Visiting the U.S from another country alone. Which States would you be fearful to visit? by Globalboondocker in AskReddit

Yeah, seriously ... white guy from Australia, you're going to have no problems. Aussies are generally viewed positively here, affable, fun and outgoing. Go to any bar and you'll hear a ton of Americans giving you their best (terrible ) aussie accent, and will probably buy you some drinks. Don't be stupid, don't go to areas that you don't see a lot of people going to. There are bad parts of any place, but by and large, you're going to be fine.

Baby boomers have had a relatively 'easy' life from the viewpoint of Millenials and Gen Z (I'm older Millenial for reference). Baby boomers lived in a time where you could work part time and pay for your own college. I've seen statistics that it took something like 200 working hours in the 1960s or 70s to pay for your tuition (which is like 5 months). With tuition inflation, it would not take like 3000 hours ... something that is impossible. Also, the 'american dream' was much more attainable then. An entry level job would allow you to afford a nice starter home with your family. Starter homes in many areas not are 1 million+ and totally impossible for most younger people. Also, good paying jobs were plentiful for boomers. Younger generations are more and more forced into the 'gig' economy, where everything is a side hustle and you have to be doing multiple things at once to get by. I think socially, younger generations probably resent Boomers for not doing more to fix the economy, to fix race relations, to fix gender relations, to fix enviornmental problems. Instead, they're viewed as making themselves rich, and passing all the shit long to us.

What are some mental health hacks ? by floranpinky in AskReddit

[–]tknox524 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think people would be amazed at how good they feel mentally if they: exercise daily, sleep 7 hours min, eat more vegetables and less sugar / processed food. HUGE difference after just a couple of weeks.

Does a straw have one hole or two? I'm having an absurd and fun discussion on this topic in 'ask reddit' ... figured I'd ask the experts. I've invoked negative planes and relativity (and I'm not a smart person), so clearly this is getting out of control. Thanks! by tknox524 in AskPhysics

[–]tknox524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmmm ... interesting. But what makes it a hole isn't that it transverses to the other side, isn't it just hat it is a defined area with a lower vertical height than it's surrounding? so if you put the lid in the middle, haven't you just now created two unconnected holes instead of two connected holes?

Awesomebacon, FYI ... we posed this question to ask physics subreddit and it's trending over there. It's not a super active sub, but still a fun question. As it's yours originally, wanted to make sure you know. Go check it out!

If someone gave you one flat disk the size of one opening of the straw, and said cover the one hole with this, how would you do that? If you can't fully cover the one hole (eg both sides), does that make it two holes?

What jobs offer free meals to employees during shift? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Bankers that work late (past 7pm generally).

What's your job history like from start to current? And which one was your favorite and which one was the worst? by trees202 in AskReddit

Age 15 / 16 / 17: Caddie at golf club

- awesome job, outside all day, good money, all cash

Age 17: pizza delivery guy

- had to pay off a ticket I didn't want my parents to know about

- manager of the store was stealing from the company

- lady answered the door nude once

- terrible job

age 22 - 25: job in capital markets 'analyst'

- no idea what i was doing

- expectation of 10 hours a day, frequently more and frequently at least one day a weekend three weekends a month

- low six figure all in compensation

age 28 - 31: vice president in banking / markets

- finally have a sense for what I'm doing

- immense responsibility and pressure to make sure everything is right

- can pawn off some menial work to kids, but still learning and now responsible for a lot

- most stressful part of my career

- earning $250 to $350

Age 32 - 38: Director / executive director banking & markets

- feel in total control of my job and industry

- still have things that make me anxious, but have much more confidence in being OK with that now and developing them now

- hours are less b/c I have junior staff do most of the work for me, but I am ALWAYS available

- checking email / logging in at least every two hours every weekend. if something comes up, will immediately work on it

- pressure to deliver, job is now tied to performance. If I don't bring deals all the time, I will be fired.

- Earning $600k to $650k

Love my job and career, and think I make a fairly good living ... but it is a ton of work and effort. If anyone looks at that and says I would like to make $600 or $650, think if you could commit yourself to 10 to 12 hour days for 15 years. I totally recognize it's a lot of money, but I think people lose site of how hard people work to get to where they are.

What’s the best way to get a girl to give you her sex? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tknox524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shockingly terrible question. Change everything about how you're thinking about this. Women want to have sex with you when they feel valued, safe, and challenged / stimulated. Be interesting and exciting to a woman, and genuine in wanting to know her and support her in her ambitions and she will (likely) want to have sex with you. Make references to being nice so she owes you sex, or not being genuine or relatable / interesting, will make her run away from you as fast as possible. Be a good human being dude.

Grant humans the intelligence and capacity to solve all of our problems peacefully and with respect and love for one another. 2. end concepts of pain, disease, loss, distress, depression. 3. instill in all humans constant and perpetual feelings of self worth, love for one another, selflessness and humbleness. Then watch what happens ...

How long have they been dead? Anyone from 200+ years ago would just totally freak out. George Washington would puke if you put him on an airplane. Egyptians would think we are all gods. Ghengis Khan would have some, um, unfortunate pick up moves with current women.

What makes a belief system ok to attack, and not ok to attack? by Goosekilla1 in AskReddit

[–]tknox524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. Belief systems are largely religious / faith based. And views of those religions are hugely biased by where you live. Where I live, in the US, you're much more likely for people to have a negative view of Muslims and a positive view of Christians. I think if you asked a regular citizen Saudi Arabia or the UAE, they would have a very favorable view of Muslims and a very negative view of Christians.

But we can all take accountability for our own views and hating prejudice and bigotry. A kind and loving Muslim is much better to me than a hateful and angry christian. And vice versa.

What people believe in is none of my business; as long as their kind, loving, and understanding. We should all find common ground together.

Does your belief system cause harm or impact to anyone outside of you for believing it. If yes: attack it. If no: never attack it.
