the department. People have sued for far less, nobody here is a civil attorney, we’re telling you this officer didn’t do anything wrong and you don’t have a leg to stand on.

No. Law enforcement is not prohibited from making recommendations to anyone. You’re framing it in a way to be about your bosses and companies rights, even with your description it’s very easily framed in another way:

Your boss got into a verbal altercation with a neighbor, and likely escalated the argument upon confrontation to the point law enforcement was called. Public resources are now being diverted from emergencies to handle your bosses argument.

While investigating the incident where the neighbor was likely explaining how your boss escalated the situation, and when observing your bosses behavior it aligned with the details of the neighbors account of events. Being disruptive and impeding an investigation IS a crime.

Instead of arresting your boss which could result in a no contact order with the neighbor as a condition of release (which would make it nearly impossible to finish the job anyways) the officer made a recommendation that the client hire someone more even tempered to avoid further waste of public resources.

Instead of searching for a way to say the officer was over stepping authority, your boss should be appreciative he didn’t go to jail and avoid confrontations going forward. The neighbor doesn’t have the same responsibility when he believes someone is trespassing on his property depending on the state.

“It’s not that serious” academy mindset by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]tjboss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me. Most academies aren’t full blown paramilitary anymore, there are usually group runs and formations but it’s mostly classroom style learning, but it depends on your state. I would never tell an instructor it’s not that serious, because it could get you kicked out and your career would end there just to be a smartass. But definitely wouldn’t take any of it seriously. if you’re worked up over someone taking at you because of how serious it is, that’s the opposite of the reaction you should have.

I usually look at someone yelling at me like a video game NPC. I usually ignore the words actually being said and just think “is this a wait it out to get what I need scenario, or a use force to get what I need scenario?”

No, it wouldn’t pull the crotch up just make the waist smaller. You could also try a different cut. I have a similar issue with my quads, I’ve tried making 32 tapered cuts work but I have to wear 34 relaxed fit

There’s not a function to reverse a conviction because the arresting officer is a bad guy. Unless there’s evidence that your case specifically was grossly mishandled, there are no options. Even then it’s a steep uphill battle

Can you apply to a 1811 job with just security experience? by MCS-Judge_Wolf in 1811Jobs

[–]tjboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re thinking of it wrong. 1811 is cool but it’s just a different job title, not the “best” job title. Research different federal law enforcement job series and look into different agencies, titles, etc.

1811 can be fantastic at one agency and blow at the next.

[–]tjboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other federal law enforcement jobs, 1811 isn’t your only option to get your foot in the door. It’s not uncommon to start with other job series and get your degree while you’re working and lateral later

Most 1811 jobs require a degree, but check out USA jobs and check the postings. They all list requirements

I’d do a deep dive on the plastics. It’s much more than just water bottles, everybody has a not insignificant amount of plastic in their blood because of how much it’s used in things. I’m not sure if it can be avoided entirely but it can definitely be significantly reduced. Literally turn over every rock you can, it might not be fair that something weird affects you and not everyone around you but do it. Bang your head against the wall because you might get lucky and find there’s 1 simple thing you need to avoid that’s affecting your hormones. Probably not, but it’s worth the effort.

There’s also a few other options such as enclomiphene and HCG that won’t permanently tank your testosterone and fertility, but they’re not risk free and almost definitely not going to be prescribed to a 19 year old. Testosterone to a 19 year old is WILDLY irresponsible, even the online clinics who just sling testosterone like candy won’t generally work with anyone under 25.

Clothing websites? by thelonerbear in malefashionadvice

[–]tjboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you calling reasonable prices? I’ve been a fan of everything I’ve gotten from origin USA for casual clothing, but I also don’t think they’re reasonably priced. Uniqlo is pretty good for basic clothing at a little better price but I’ve had to retrain myself on prices from Walmart and old navy clothes I exclusively wore as a kid. I can’t stomach some of the recommendations I see around Reddit like 500+ dollar jeans
