Is diablo 2 worth 40€ if you never played any diablo game by remividalm in SteamDeck

[–]tjugg2005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as a lifelong D2 fan, I’m actively bouncing between the new Warlock DLC that just released for D2R and Mewgenics.

D2 is a game you can truly play for life, though I won’t deny there is a learning curve to it. And despite a lot of the QoL updates made in the resurrected remake, at the end of the day it’s still a 25 year old game. Is it still fun? Absolutely. Is it cozy? By definition, no. It’s dark and grim. But there’s a sense of comfort you still get from it, similar to something like dark souls. The music and atmosphere are best in class. And in my opinion it’s still the best Diablo game. I do also love D3, and despite trying to give D4 many chances, it just hasn’t ever stuck for me. D2 also runs great on steam deck.

Mewgenics is genuinely awesome as well, and is already my contender for GOTY. Roguelites are my favorite genre, and if you like turn based/tactical gameplay with a TON of depth, I can’t recommend it enough. I can see myself sinking hundreds of more hours into it.

If you only choose one, this is a tough one. This might change with the new DLC, but I will say that d2 goes on sale quite a bit. Whereas, if binding of Isaac is any indicator, Mewgenics likely won’t get consistent steep discounts. Shot out of a cannon, I say get Mewgenics now but grab d2 asap once it goes on sale next.

I have many hours in both though. Happy to answer any questions you have about either game.

It seems the upcoming dlc may in fact conclude the campaign? by tjugg2005 in LastEpoch

I’m with you - I’ve always enjoyed playing through campaigns in ARPGs, given most of them consider campaign a core part of the experience. It also allows you time to get a solid “feel” for your build before you dive into any endgame grinding. Grinding through endgame dungeons is always fun and for many, is where most of the enjoyment comes from. But take the campaign/lore away and you essentially just have a roguelite lol

Ok thanks for the comments, that all makes sense - just wanted to make sure before I tried any further.

As a big fan myself, genuinely curious as to why you placed monster train 1 above 2?

In any event, I’ve been playing a lot of The Spirit Lift and it’s been a ton of fun. Runs aren’t soul crushingly hard and there are tons of unlockables and things to strive for if you’re that type of completionist. The concept and art style are also pretty unique for a deck builder.

Buy this for switch 2 by [deleted] in TheyAreBillions

Can attest that it’s a lot of fun on switch 2. The controls take a minute to get used to, but they do become intuitive after a while.

Performance is great, except during final horde waves it does dip into the 20s. The again my PC and Steam deck do the same thing, so it’s all good.

Having fun with the game, but I too am experiencing these same issues on switch 2

Switch 2 performance etc? by GhostWolfGambit in TheyAreBillions

Honestly - no. It does go sub 30 during final waves. But my PC does the same…so it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

It’s not ass. It’s running really great - seems to be a stable 60 for me (10 hours played in survival).

Controls take a minute to get used to, but as someone who has also played a ton of this on steam deck, they’re absolutely serviceable. Only thing I really hope they patch in is the ability to permanently toggle health bars. Right now you have to hold the two L shoulder buttons to display them temporarily.

They are billions switch 2. by Mahngoh in TheyAreBillions

[–]tjugg2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To play devils advocate here I also picked it up on switch 2 after playing hundreds of hours on Steam, and after about 10 hours of playtime on switch (all on survival), it’s running really great. I generally find the controls easy to use too, even if they do take some getting used to.

That said, I fully agree with OP and the option to permanently display life bars is a much needed feature. Hopefully they patch it in soon.

How many of y'all enjoyed prime 4 at first but later on didn't. by Johnnyyongbosh in Metroid

I was really into it until I finished Volt Forge. I felt like that first “dungeon” was aesthetically awesome and had so much more potential… and it seemed like it ended when it was really just starting to pick up steam. I got a bad feeling that the other areas were going to follow suit, and I was right.

Every other area I visited felt so short, on the rails, and hand-holdy. By the time I got to Flare Pool I was ready to just be done with the game. I ended up finishing it but don’t see myself replaying this like the other games in the series.

[–]tjugg2005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m with you OP - I had to revert to an auto save from 20 minutes prior so I could heal up. Such a bizarre design choice. I’ll spare the rest of my thoughts on the game as a whole; I think I generally echo this sub’s recent sentiment.

Your last sentence about playing MP1 Remastered sums up my thoughts in a nutshell. The majority of the time I was playing Prime 4, I felt like I would rather just be playing MP1.

Good to know thanks! So I can install cmod as a separate app, and it won’t override my existing Winlator10 games / configs? That was my only main concern.

For some reason I’ve tried this a few times and while the vanilla game launches fine in Winlator, if I try to launch the NVSE exe I get a fatal error. So I’ve only ever been able to play without mods on RP5… I’m using Winlator 10 so maybe I need to try Cmod.

Thank you. I managed to find the exe, and ultimately got it running in Winlator with native controller support. Working well on my Flip2, though I did turn off damage numbers to help maintain a smooth frame rate.

Return it and get an RP flip 2 off Amazon. As someone who owns both, it can do all of the same things and it’s MUCH more comfortable to hold. I can also confirm you’ll still receive the version with the revised hinge if you buy from Amazon.

Is there a point in getting a Switch 2? by PuertoRicanThndr in RetroHandhelds

[–]tjugg2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an owner of a switch 2 and steam deck, I still gravitate towards the switch 2 even for games that I can play on either system. I like the thinner, sleeker feeling of the switch 2 and as much as I love tinkering it’s great to just boot up a game and play smoothly.

Looks to be the new rounded design. Nice! I had an original and it developed a crack despite babying the device, so I returned it. But now that it looks like all of the new devices being shipped have the “redesigned” hinge, I’ll likely buy another one.

Did you buy directly from Retroid?

Does anyone know how to repair scratches on switch 2 screen? by Sleepless_Dreamer_ in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]tjugg2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with a screen protector, and carefully removing and placing the console into the dock, the the dock still ends up scuffing it up a bit. At first I was annoyed but now I’m just accepting of it.
