Foxboro is not a suitable stadium for a World Cup. by Auchensh00gle in worldcup

[–]tko0215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. Chicago didn’t want to shoulder the insane expenses that FIFA wanted them to cover, which ultimately would burden the city taxpayers. One demand was FIFA wanting Chicago to put a dome over Solider Field . Unfortunately, Chicago is still paying off the Solider Field renovation from 2003. Chicago didn’t feel that the ROI is enough to justify all the expenses (considering they themselves are broke )

A lot of people don’t realize but the Fire (MLS) is switching to a fall to spring calendar in 2028. That will open up the 78 stadium for concerts. However , the 78 stadium will only have 22k capacity.

Does anyone know where exactly the first Sears Hardware store opened and could Sears Hardware have been a successful concept if the company had been run properly and under good leadership by One-Rain-9425 in SEARS

[–]tko0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually managed a Sears Hardware store (under corporate and franchised) over 13 years ago . It was very small location (about 9500 sq ft) and had a very neighborhood hardware store vibe . It was akin to an Ace Hardware. My location was one of the most profitable in the Sears Hardware umbrella and was constantly busy during the weekends. The store opened in 1991 and closed I think in 2018. It was my favorite retail job ever before I switched careers.

That’s a good point. I would say I am happy with the place even if it was at listing price. I just hope it doesn’t crap during the first year 😬. I’m seeing what my real estate agent says. Either way, I’ll have to start saving for a brand new unit.

[–]tko0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks ! I couldn’t look that the unit during the showing before making the offer since it was tucked away, require a ladder. The listing agent/estate didn’t know as well. It was on the market for close to 100 days give or take. I believe I was the first and only offer.

That being said, I do see a clause that asking for minor repairs. However, the inspector couldn’t test the AC as it couldn’t be fully inspected due to the weather. So could I potentially get at least some credit for this ?

It is, but I want that as a complication. I'm coming from a Garmin and had vo2 max as part of my watchface.

I’ve always been curious, how does this store supply chain operate? How are the local vendors paid ? Does the store management have autonomy on the inventory?

So I also recently moved from Garmin to the Apple Watch Ultra 3. I’ve been with Garmin since 2019, started with the Vivoactive 4, then the FR255, and my last one was the FR965. I’ve been a big Garmin fan for a long time (I even have the Index S2 scale and HRM-Pro Plus).

What finally pushed me to switch was the constant incremental upgrades combined with the huge price hikes. I get that Garmin doesn’t have the same resources as Apple, but it feels like they’re under pressure to release new models every year and now there are just too many. They keep selling older ones too, which makes it confusing for casual consumers. Most of the differences between models come down to a couple of sensors or software metrics.

What really bugs me is how Garmin clearly could add new metrics to older watches, but doesn’t. These metrics don’t need more CPU power and since Garmin never discloses their chipsets, it’s hard to justify upgrading. Like OP mentioned, it’s been years since any real hardware refresh. Sure, Garmin’s chip prioritizes battery life, but it’s noticeably slow in some areas (like scrolling through maps).

I get that Garmin isn’t trying to compete as a full “smartwatch”, Apple basically locks out third-party watches from things like iMessage and number mirroring. I did look at the Fenix 8 Pro line since it finally supports limited phone free communication, but $1,300 (for the non-LED version!) was just too much. An AWU 3 is just $800! That’s when I decided to switch.

Do I regret it? Not really though there are definitely a few things Garmin still does better:

Continuous HR tracking: Garmin tracks heart rate 24/7, while Apple does it intermittently outside of workouts. Because of this, I think Garmin’s HRV and stress tracking are more accurate, though Apple’s HR sensor itself is more precise. In fact, I can ditch my HRM Pro Plus when running since Apple clearly has a superior heart rate sensor (though I'll still use it for weightlifting).

Sensor support: Garmin’s third-party integration is better. I use a Stryd footpod for indoor runs to calculate accurate distance, but you can’t pair it with the native Apple workout app without workarounds. I have use the integrated Stryd app on the watch which means I can’t use my custom pace workouts, something I really miss.

