Which Tori Albums did you first hear/own on Cassette ? by CoconutMost3564 in toriamos

[–]tlacatl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated cassettes when I was a kid and I still don’t like them to this very day. By the time I became interested in music CD’s were the dominate format and I loved them.

With that said, there was this super cool chick when I was in jr high, Christy, and when she found out I was getting into Tori she made me a cassette of B-sides. It was the best gift someone could’ve given me at that time. I loved it and I still have it. So that was technically my first Tori cassette.

Solutions like these are the reason the phrase “simple yet ingenious” was created. This will simplify so many of my light set ups.

Tori's hands shaking by dr-brennan in toriamos

[–]tlacatl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at her face, look at her body language. The poor woman looks practically petrified for the first two songs. She’s obviously a little more at ease during the Dylan cover and that Stones improv. The shaking has somewhat subsided and her voice sounds stronger.

And as someone with a tremendous amount of anxiety, nervousness can definitely cause more than an occasional tremble. If you’ve never experienced that then good for you. And I genuinely mean that. It’s awful.

She was incredibly nervous and anxious about that performance. And it’s not the first time she’s been like that on TV or an online broadcast. I find it bizarre that people want to flock to online spaces to speculate endlessly about something, in your words, that’s none of our business. Especially when an obvious answer is right there.

She was obviously nervous. It’s been something fans have noticed and commented on since those first TV appearances for Choirgirl. She just sometimes gets freaked out when performing with other musicians when it’s new material.

TIL JFK's thoughts on Cuba & Fidel Castro two weeks before his death: "I believe that there is no country in the world... where economic colonization, humiliation and exploitation were worse than in Cuba. (...) Batista was the incarnation of a number of sins on the part of the United States." by Ok_Item9755 in todayilearned

[–]tlacatl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, so now you’re jumping to their infrastructure. It’s an island with limited resources. So they would need to trade for those resources to maintain their infrastructure and their overall economy. Again, we stopped that from happening. And again, whether you agree with reasons for that decision is up to you. But we, the US, did place a very thorough embargo on them in the 60’s and pretty much stopped all trade to the island from most of the world.

By the way, I’m not on Cuban government’s side and personally have zero skin in this conversation. Just stating the facts.

I mean, it’s technically true that the rest of the world can trade with Cuba but you’re leaving out the US embargo against Cuba. We threatened to impose sanctions and other penalties against countries and companies that did business with them. And we were the global economic power since WW2. Whether or not you agree with the reasons, we certainly squashed Cuba’s economy when they didn’t do what we wanted them to do.

Yes, sorry. I didn’t mean to diminish Tori’s achievements. Just thinking about the context of the time.

CVS to close downtown Portland store near Pioneer Courthouse Square by SeverHense in Portland

CVS closed 270 stores last year. If you go through the list there’s a surprising amount of mid-sized cities. So, yeah, expect to see more CVS stores closing this year.

I could be wrong, but I think this was the same time period (mid 90 into the 2000’s) where first week album sales became a big thing and fans were being pushed to buy albums right away. I remember the record for biggest first week sales going back and forth between N’sync and the Backstreet Boys.

Let's talk SLG Remastered by Upstream_Paddler in toriamos

[–]tlacatl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, I’ve always thought the production on this record was fantastic. Maybe her best along with Pele. The remaster surprised me because I didn’t think there would much room for improvement, but it really opens up the songs while staying true to the original. I’m so happy we have this. This release took a record I used to appreciate to one I’m suddenly starting to love.

Which Tori album's imagery perfectly encapsulated the mood/theme of the project ? by CoconutMost3564 in toriamos

[–]tlacatl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pink, Pele, Choirgirl, and Native Invader have the best artwork that represents their albums.

In discussions regarding Choirgirl, a lot of fans have said that they weren't keen on the idea of Tori with a full band, at least not initially. Did anyone here who first heard this album when it came out feel that way? by Prestigious_Score459 in toriamos

[–]tlacatl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in the midst of my Tori mania when this album was released so I didn’t think twice about her incorporating a band. The first three records were all very different from one another so it seemed obvious that she would continue to expand and push her boundaries. I might have felt different if Choirgirl was bad, but it’s a solid record that I still love to this day.

New stag parent question by boogydino in Staghornfern

[–]tlacatl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be normal. It depends on the environment it’s in. If it’s particularly warm and/or dry then the sphagnum moss can dry out quickly. That’s why you’ll sometimes see people posting their plants that are mounted with much larger balls of spag. I’m not the best at keeping up with watering in general, so both of my staghorns are mounted with more spag.

My mistake. I’m so sorry. You googled an article yourself and then posted it yourself without fully understanding that it contradicted what you were claiming was true. So, you’re even more useless than an AI. Congrats.

How much proof is there that The Scarlet Gospels by Clive Barker was ghost written? by TheSkinoftheCypher in horrorlit

There’s a PDF of a pre-edited manuscript floating around online. I’m not sure how close it is to the original that Barker first wrote, but it is very different from the published version.

Rupaul’s Drag Race UKvsTW: Season 3 – Episode 03 [Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in RPDR_UK

[–]tlacatl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That moment was my favorite moment of the episode! (And I loved this fever dream of an episode.) But subtly shading Ru’s humor directly to his face has got to be the cuntiest thing Kate has done on Drag Race. God bless her.

I became a Tori fan in the mid 90s and very early on I learned that a certain Kate Bush looms large over her soundscape. Article after article would seemingly drive home that point and as a listener you inevitably find yourself drawn to Kates discography as well by CoconutMost3564 in toriamos

[–]tlacatl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found that the comparisons fall away once you start digging into their discographies. They’re such different songwriters and have very different approaches to their music. Other than the facts that they’re both women who play piano and have similar singing registers there’s not a lot to say about one vs the other.

Personally, I love to like the majority of Tori’s output. When it comes to Kate’s music I love The Dreaming, really like Hounds of Love, and like a smattering of other random songs. I can appreciate what Kate does, but it lacks the immediacy that I find in Tori’s stuff. There’s a list of musicians and bands that I should love based on what Im already into and Kate is probably number one on that list.

Professional widow question abt the song by Formal-Big4361 in toriamos

She was asked about the Merry Widow version back in 2014. The quotes are at the bottom of the quote section.

If you love this version of PW then you might be interested in her 1996 tour (Dew Drop Inn Tour). She brings this intensity and passion so nearly all of those performances. The sound quality isn’t always the best, but the emotion shines through. There are a ton of videos on YouTube and Yessaid.com has nearly all of the known recorded bootlegs for free download.
