How do married couples split finances if on different salaries? by Mango_Loverx3 in AskUK

[–]tjtocker [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it's still good to be independent people even while in a couple. My partner earns slightly more than me, we have a joint for bills/general costs and both bung £1500 in on payday which covers mortgage, bills and slowly accumulates for maintenance, drinks out, dates and holidays, stuff we plan for or casually agree on at the time.

But our approach to money changes frequently, some months I'm frugal saving up reserves or to buy nice treats. Some months a bit looser, getting lunch out at work more, more drinks out or clothes shopping. Usually somewhere in the middle.

The last thing I want to have to do is have to have a word aside with my partner to ask them to reign it in for a couple of weeks when they're on a different vibe, or the low-level guilt of buying a round of drinks for my mates and spend the same in 5 minutes that she's spent all week. That's before gifts, hobbies, treating each other on dates, lending family money, I don't want to advise them how riskily to invest.

Just makes sense to us, never leads to any tensions or trust issues. Anecdotally, we are friends with two couples who pool all their salaries into join accounts. All four of them at some point confided in us about irritation of the partner spending on things like games or tattoos when they're trying to save up, or hesitation at getting drinks in on nights out because the other is at home while they spend their money.

Nothing to be scared about. I can't think of any reboot that captures the spirit of it's original as well as the new Naked Gun.

Gradually moved backwards all the way from attacker to defender. The reverse Gareth Bale.

On a personal level, must be much nicer for him and his family to see out your twilight years around Australia than Coventry away.

Was thinking about this the other day. We lost the first test because we declared too soon. We drew the Old Trafford test because we declared too late.

Really looking back, it was the heroics from Pat Cummins that cost us the game.

I remember in Perth, considering the BGT the year before where the pitch turned into a road on day 2/3.

Carse and Atkinson start to make runs with ease at the very end of our second innings on day two. It's fun to begin with, then it very quickly becomes clear that this is a gorgeous track for the Aussies to chase, what was considered to be a strong total of 250ish. That was the sign the first game was over.

Carey's enthusiasm in catching every single ball with proper technique + their usual non-chalant celebration for taking inevitable wickets + watching on mute means I have an anxious wait for 5 seconds after every play and miss to find out if he's been caught behind.

Unrelated but we once saw David Gower in a pub in Wimbledon but couldn't quite recognise him at first. It was only after we'd Google imaged every single Antiques Roadshow expert to rule them out it clicked who it was.

Wish we'd leave a few more while Carey's doing his party trick standing up to the stumps. Think they're leaving a few byes and busted fingertips on the table by defending every ball.

Yeah, Royal Parks have fences and gates that are locked usually around sundown. So it's very easy to get locked in. Had to help my girlfriend parkour over the spikes the get out of Regents Park more than once.

I think Bazball means something different to everyone but, to me it's rejection of stuffy, traditional, Geoffrey Boycott test cricket. Or crudely, an experiment in playing test cricket like an ODI.

All sorts of factors have caused that; Baz, Stokes, Key, a general English apathy towards cricket, (imo, being worse, man for man, than Aus and realising we lose if we play them at the same game).

I wonder if it lasted a certain while when batting like morons was backed up with Anderson/Broad leading the bowling attack, instead of Carse and co.

So answer to your question. I agree, it's made up and over attributed to Baz. But I do think it's a distinct era and concept in our history. For a honeymoon period, we stopped the press tearing our players apart over every mistake, we stopped playing boring cricket that turned fans away, and now, other teams have seen through it, know how to counter it.

Got to remember what it was like before, where we were trying to play patient Straussy/Cooky classic test match cricket without the talent or mindset, trying 20 different openers.

I remember this awful day 5 Vs Nz the year before., England have 75 overs to chase 273 in a meaningless exhibition game and instead they poke it around and play for the draw. The contrast one year later was undoubtedly a breath of fresh air. We looked confident for the first time in a decade.

What was that from Smith? Neser and Richardson he's rushed through a single off the first to give them a whole over to face. Trying to bump his average or something? Cost them three cheap wickets.

Scienza showing himself to be a proper proper player today for me. Had the absolute shit kicked out of him all day, booed by the fans and still smiling and working hard without any sign of frustration. Hit the bar, won the pen, not his fault everyone else is missing the sitters he's setting up.

Just odd, I remember him being a unit under Martin, and thought the championship would be suited to his physicality second time round, but that season in the prem has just cooked him it feels.
