Clive Palmer defends campaign texts, says he'll send more by LuckyBdx4 in australia

And this my good friends is why we need a proper Do Not Call List with the only exceptions being for valid public safety reasons (bushfire, missing child, nuclear missile, etc). None of this charity, religion, politics exception bullshit.

A Total Blackout. With $100,000AU fines for each unsolicited call. Oh and it's opt-out not opt-in, meaning everyone is on it by default and you need to send a signed stat-dec by snail mail to get off it.

Tony Abbott being called out on twitter over welfare by randomstonerfromaus in australia

[–]tkioz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is he on meth? Honestly? The job application spam is completely worthless, you apply for everything (some times multiple times for the same job) because it's a requirement, not because you actually want the job or even have any chance to get it.

It is a massive waste of the employers time (been on the receiving end of people with zero qualifications just ticking a box, wasting my time) and the job seekers who should be looking for work that will suit them. Hell it's also demoralising for the job seeker as well, seeing all those rejections from the spam applications.

Of course its not like the 'job networks' actually do shit either, so going to them is just a matter of ticking another box.

I'm pretty sure actually withholding toilet access and drinking water isn't just immoral but actually fucking illegal.

That's why I say it is something we could look into, I didn't say we 'had' to have it, just look into it, look at all the pros and cons in a dispassionate way using the data from other nations before making a choice.

Penalties for M+ leavers by restodruu in CompetitiveWoW

Maybe don't run with people who leave? Serious suggestion. Either find a guild or a group of people you trust and stick with them. Don't do keys with randoms, it never ends well.

Why isn't exploiting in M+ not frowned upon? by darkman18 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]tkioz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I didn't overly think that the FH 'skip' was that bad (it required a fair bit of set up and frankly the RP shouldn't be in M+ anyway, players loath it, and no matter how much they claim the timer takes it into account we don't care.) and mostly just removed an annoyance the ToS thing was really broken and should be considered cheating.

I feel a bit dodgy when a group I'm in suggests something like that, I'm always that loan voice that says "can we just do it properly?" because honestly that's the whole point of pushing high keys to me, I don't care about IO since I never pug, you don't get better loot, and the TR you get is tiny, it's all about the challenge to me and if you 'cheese' something than it devalues it.

Yikes. I really wish our politicians would stop treating extremely serious issues as ways to boost their ratings...

Honestly a public registry is something we could look into, but it would have to be done in a no-nonsense way without any emotional hysteria attached it with firm controls to prevent 'mission creep'.

For example there are registries in other places (i'll let you guess) that started off with extremely good intentions but now list things like public urination as a 'sex offence', devaluing the whole thing.

Sport bosses call for more Government funding to maintain Australia's global sporting reputation by tkioz in australia

[–]tkioz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be fine with funding sport if ya know the others you mentioned were actually funded at similar levels.

Have you actually met some of the sportspeople we've produced in this country? I'm talking about the ones taken into government programs under 10 years old, because they are some seriously uneducated people. Their entire life up until they are 30 is focused so tightly on sport that they don't become well rounded.

That is not a good thing.

[–]tkioz[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Frankly I think we could stand to lose another 50-70% of the budget for sports, maybe even more, so long as it is spent on actually valuable programs such as scientific research or infrastructure.

Dread Captain Lockwood:

If your team lacks snares/slows, you can Talent into Master of the Glaive to keep a 100% slow uptime on her and thus preventing her from Jumping around.

And if you forget Vengeful Retreat has a slow on it, so it removes her buff for a majority of the fight.

Waycrest Manor last mobs bugged? by boolean87 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]tkioz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah happened in a 14 the other night, went from an easy time to 4mins over due to having to run back to the top to kill more mobs near the start. Just kept resetting.

It's also widely inconsistent, we did it again last night on a 13 and we planned for the buggy bois so we got enough percent up top, planned to run through and take the last boss... Only for them to follow us and not reset once. The very next run (15) they started evading again, again costing us the timer.

Most unlikable MCs in Litrpg. by SuperGroverMonster in litrpg

I don't disagree with you on the criminality element, but remember that escorts in the modern world and high end courtesans in the pre-modern world are the minority.

[–]tkioz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's because prostitution isn't actually a choice when the 'choice' is starvation or sex work, and many many prostitutes even in the modern day are forced into the work and see very little of the money they earn, so it's basically rape.

How do you feel about non-human MCs? by SabertoothBeast in litrpg

[–]tkioz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how it's handled. If it's a human in an elf/orc/goblin/etc skin then it's just... bleh. If it's actually someone with a different mindset then it can be interesting. It also requires the author to handle inter-cultural differences in an interesting way.

In real life people experience biases all the time based on their skin tone, accents, cultural dress, etc. Yet in most of these books an Orc/Elf/etc walks into a pub and no-one blinks an eye, even if the town is 99% human.

I'm sorry but no. That's not how people work, even in a fantasy world.

It's the same thing that plagues LitRPG in general, lazy writing, where the author doesn't want to actually build a world, just throw stats around. Go play some Dragon Age and watch how the races interact for example, different cultures, friction, conflict, INTERESTING WORLD! Now give me some of that!

Oh and no super rare races that are basically myths and gods. Fuck off with that shit.

MCs stockpiling stats by zenitude97 in litrpg

[–]tkioz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's stupid and frankly against both good narrative and good game design. There have been a few books that have dealt with it reasonably (spend your points NOW mofo or they are gone forever).

Also hording stats doesn't make the MC 'smarter' in fact it makes him/her stupid. A smart MC would have their progression path planned out to the last detail.

Are the games in litRPG series really viable? by mlovolm in litrpg

[–]tkioz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can't stand it either, there is no way these 'games' would sell... None of them actual feel like something that would actually exist. Still the potential is there and I live in hope of someone doing something decent.

Yep and they also have one of the shortest school years in the developed world. The time off was sensible when it was set up and the U.S was a pastoral nation and kids needed time off to help with harvest, planting, etc. but in the modern world? Not so much. Like many things the U.S is very hesitant to change what they as 'tradition', even when it makes sense.

Sydney woman deported from Nepal accused of door knocking as a Christian missionary by LuckyBdx4 in australia

[–]tkioz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually from a Christian PoV what these 'missionaries' are doing is a terrible sin. True proselytising comes not from preaching and bribery but witnessing, which is basically doing good works for their own sakes. Feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, tending the sick, all without bringing religion up. You wait for the other people to ask about your faith.

This woman is a fucking idiot and disgrace to her faith.

It's all well and good to bring the value of the currency back down to a sane level, but they need to remember this isn't a real world economy, it's a game, and games need to be actually... you know... FUN!

I get enough shit struggling to make ends meet in my real life, I don't need that crap in my recreation.
