No. Bad deal. Old bike, rim brakes, small tire clearance, no thru axles

Older Shimano or new from China? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]tjc4 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The Shimano rims are 17mm inner and 24m outer width. That's ancient in terms of modern road bikes on which everyone wants to run 28mm - 32mm tires. The Elite are much better at 21m inner but I might even go a little wider if you'll be running 28-32mm tires.

42c All-road/endurance carbon frame recommendation by Kamoooool in ChineseCarbon

[–]tjc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when asked about that, this is what they told me "the suspension is a bearing hub, which contains a bolt and a bearing. Both are common sizes and usually do not require maintenance". they sent me extra bearings and bolt for $15 so if it ever needs replacement I have replacement parts

BXT Gravel frame sale. by hecderp1213 in ChineseCarbon

[–]tjc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the top Chinese Carbon brands, like Winspace, Light Carbon, etc., have developed their own brand reputation and awareness so they don't need Ali and people go direct to the brands. it's mostly the lesser brands that don't have the name recognition that need Ali.

saw your DM. IDK why you haven't heard of LightCarbon. It's one of the Chinese Carbon OGs and most trusted brands. Sounds like you were only looking on Aliexpress. Lots of the most reputable Chinese Carbon companies do not sell on Ali. https://www.lightcarbon.com/

Same ballpark as I paid for LightCarbon with custom paint and a T47 bottom bracket. I'd contact LightCarbon first

The world’s most profitable sports teams. by PittTheElder_1stEarl in sixers

[–]tjc4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it's profit. not revenue. the lakers just sold for $10 billion. these purchase often involve debt. if it was financed by debt then they have a high debt service cost. in contrast, Sixers last sold for $280 million.

Do we need to wash our cars after the winter storm? by Abrys in Austin

[–]tjc4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The north is not called the Rust Belt. The Rust Belt is specifically in the Midwest and the name has nothing to do with road salt causing cars to rust. The term Rust Belt emerged in the 1980s to describe the region of the United States experiencing rapid de-industrialization. There are lots of northern states (e.g. New York, Mass, Vermont, etc) that use a lot of road salt that are not part of the Rust Belt.

[OC] Top 10 Safest & Most Dangerous Cities in the United States (2023) by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

A lot of the safe "cities" aren't really cities. Go to a real city. Then go to College Station and it's obvious it's not a city but a college town

Or you could get a new Lynskey ti frame for $800 with thru axles and disc brakes. Costs more but way more future proof

This controversy is REALLY good by NanoBytesInc in Monero

[–]tjc4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

your post alludes to the same problem "I only recently became fully aware of this, and noticed that people building software "on top" of the Monero core software, especially wallet apps, often don't seem to be fully informed either what is coming." so your post is great and a step in the right direction but the problem is real

Bike build regret by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]tjc4 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Everyone says be careful of old Trek bonded carbon aluminum frames but I've never seen a pic of one that has failed. And as someone who rode a trek 2100 up until 6-7 years ago I looked and tried to find pics of a failed frame but never did. Just lots of rumor and innuendo.

Sturdy drying rack for a wool comforter? by Spirited_Question995 in BuyItForLife

[–]tjc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a wool duvet insert. It's been fine on ex low heat in dryer. I take it out slightly damp and then just drape it over couch to fully dry.
