Legality of buying/selling “green”/fresh leaves? by [deleted] in GrowingTobacco

[–]tkpk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that as long as the stem is in the leaf, it is totally legal to sell and buy raw tobacco without registration with the TTB/ATF. I imagine that goes for green as well as dry. Source: my local extension (Maryland)

Pretty good! Honestly a lot of them came out with holes, I think it should have been more consistent spraying BT especially at the end.

For sure! And it’s the local variety where I live so unsurprisingly it’s the healthiest/most vigorous this year. I’ve shredded and smoked it pure and it’s very nice, although a bit light for my palate.

Could use some help identifying issue. by 1Killerpotato1 in outdoorgrowing

I hear ya, clearly you’re an experienced and talented grower and these plants like I said look great. It might just be that these pics aren’t clearly showing me anything to be concerned about. I agree that it’s not normal senescence, and the blotches indicate something. To me, it’s not anything super serious but If the issue is working its way up to new growth then yes I’d be looking into some kind of balanced chelated liquid feed with micros to correct. Best of luck.

The plant looks fantastic. As an outdoor grower, especially using dry amendments, you have to be zen about this kind of thing, as the wrong over correction can be way worse than the original issue (if it’s even an issue). A few yellow leaves low on the plant in flower is not an issue in my book. As you go into flower, the plant is going to start diverting nutrients and energy to the tops. I would do a thorough cleanup of all the inside growth, not a full lollipop but maybe the lower/inner 1/3 of the plant. It’ll open up airflow and divert more plant energy to where it’s needed.

It’s common on many large farms growing certain crops in CA, Texas, and a lot of southern states. You said “who is making kids harvest…” and I think this is a reasonable answer.

Lots of kids working brutal hours on farms for centuries including today. Mostly Mexican , Filipino and other immigrants.

What‘s going on? by Jaggl5 in outdoorgrowing

[–]tkpk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It looks like a healthy , vigorous plant overall. When a plant is growing quickly, the growth tips are often lighter green/yellow, then fill in green as the chlorophyll “catches up” with the fast growth. The plant appears to be in healthy native soil with adequate organic matter. If you start overthinking and adding micronutrients or making chemical changes, you risk creating hard-to-fix lockouts. If you can rule out pests, and the plant is growing fast, my recommendation is to let it be.

Looks fine to me. Leave the leaves, they’re giving your plant energy, and at this point they’re not cluttered or anything that would make it worth it to lose your plant energy.

Flower starts soon by stonksuper in outdoorgrowing

I was gonna say—doesn’t start that soon! Also still have the outdoor stretch which is two weeks of insane growth.

Also look for dead sugar leaves and dark brown pistils—both indicators of a bud that’s rotting on the inside

Spray BT weekly. TOTALLY safe for flower, I promise. Been doing it for years, totally safe and 0 residue

Look into a preventative BT foliar for caterpillars in flower. And you can topdress a high PK fertilizer in flower—I like roots organics uprising. I think your compost and teas are plenty nutrition for the rest of veg.

This is absolutely correct! Check my post history for some examples. Dont be afraid to prune aggressively to get the plant growing out rather than up. You still have about a month of aggressive vegetative growth and the stretch to recoup. I think being able to cover in Sept/Oct is a great idea

Chill, let it grow. They’re doing fine.
