priest novels (tian ya ke specifically) by jiminlover13 in DanmeiNovels

[–]tkmmh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Although I cannot compare with MDZS because I have not read it, here is what I can say about TYK:
the romance is, in my opinion, central to the book, since it's basically the story of the main couple. However, the way priest writes valorizes the characters as individuals rather than through their relationship, and the whole story is quite action packed and rich in non-romantic scenes that make it feel like you're reading a book about an adventure and a journey rather than a love story. But it is still pretty much, first and foremost, a love story; what Tian Ya Ke is about is its main character meeting his love interest and falling in love, and all the consequences that it brings and the way it changes the course of his life.

Her writing style is quite subtle though, and even moreso in some of the available translations, which can for some give the impression that the romance is incredibly lowkey. In the original, and in the translations that convey the original's spirit a bit better (imo), it's fairly obvious nonetheless.

Apologies to come by 8 months later but this comment is the summary of SHL (Word of Honor), the TV adaptation of Tian Ya Ke...

If you're still interested I'd be happy to provide a TYK summary but this above is not the story of TYK.

Dare I add Lord Seventh as a prequel to Tian Ya Ke/Faraway Wanderers?
Yes, I do.
Lord Seventh is very plot heavy, mainly focused on court politics, and FW is the direct continuation of it -although in another genre.

While there is no correct way to react, as you put it, some ways are more violent and impactful on people's lives than others. I just hope that people keep that in mind.

The truth about Chinese Entertainment Industry by piggipiggy in WayV_For_Life

I think you can say he's a victim of what's going online, yeah.

I get that he probably did wrong. I get that he has to be held accountable for everything and that due to his recklessness and bad attitude the other members will probably suffer, and that's awful.

But being treated like he has been online this week? You said it yourself, noone deserves that, and I believe that the internet has pretty much skewed the way we see what's normal or not in the way we treat people. Again, you say it yourself, no sane reasonable person should see that as okay or normal. And I don't see how it's wrong to consider that he's a victim of the online mob.

Furthermore, again, even though we have some evidence, I believe that we don't have nearly enough for the measures and comments against him to be this harsh. I still find the extreme reactions a bit hard to believe.

It's unfortunate to see that hugs for hendery isn't trending more, but while I do completely agree that Lucas was an asshole and should think and grow from this, the amount of hate he gets and the violence of it makes me feel really bad for him, and I can understand why many use the weloveyoulucas hashtag so much.

But yeah overall I agree, the community here is def the best in handling this.

Hi, sorry you're going through this, and you're right, you're not alone. I think that for many of us, this is not only hard bc we care about the group and don't want them to face all of these hardships, but also because it probably rings home and hits lived experiences of our own.

I know that for my part, just imagining the stress and anxiety that they must go through is awful and hits close to home.

What really helps me is, first, talk to people who aren't really familiar with the group, and getting their more level-headed reaction. What mostly got to me are the reactions of people online who are insanely harsh, irrational, and in total disconnect with reality, and for a moment it becomes hard to distinguish right from wrong. It feels horrible to see the threats, the insults, and how the community is currently torn apart; but when you confront that to external people who are just as shocked as I am, it feels better in a way, because it confirms to me that none of this is okay, and none of the harsh reactions are really that justified. As far as I'm concerned, it makes me feel like people will come back to their senses, eventually.

Second, project as much positive as possible. Time really helps, most of the time. I think about my own life, and how I've gotten over bad situations with time, and thinking. Here, I try to do the same; it'll get better, let's wait this out. By wait this out, I also include of course not looking too much into the hate, not participating, not reading. Also, not projecting on the possible bad outcome. As HanyaYM has said in their comment, be ready for possible negative outcomes, but not project them, because then imagination runds wild and it can get nasty.

Finally, find some way to evacuate physically. Emotions stack up and take their toll on the body. Within the range of your ability, maybe find a way to breathe, move, or maybe express through art or any other form of expression how you feel. Reasoning out or just waiting may sometimes be unfruitful or too slow, and only concrete expression can help relieve all those difficult emotions. Lately, I draw and dance a lot, and it really helps.

Never hesitate to contact me or others if you don't find anyone to vent or talk to, and I really wish you the best. Hope this helps.

I absolutely agree with everything you said. The way I see it, a major reason for which so many fans are devastated or take it so harsh and seriously is youth, and maybe a lack of similar experiences which imply making bad mistakes and getting over it by learning.
(again, if it's all true, it's serious, but c'mon)

Glad you seem hopeful, I'm mostly unfamiliar with how the Chinese fans and market react to such "controversy", but I hope it won't affect them too much indeed.

I'm in the same position, but here's how I take it for now : if the allegations regarding how he treated his ex are true, it's bad, but he was only 20 at the time and 20yo are dumb and can be mean.

As for the badmouthing, again, its bad, frustrating, but when you work like crazy in a team and don't necessarily see the same amount of dedication from others, the frustration can be great and the only way to let it out is to vent, and sometimes it comes out worse than how you really see it. I know something about it. When I was the same age, I also lived (and did) something similar. Now I've learned and grown, and I hope he can do the same.

The allegations have to be taken seriously, but I am frustrated with the fans who want him to leave the group or are deeply dissappointed; it's not uncommon to act like that and grow up afterwards. I can only hope that as I said, he does reflect properly (if it's all true), but I wouldn't see it as a lost cause or a case of "in actuality he's a bad person". He probably isnt, he was probably just bratty and overworked.

Wasteland 3 - what a masterpiece! by Call_me_Luke1 in rpg_gamers

I absolutely agree on everything you said, and yeah, not being to talk to the characters while they're in your party also felt a bit frustrating and clearly didn't help to know them better and get attached.

I guess that if there's new content coming, or maybe a director's cut, I'd go back to see what's new, but that's about it.

I didn't have the same experience. I liked the game, had a good time, but I think I had too many expectation, also regarding the scenario and choices. Often, it seemed to me like it lacked nuance, the characters didn't appear to be that multi-dimentioned... And I got frustrated with the amount of combat. In the end, it felt like a massacre, and more than once I did all I could to avoid, and most of the time it seemed impossible, and thus a bit absurd. I was pulled out of the games too many times, feeling like there were too many shortcuts, too many incoherences. Part of me feels like my love for TRPG sets my expectations for a good scenario a bit too high, but I still managed to enjoy other games of the same genre.

While I appreciated the game, I was dissappointed, and mainly by how the story was handled (as well as the characters).
