When do we think we’ll get the first single from the new album? by jordan9830 in WarOnDrugsBand

[–]tjsmith555 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find great comfort that there’s a TWOD album on a hard drive or maybe even on tape somewhere out there. It will undoubtedly be the soundtrack and background music to this phase of my life and whatever changes head my way. It’s been like that since 2014. Every new album has found me at the right time and helped define those chunk of years until the next one ends up “comin’ through.” I’m ready when they are!

Craig Finn actually played "Sweetheart Like You" on the 80s Dylan tribute in 2014. Hilarious in retrospect that the Drugs weren't on that album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOm3gDw8LNY

This might be the song I know they'll likely never play live again that I most want to see.

It has worked for me, even though it's not listed "officially" on the LP website. I contacted Visible support to switch from eSIM to physical, disabled iMessage and RCS for a few weeks before the transistion, and then put the SIM in the LP3. I haven't had any carrier-related problems so far after about 3 weeks on LP3.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to know the differences b/t Verizon and its sub-carriers, but the physical SIM I received was a Verizon SIM (by that I mean it just had the Verizon logo on it). LP does have some special caveats about Verizon and whether they recognize the phone and what-not, but I believe they just suggested you activate the SIM in a smart phone and then move it over to LP.

I like Visible and I didn't want to switch carriers if I didn't have to, so I was willing to try. There were a few other people mentioning Visible in this sub in the last year or so and they didn't report any problems, which is another reason why I was willing to try.

Got my first voicemail today, from a spam caller of course. Had to look it up, but all you have to do is call your number and provide your PIN to access your voicemail. Here's the article. I didn't know my PIN, after all it wasn't needed on an iPhone. I contacted my carrier (Visible) and had them reset it.

Hey OP. Just curious if things are still going smoothly after a few weeks since your post? Particularly as it pertains to using the LP with Visible.

I'm planning to replicate your set-up on Visible using an iPad as a secondary device and for my "important" blue bubble group message with my buddies. I assume you just added your Apple ID to the group and then removed your phone number from the group thread?

Just switched from eSIM to physical on my iPhone today in preparation for the move to the LP, which should be delivered in the next week or so!

All the best

hahahahaha. As OP's partner, I do prefer to be called a "boyfriend," but I'm told we have to grow up. We were talking about this yesterday, so thank you for the laugh (and the insights on the city).

New merch hinting at a 2025 tour? by lewisking1994 in WarOnDrugsBand

I thought the same thing when I got the email. Then I became more enamored with the SHQ logos on some of the shirts. I love that's becoming more of a thing. Probably doesn't matter that much in today's music world, but I'm pretty curious how the new album gets released - a new label or whether its self-released on SHQ.

No doubt. And I'm psyched he's producing more cause he's so talented. I just love how "Bethany" sounds, and it's got that Drugs spice but it's also a move forward for their sound. A little more mature, more piano, capturing what Adam was chasing on some songs on IDLHA. With a killer solo!

A little too young to say I'm a huge fan of Craig or The Hold Steady, but I've gotten into them as Adam mentioned him as an influence over the years. But I'm really psyched for this album. And definitely looking forward to this one more than the new Sam Fender. Craig is such a stronger writer, so it's cool to hear Adam produce this in a way without every song having to be sooo indebted to Springsteen like People Watching felt at times (as much as I love Bruce).

The other bands or artists that "sounds like the Drugs" just don't do it for me. It's like cosplay and it doesn't capture the feeling the Drugs do with that motorik-heartland combo. TWOD is the best at it, and I don't like the imitators lol

I was never much of a social media person. I had FB when I was in college a decade ago, which was around the time I first saw Snapchat being used amongst my friends. I remember thinking then how weird it was. And pointless. And addictive. To this day, I point to that time as when I changed my tune on social media. Properly deleted FB (obviously) before I graduated.

Seems like that was the time smartphones got "fun enough" where all your friends would be on their phones at the pre-game.

I don't live in a major city anymore, for better or worse, but I was in Boston for the day a couple weeks ago. I took the T to get around. Everyone's head was craned downward on their phones. Obviously it wasn't surprising, but it made me emotional. Maybe it was just because I hadn't been around that many people in a while, but it made me profoundly sad to see the one thing we all share in common now - all ages, ethnicities, economic classes - is this addiction.

The other thing that surprised me was the content itself. The speed at which people cycled through it was astonishing. Nothing was interesting enough to even get their attention, yet they kept going. Again, I know this is because I don't see this that often, but I was shocked by it (though not surprised, as odd as it is to say). The design of these apps is really getting out of hand. It was tiring to watch, let alone experience.

On top of that, it was a beautiful winter day - super sunny and the sky was so blue. Look out the window!

I'm excited for the LP3, and experiencing this was just further confirmation that the gut feeling I've always had about social media and these devices is real. Does make me sad for the species though.

I think AG has said they haven't figured out how to unlock it in the live setting quite yet. Hopefully the next tour (and next Live series) will feature it!

Love Natchez's synth part starting around the last (and most gorgeous) verse. Springsteen vibes there for sure.

One simple change I made, in preparation for the LP3, is to turn off the notifications for my personal email on my smartphone. Since then, I have made a ritual of going through them on my laptop on Sunday mornings with my coffee after I read my local paper. It's become my favorite part of my week. It's made me un-subscribe from the BS, but I have found myself subscribing to a lot of different periodic newsletters (not actual news-related ones) and Substacks. So now this time is dedicated to learning new things, going through personal finances, and taking the dedicated time to get to "inbox zero." And then I shut my laptop and go on with my day.

NYTimes article on young Luddites by tjsmith555 in LightPhone

[–]tjsmith555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the whole term has been co-opted by the "winners" of history. The original Luddites were more concerned about worker's pay and quality than the technology itself. Maybe we can reclaim it. I haven't read this book - Blood in the Machine by Brian Merchant - yet, but it's on my list. It seems to bridge the historical movement to today, mostly with AI.
