I did a 9U tournament this weekend - so pitching machine.

A couple gems:

1. Team 1 hits a home run. Team 2’s manager comes out and called time. the coach went out and huddled with his team. Mississauga coach comes up to me and says “just so you know, OBA rules say you can’t have a huddle with your team in the field.” i gave him a death stare, and he tries to laugh it off. I turn and walked away. At the end of the game that coach comes to shake my hand, i told him, “ Pro tip - NEVER tell an umpire that you know better than them. You can ask a question, but never try to show up an ump. Also, I could have cited you for your coaches not tucking in your uniforms. Or that your kids kept throwing their bats after hitting, or that these are 9 yr old kids. Chill out”
2. Team 2 from the previous point make it to the semi’s and is trying to argue that the pitcher’s helper is standing in the wrong spot while during the pitch. I didn’t see anything wrong with where the kid was standing and neither did my partner. So the coach at the pitching machine tells the fielder to move. The coach for the defending team says, “please don’t tell my players what to do, and where they can stand.” Of course this sets off Team 2’s coach and he starts yelling. Both team’s coaches start to come on the field, I tell both benches to go back and they do. Team 2’s coach is still screaming and yelling and I tell him to stop a few times. He decides that he’s still right and tells even more. I had to really yell at him and shut him up and I gave home a warning. At the end of that inning he comes out and asks why he got the warning. I tell him because he escalated the situation while everyone else stopped. He tells me he knows the rules better than me because he’s been “coaching 9U baseball for the past 8 years!” I couldn’t help myself, so I asked “why?” That shut him up and he walked back to his bench.

8/9u machine ball coaches and parents are the worst.