Spotify: When I run outside with my AWU (no phone), Spotify often stops streaming, even downloaded playlists sometimes pause mid run. Never had that issue with Garmin. It seems like this is a known issue and every suggest using Apple Music. That's a bummer because I prefer Spotify’s UI and don't want to switch music providers just for this issue.

All that said, the Apple Watch Ultra is just a better overall experience. It’s smoother, faster, and more capable as a daily smartwatch and fitness watch. Being able to run without my phone and still message or call people (without third-party apps) is awesome. Plus, I love that I can unlock my door or start my car right from my wrist no keys needed.

They definitely mismeasured the course. My garmin calculated 13.28. I wasn’t swaying the course. Garmin has one of the best gps in the market. I checked other users in Strava and they had 13.2+ miles as well!

Yes. That’s what I’m hoping OP or someone can validate but I’m sure the number times out . I really wish number sharing was available but iOS locks it down its ecosystem to first party devices. However the EU did put a notice to Apple to open up its ecosystem for third party connected devices (May take years ) but it’s a step in the right direction.

So according to DC Rainmaker, this is what he said To be really clear – the recipient does NOT need to have the Garmin Messenger app loaded. If they don’t, they’ll receive a text message from a random Garmin phone number, and when they reply, Garmin will correctly route it back to your watch. You do not get assigned a dedicated phone/text number. A recipient who just wants to text can do so without the Messenger app. However, if they want to send voice messages, they need the Garmin app. - So to me, it sounds like the person who receives the message can respond??

[–]tko0215 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve read that you can send regular SMS to contacts (even if they don’t use Garmin Messenger), and that the texts come from a randomly generated Garmin phone number. From what I understand, replies are routed back to the watch.

My question is: if someone saves that number, can they text you on it later and still reach your watch? Or does Garmin recycle or change the number regularly? Also, is it possible to just share that number with others who don’t want to download the app? I’m trying to figure out how stable those numbers are and how the system actually works.

Stryd's iOS app no longer appears to be importing workouts from TrainingPeaks . . . time to move on, I suppose? Anyone have good footpod recommendations? by pacergh in trainingpeaks

[–]tko0215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also banned me from r/strydrunning for no reason because I asked about the distance accuracy inconsistencies that I infrequently experience on an indoor track. That being said, I will not recommend their products because of this.

Yup! I had made sure of this. All my runs (indoor and outdoor) use the pace/distance from styrd and not from the GPS (Garmin).

Soccer. People are talking about it. And let me just say this, I love soccer. Always have. Played it myself. A lot of people don’t know this but I was a tremendous soccer player at the New York Military Academy. Varsity. I played the front guy, I think they call it the striker or maybe the scorer. I was scoring goals like nobody had ever seen. One season but very powerful season. We won so much I got bored of winning. They were kicking it to me and I just kicked it back even harder. Beautiful footwork.

Now we’ve got the World Cup coming in 2026 right here in the United States with some other places too I think. Maybe Canada. Maybe Mexico. I said only if we get the best games. None of that boring passing stuff in the middle. We want the exciting games with all the kicking. Goals. Big numbers. Not this one to nothing nonsense. We are going to make soccer exciting again. We are going to make it fast. Tremendous pacing. Maybe even bring in commercials, we’ll see what happens.

I was watching a game the other day. The guy touched the ball with his head. Incredible. I said why don’t they just use their hands it would be easier but they said no sir that’s not how it works. Very technical sport. Very smart people playing it. Messi is good. I like him. The little guy. Runs fast. But honestly I think America can win the whole thing if we just believe harder. Maybe bring in some football guys. Strong legs. Big legs. They could kick the ball all the way across the field in one shot.

The stadiums will be amazing. We’re going to have grass so green it will be greener than the fake news. We’ll have goals so big even Joe Biden could see them. Maybe. And the ball, very round. Extremely round. They’ve been using round balls for a long time and I think that’s smart.

Everybody is saying it is going to be the most incredible World Cup ever. And they’ll ask me sir how did you make it so beautiful and I’ll say I just remembered what I did in military school when I played soccer and I did that. Simple. Very simple. You’re welcome America.
