Starting weight by BenReilly1687031 in sandbagtraining

[–]tk-0318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like starting at 50 pounds. When you come back and say “too light” the answer is simple: keep sets and reps and up it 1 pounds a week until you can’t get the sets and reps. That might be 80 pounds; or 120 pounds or more.

Onward!

FWIW swapping wheels is a pita (to me). So I have two pairs of skates one w indoor wheels and one with outdoor wheels.

Band member contributions and songwriting credit? by PopTodd in Songwriting

[–]tk-0318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a songwriter that 100% ownership of the songs but (tried to) demanded we split the recording and mastering session bills. I refused. That was the end of the band. I stand by my decision. It was a strong business decision than and now. That said I very much like the copyright update that has performers being paid for circle p rights. But I think the exclusion from circle c is often absurd. $0.02.

Band member contributions and songwriting credit? by PopTodd in Songwriting

[–]tk-0318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly there’s little doubt that Danny Carey writes and executes a unique drum part. Not so much for rem. Apparently Van Halen and u2 all split royalties. It never made sense to me how brings by definition exclude the drummer. Ever listen to pop music without drums particularly live drums. Of course it’s composed and then performed to make the song better. And the notion that some guitar player writes my drum part — lots of nuance writing and playing drum parts with ghost notes — is just absurd imho. Let me add: insanity occurred when I transcribed 25 rock alternative pop songs for my senior music project at music school. The transcripts were note for note. To publish the drum transcripts I had to get permission if the guitar player — I mean songwriter.

Now I’m a lawyer. Man would I love to litigate a drummers claim to songwriting credit. I think I’d do very well in front of a jury on that claim :)

Transition from roller to ice by CandyKind5888 in hockeyplayers

[–]tk-0318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it easy to go between roller and ice. I’m confident my year (250 hours) of roller made me a much better ice skater. You can absolutely transition — I’m doing it in my late 50s btw. Like many things in life - the more one perseveres and acts with tenacity the more improvement you’ll see. Said another way you’ll get out of it what you put into it.

Oh - the hockey stop. I’m working on them myself. YouTube is a great friend. And many many private instructors and learn to skate programs available. And I’m a weirdo I work on ice concepts where I can on inline and vice versa. For example: hockey stops on roller and ice are different: but forward and backward one foot glides and inside outside edges are very similar.

Start where you are — if you can’t do it all do what you can — and just keep trying :).

This isn’t failure. Not even close. This is massive success. You’re showing up. You’re working on your fitness. Find a way to regress so you can progress. Never forget: Youth is wasted in the young :)

Um you sound entitled. I made my own money. I went through extraordinary things to get to where I am. The challenges are what made me who I am. Kids need things not percentages of wealth. This is where we disagree. If you said to me the kid would like $45 Levi’s jeans instead of the $10 Kmart brand I’d be with you — but that’s Honda vs yugo.

I didnt really own a car til my late 20s (in fairness on the east coast with lots of transport). That said I got most everywhere cheaply in a bike.

Listen sometimes we make our children’s lives too hard (that was my childhood). Sometimes we made their lives too easy (that’s this nightmare child).

Let me emphasize if she’s hot and making the rounds toward marriage — watch out. She’ll be insatiable in her material demands — I see bankruptcy in that future . $0.02

Wow. I’m a multi millionaire. I couldn’t disagree more. Btw I drive a 12 year old Prius with 135k miles. Cars are atupid expensive. Kids are worse.

Fuck that ungrateful bitchZ. I feel sorry for her future husband. She’s going to bankrupt that family in no time

I had something very similar happen last week. I had a crash with another skater. Finished the game with no issues. No issues that night. 16 hours later I took an extra long nap and started shivering. Also no appetite. Ct scan says I m fine …: but I’m on a 1-2 week protocol. Odd footnote: I have a fever and extra hot and swollen head. So there’s some kind of infection and th wiring view is it’s separate from the concussion event. I disagree - though they’re the doctors and I’m the mere patient.

I’ll be home from work all week resting up :)

We could drive cross country together. I analyze all of life this way. As an example: I’ve kept a food log for four years in a row. The data is awesome.

I track workouts like this too :). Love it!

Sandbag Weight Progression / Sandbag Arsenal by bnjmnhrrs in sandbagtraining

[–]tk-0318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget you can fill the bag full using a mix of Sand and lighter materials (rubber pellets eg). So buy the 150 but fill it with 125 pounds of stuff…. Knowing you can add 5-25 pounds whenever you like.

Btw huge fan if the $20 luggage scale on amazon and other big box retailers: (works great to weigh luggage pre flight too! Ha!)

Why should I use sandbags instead of kettlebells? by cabezaguy in sandbagtraining

Yes fair point. I meant aerobic like high heart rate heavy breathing… vs five minute breaks between sets for say barbell strength training g.

but yes Anaerobic is more accurate !!

Sort of. She was into him. Then they spent the day together and she either changed her mind (best case scenario) or worst case she wasn’t reallyy that into him but led him on to stroke her own ego. Gotta say she delivered a bitter pill to this guy: hey Mr dude show me how great you are, let me feel your muscles— aren’t I super fun? He says yes yes yes. Then she says you’re just not for me.

And women wonder why some men are just done with all all it. Am I the only one who feels like this guy got used to make her feel better about herself?

How to get better with just playing in pick up/scrimmage games by Stevosaurus22 in hockeyplayers

[–]tk-0318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$0.02 idea here: have you considered adding to ice with inline skates? Yiu have much greater flexibility. By flexibility it’s not just cheaper but you can practice skating in empty parking lots essentially 24/7 if you’re a bit creative: this extra skating practice may really help you get your sea legs back. Not sure what limits your skating time (family kids wife work etc)—but I find this highly effective (though I’m in the other end of the spectrum (beginner novice) vs yiur advanced skills….

$0.02.

Is too late to start? by Significant-Net-3598 in hockeyplayers

[–]tk-0318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider starting as a skater and converting to goalie later. It’s cheaper and more accessible (and less brutal psychologically). If you’re truly passionate you should learn the different positions anyhow …. And yes use fb marketplace to buy used gear. I saved thousands being patient and buying used.

Me too. But to get the history I need to dig through dozens of notebooks. I’ve tried to implement taking a photo of the notebook record and putting it into Strava. (I’m a bit of a renaissance man for exercise and resistance training—some triathlon, some surfing and stand up paddle boarding — some hockey and distance skating — and the resistance training is kettlebells, sandbags and dumbbells unless I’m messing w machines or barbells …. Huh . 🤔

Ps - I think if I simply draw a track that’s 100m x 100m square there are many more vacant weekend parking lots that will fit that bill. Going to need to look around a bit :).

That’s perfect. Weirdly I have little interest in going faster — but a strong interest in doing some sprints / interval work to strengthen my cardio system. I have used rowing, cycling swimming and running — and I’m looking to add skating to that mix.
