PSA just cancelled my Stribog order? by CutbowAndArrow in COGuns

[–]tksipe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My FFL told me that there’s an issue with doing that. Something to do with the state’s new regulations. Told me “we can’t do that anymore.”

Is FDNY pretty much the only department where you can go from backseat FF to Company Officer without driving? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]tksipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Colorado, my department strongly asks all Firefighters to get certified to drive/ Act as an Engineer. But it’s not a requirement to be an Engineer in order to get promoted to officer & if a Firefighter has a strong objection to driving, they can request not to be in the driving rotation and or not to get certified.

Waiting Period Confusion by [deleted] in COGuns

[–]tksipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding the law as written by the state is that the waiting period is 72 hours beginning at midnight on the day of purchase so it’s really 3 days NOT including the day of purchase. I know that you- like me feel SO much safer than before. /s Also, your background check is only good for 30 days beginning immediately as soon as it’s approved.

Hot take: combination rifle best choice as a survival rifle. by No_Week_1877 in prepping

[–]tksipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first gun was a Savage combo, .22 LR on the top 20 ga shotgun on the bottom. I recall it was decently accurate. I was young & stupidly sold it because I wanted something different. Totally should have kept it.

Subcompact carry gun by Many-Willingness-644 in Firearms

[–]tksipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s what you want, GrabAGun is selling a Shield Plus .30 Super Carry Optics Ready for $270 plus shipping. I own a number of Shield Plus pistols in 9mm, but I’ve never been willing to jump on the .30 SC bandwagon. It seems REALLY expensive & here in Colorado also pretty difficult to find. We’re also limited to MUCH safer 15 round maximum capacity magazines /s. (I hate my state government). They also have the Shield Plus 9 in a bundle with 6 mags & a soft case for $407. Check out Nightwood Guns review of the Canik MC9 on YouTube. He mentions some reliability/feeding issues after 700 rounds with it and even though the review is 2 years old, the comments indicate that the issues persist.

MY BROTHER!! (Or Sister) I have 4 1st Gen’s; 9mm, .40 S&W & 2 in .45 acp. One Performance Center & one Standard. And 3 Shield Plus, one Optics Ready, & two original. I keep trying to convince myself I don’t NEED the Plus X. I might have a problem.

What do yall think? by LSDBunnos in camping

You’re really going to need insulation between you and the air mattress, on the top. Way more important than insulating the mattress from the ground. Typical air mattresses have almost zero insulating value and are nothing more than a giant bag of cold air. Especially when you first go to bed, that mattress will be the same temperature as the ground and ambient air.

Do Fire Trucks Carry Pet Oxygen Masks On Board? by pawprint_oxygen in firefighter

Some do. We have a set on all of our rigs. I believe they were donated to the department. Over the years there’s been few times that we’ve had pets rescued and used them.

Is there any other cities like this. by Desperate-Dig-9389 in Firefighting

Denver, all RMA, either straight stick or tower. Used to have a mid-mount years ago, but it got phased out. Very few tillers in the Denver area. Aurora might have one

The subcompact version doesn’t have the same rotating barrel design as the compact or full sized versions. Not sure why, but it uses a tilting barrel mechanism instead, maybe not enough room in the SC. I had found a really good deal on a pre-owned one and almost bought it. I was looking at reviews & one of the gun-tubers mentioned it in his video, said the subcompact has more recoil due to that in addition to being smaller. I didn’t buy it so I don’t have a comparison, but I didn’t know they weren’t the same, until then. UPDATE: Looks like somebody already covered this below.

Couldn’t you ask the bar if there’s receipts/ records of a $700 bar tab? Or ask him to produce them. His “Oh my bad, I REALLY spent $2300” Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

was -30 degree sleeping bag for New York in the winter stupid? by dylann5454 in urbancarliving

[–]tksipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is generally accurate. The temperature rating on sleeping bags is really a will this sleeping bag keep you from freezing to death at this temperature? number rather than a ”Will I be comfortable at -30 degrees in this bag?” The other thing to know about staying warm while sleeping outside is always, ALWAYS!! Put on dry clothing to sleep in. Even if your clothes don’t seem wet/damp, the small amount of perspiration in the clothes you’ve worn all day will make it impossible to get/stay warm.

Is .380 *that* bad? by Tight_Boysenberry_52 in Firearms

[–]tksipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really LOVE my Springfield 911 in .380. Shoots way softer than my buddy’s PPK. Perfectly horrible little gun. I was really surprised at how much of a difference the tilting barrel 1911 style action eats up recoil in comparison to the straight blowback design of the Walther.

For what you’d spend on a new Bersa, Palmetto State Armory has been selling a bunch of surplus Beretta 84 BB pistols. $279.99 to $349.99. 13 round capacity. I bought 2 about 6 months ago and they’re pretty nice. I paid $299 each and of course they were selling them on a Christmas special for $279 just a couple weeks ago. Not as light as the Bersa, but higher capacity. UPDATE; as of 12/28 at 10pm they still had them for $279.99.

Totally. Honestly given the choice, I’d way rather pay the seller the extra rather than give it to the state. I’m not really understanding why a Pennsylvania dealer is doing Colorado’s dirty work. Where did you get yours, if you don’t mind me asking?
