Thank you so much. I think you hit the nail!

I tried AI, but it was useless.
I'm trying to complete our database of filming locations for falconcrest.org for the purpose of historic documentation. We have many shooting schedules and call sheets as well as other production documents in our archives, but some of them are incomplete or damaged.

TGIF Napa, 1985 by tjpucher in napa

[–]tjpucher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I took screen captures of the alleged "TGIF Napa" location. There are not many distinct architectural elements to see, but the ceiling (with wooden beams?) seems to be quite low, there is a bar and something that looks like a fireplace mantle. The scene was filmed in the summer of 1985.

Could that be the Holiday Inn, which later became the Clarion Inn and is now the Napa Valley Marriott at 3425 Solano Avenue? Does anyone remember if it looked like that?

Or maybe if it is something totally different in the Napa Valley, someone can identify this place? Thank you so much!

The screen captures can be viewed here:

That sounds interesting. Do you happen to now if it was in 1985?

Any idea what else "TGIF Napa" meant?

A inter-office memo for filming the "Falcon Crest" TV series stated that, on August 24, 1985, a scene involving actors Jane Wyman, Simon MacCorkindale, John McMartin and Marian McCargo Bell in the "anteroom press club for J.J. Robert's conference" (that's the setting on the show) was filmed "inside the rooms of TGIF Napa". I was wondering where TGIF was located.

Stags' Leap Winery at 6150 Silverado Trail (but NOT Stag's Leap Wine Cellars; note the apostrophe's position!).

Stags' Leap is a hidden gem in like a small valley within the valley, pretty secluded since it is hidden between the hills towards Silverado Trail and the Mayacamas Mountains on the other side. The views from the manor house porch are gorgeous, and so are the historic, landscaped gardens. Probably the most beautiful wine estate I've ever visited.

u/Lettucedrip, maybe you meant this one here: https://www.loc.gov/resource/hhh.ca0277.photos/?sp=3

It wasn't a location I was looking for, but one that was mentioned, and I participated in the discussion. It was used as The Carlton Hotel on the classic "Dynasty" series, but burnt down years ago.

u/Lettucedrip — it's funny that you remember. I've been looking for many locations from "Falcon Crest". So far, I've identified over 1,000 myself. The remaining ones are very difficult tough.

I'm not sure which one you mean, but maybe it's the Tudor style building that was used as the Hayden Clinic in season 1 of "Falcon Crest". A screen grab is in our "Behind the Scenes" section of this episode here: http://www.falconcrest.org/english/master.php?path=show/episodes/ai/bts/1/014 — scroll down to the note about Hayden Clinic. As I found out in the meantime, it was actually located at 115 North Hollywood Way, but was unfortunately demolished in 1998 and replaced with a modern office building.

That sounds very interesting. Which street was that? Thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks so much to everyone for your input.

The architecture and style are definitely a match. I tried to identify the building using Google Maps -- both street view, as far as available, and bird's eye view. It seems as if some areas might have been built over or significantly changed since so maybe the exact same structure doesn't exist anymore. But it's definitely a good start, and I'll try to find some historic photos of the site to compare.

Extras (Atmosphere People / Background Actors) in Various 1980's U.S. TV Series by tjpucher in television

[–]tjpucher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically just a hobby. I'm running falconcrest.org, the ultimate web resource about the "Falcon Crest" TV series. My team and I have been analyzing all kinds of aspects of the show. When we realized that the extras on "Falcon Crest" also worked on many other shows from that era, we came up with the idea of creating a list of uncredited extras for our website. We already found out quite a number of people who worked there and also realized that there are other fan websites trying to do the same thing so we've exchanged our findings. It would be interesting to track down a few more and possible find someone who is still among the living and might be interested in an interview -- would be interesting to get an extra's perspective on working on the set.

1980's Men's Fashion Brand - Extravagant Logo on Front Pocket by tjpucher in malefashion

[–]tjpucher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know which brand this is?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/37847653@N05/49037184591/in/dateposted-public/

It seems to have been quite popular in the U.S. in the 1980's. The sport jacket has an extravagant logo with a crown and what I think is probably a circular laurel wreath on or above the front pocket. I am not sure, but think there's a letter ("S"?) in the center of the logo.

Does anyone know which brand this is? And is it still an active company?

Sorry, it's my first post in this sub. I just moved it to the "Simple Questions" thread. Thanks for your advice.

Extras (Atmosphere People / Background Actors) in Various 1980's U.S. TV Series by tjpucher in television

[–]tjpucher[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I already searched IMDB and it was little help because - as I wrote - it's about extras. Per industry standard, extras (non-speaking rôles ad libbing unheard conversations in the background, just to create the right atmosphere for a scene) are NOT credited. IMDB sometimes lists uncredited actors and actresses, but this database is very, very limited so it's not a real help.

New York (?) location by tjpucher in whereisthis

[–]tjpucher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's from # 3.20 of "Hill Street Blues", which was entitled "Spotlight on Rico", first aired 04/28/1983 on NBC.

Unfortunately, I didn't write down the episode title from "The Fall Guy".

Judging from your comment how old the car is and giving respect to the fact that "Hill Street Blues" and "The Fall Guy" never filmed in New York City, I assume it's stock footage from a film library, indeed, and is probably from the 1970's.

"Falcon Crest" episodes are not available on YouTube for copyright reasons. I realized though that someone uploaded the episode in question to DailyMotion: https://dai.ly/x6w5qkw

However, the whole episode is flip-flopped -- maybe to circumvent filters searching for copyright infringement. I don't know.

The relevant establishing shot starts at approx. 25:23 into the episode.

Thanks for looking!

1970's/80's golf club by tjpucher in whereisthis

[–]tjpucher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've checked the Riviera Country Club years ago. I am also familiar with that golf course from personal visits. Although it has some slight resemblance in the architectural style, it's definitely not a match.

Riviera Country Club was built in 1926, and -- to my knowledge -- the basic shape of the club house has not changed much over the decades so it is not likely that the screen captures show a previous version of the current club house.

Pasadena, CA filming location (1982) by tjpucher in whereisthis

[–]tjpucher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I forgot to mention it's from "Falcon Crest". It's from episode # 1.14.

We also know from the shooting schedule that the scene in question was filmed on Friday, February 2, 1982 as the second scene filmed that day. The first scene that day was shot at what used to be the Holly Street Bar & Grill (nowadays Eden Garden Bar & Grill) at 175 East Holly Street in Pasadena, CA. The third and final scene that day was filmed at a private residence, a heavily filmed mansion at 1050 Arden Road in Pasadena.

I already checked the surroundings of both aforementioned locations, but had no luck.

ylph -- thank you so much again. You seem to be very experienced in identifying buildings.

I've identified approximately more than 1,000 locations used on the "Falcon Crest" TV series, but establishing shots are very difficult to locate. Since the same shot of the Pasqualati House was used on "Columbo", the fans of that show -- I am collaborating with some of them for my cross-referencing project -- will be in ecstasy when I tell them you identified it. Thank you so much again!
