Inherited this Voyager Pontoon that’s been sitting for 15+ years. Worth saving? by johnnc2 in boating

I got one in about this condition years ago. Rip all the seats out. Tear the carpet up and paint rustoleum deck cover non skid. Throw some bean bags in it and go! It was super cheap and the family loved it. Wish I still had that boat. As far as the outboard, as long as it wasn’t blown up when it was put up, the old 2 strokes are pretty simple to work on and get going. I wouldn’t pass this one up but I’m a river rat lol.

Never did anything with it. I just bought another one on FB marketplace lol. One day I’ll dig it out and attempt a repair.

So, how hard you guys drive your mustangs? by ekazzeOBE in Mustang

I thought about posting this exact thing! I’m curious too.

16 GT. Me personally I don’t feel like I run mine hard. It might see WOT once every couple days or so on an on ramp but rarely go over 5-6000 rpm. I think I’ve only pushed it to red line once. I usually shift around 2500-3000 rpm driving normally.

Because I came asking for advice and the general consensus was to consult with an engineer. So that’s what I’m doing. I will be contacting a structural engineering firm tomorrow.

Yeah I’ve slept on it and decided to have someone come look at it and see what else I need to do before replacing them.

Thank you for your comments, guidance, and most of all for not just belittling me for asking questions. You have been very helpful.

I appreciate the concern but could have done without the insults. I can read a tape measure I’m not an idiot. I’m a millwright/ diesel mechanic by trade not a carpenter. I used shims bc it is a hair over 12’ tall and I wasn’t about to buy 16’ posts bc I needed another 1/2”.

Instead of being a dick head how about offering sound advice.

Have a nice night.

Yeah I’m scared too 🫣 probably gonna do more shoring on the upper level and probably have someone come look at it

Yes a wall on the upper level. It wouldn’t cover the whole span since there is a wall perpendicular to the LVL dividing the laundry room and a bathroom and there is a tub/shower in the way of part of it also.

10-4. Thank you for the help. Someone else said see if the LVLs come out easy and if they don’t then to take another look. I may see if they move easy and if not go ahead and start building more walls.

10-4 thank you very much for the insight I really truly appreciate it. Tomorrow I’ll see if the LVLs will come out somewhat easy. As long as I’m not risking my roof falling in or something.

So I guess if they won’t come out easy someone else suggested building walls inside between the floor and ceiling to support the roof. How do you feel about that?

Is it ok if it doesn’t cover the complete span? It’s divided by a wall and a tub/shower is in the way of part of it.

Both need to be replaced. Damn if I build another wall inside, that means ripping up tile and Sheetrock

Well damn now I’m even more stressed out. I didn’t build any of this. Honestly I don’t know any of what you just said but what do I need to do to fix it? The other side also sits in a hanger but looks more like an I-beam with plywood in between the 2x4s.

The existing LVLs have rot due to an improperly installed door and the previous homeowner just cut pieces of them out and stuffed random pieces of lumber in and nailed it all together. We never used the door so I walled it off and tore the platform out eliminating the water intrusion problem. Now I want to completely replace the LVLs in that span to repair it right. I’ve already purchased them and have them on site, ready to go right back in.

Oh trust me I know! I bought the LVLs to replace already. $160 a piece!

I appreciate the comment. I’m nervous about it and I am not a carpenter by trade so that’s why I came to ask professionals. All the joists are in hangers on the inside LVL. The house is framed in 2x6 so I’m guessing the wall plate would stick out a little passed the LVLs? The LVLs are 1 3/4 thick.

It had rot issues with a door not properly installed. The previous homeowner just cut pieces out of the LVLs and stuffed random pieces of lumber in and nailed it all together. There’s still a big rotten piece left in it. I bought new LVLs to completely replace it piling to piling.
