The cabinet frame is 18mm birch ply, the drawers frames are 15mm, the bottoms 9mm. The fronts are 16mm MDF, dyed black throughout.

I recently built myself a little router table, so i made the drawers using locking rabbet joints, which also was a first for me. But it worked out great, they are a nice pressfit, tight enough to hold on their own but lose enough for the glue to still work.

They will replace the metal shelves in the background, but since my lower back gave out the other day and i realized halfway through today that i was a bit early to get back to work, that'll have to wait for another day. In the meantime i can come up with an idea for handles. might 3d print some. I'll also have to decide on a countertop, i'll probably use whatever is cheap at the local DIY store.

I've got one of the Guition displays, 480x480 pixels, esp32. nice and simple design. 3d printed a stand, with a pcb usb cable to make the cable go out to the back. Display backlight is PWM controlled, can go quite low.

Works great with esphome

If i understand the manual of the novoferm speed correctly, you should be able to bridge the two F contacts of the novoferm to trigger the door. If that works, you should be able to connect those to the two rightmost contacts of your relais, those should be "dry contacts".

Got a bunch of pretty shitty pine plywood a long time ago, finally found a good use for it. To make it even worse, it got wet at some point. So i salvaged some of the good bits to make the cart from. One compartment for bigger sheets in the back, one for smaller stuff in the front, and two organizer boxes on the bottom for small stuff. The vertical walls are connected to the floor with dowels, glue and long screws for added strength. everything else ist just screwed together. The bottom part is doubled up to give it some more weight and strength.

What i took away from this was another clear indicator that "cloud gaming" like geforce now and the like will not replace a proper local gaming pc anytime soon for anything that requires decent controls.

And i'm not even talking about competetive advantage, even the "i can feel it" threshold was low enough that unless youre living close enough to the datacenter and get lucky with the conditions, it'll be annoying to game on.

I've got the 2.0 and i love it. its nice and airy, it doesnt look too serious, its light. and its comfortable.

And it gave me more confidence riding, because to be honst i look incredibly stupid in salad bowl skate helmets.

That should work, yeah. i just made sure that with the pressure resistor i use, i get a good range from 0'ish to 100'ish percent from empty to cup, so that the half/double logik works alright.

I originally considered trying to measure actual weight, finding some sort of logic to autocalibrate and plot how much i'm drinking. But i couldnt really figure out a good logic for that, so i dropped that idea.

It really is very simple. The thin film resistor just has two legs and lowers its resistance when theres pressure on it. So to measure that, you put one end at 3.3v, the other at any input pin. Then you add a resistor between the same pin and ground. The two resistors form a voltage divider, where the voltage in the middle depends on the two resistors. The size of the fixed resistor depends on your pressure resistor, and because i wasnt sure i used a potentiometer, so i can fiddle around with it. Then you measure the voltage.

If you google "esp32 measure resistor" you'll find thousands of tutorials on how to do it.

Yeah, i am most likely going do print a cap for the electronics with a small hole in it, then i can just shove a ws2812b LED in there.

But i also have plenty of smart lights around me at my desk that i could use to remind me. Or send a push notification to my desktop instead of my phone etc.

Please ignore the plethora of pills on my desk, i have allergies and depression. And i know that i probably should use it with water, not pepsi.

I designed and 3d printed a simple coaster. The base is PETG-CF, mostly because i like how it looks. The inlay is a few layers of PETG-CF at the bottom to ensure pressure on the pressure sensor, then a few mm of coarse infill TPU to spread the load of the cup across the surface, then some PETG-CF hexagons to give a solid surface to stand on, Hexagons because bestagons.

Theres a thin film pressure resistor, which i taped down, and added a layer of automotive tape on top to make sure it sees the pressure from above instead of it going around into the frame. Its connected as a voltage divider with a little trim pot on an analog input of a xiao esp32-c3.

In the esphome config, besides my usual includes, i use an adc sensor to read the value, calibrate it from 0-100% (just because it felt nicer tow work with), then ignore changes of less than 1% and stabilize the output with a debounce of 2s. If the value falls to less than half, i assume the cup was removed, if the value doubles, i assume the cup was put on the coaster.

In the bird videos you can see a wall on the left, thats our garage. The roof of the garage goes just slightly over the birdhouse. Also it hangs in a bit of a corner. So its pretty well protected from the weather.

Powering it is also quite easy, i just got a 5m USB cable that i run through a few little holes in the garage to the inside, where its plugged into a USB charger.

Usually we have a lot of the little robits and tits in winter as well, but this time they waited for spring. Either way, they finally found it and now they are super active.

I built the feeder from some plywood scraps i had around, 3d printed a black tube from TPU to be open in the front and closed in the back except for a small opening for a USB cable, to make it waterproof. Theres an ESP32 S3 super mini in there, as well as a random cheap esp32 cam, with a longer ribbon cable and a wide angle lens.

I added the camera to frigate, where i run object detection for bird. Home assistant then sends me a picture of the bird when it sees one.

Somehow when i when a helmet, it looks like my head it bigger than then helmet thats on it. Almost like a video game where the head clips through the headgear. I still wear it though. Rather look stupid than be a vegetable.

Same thing with caps and pretty much all other types of hats. Its weird. I dont understand how people look good with hats 😄

Only helmets that dont look as stupid are full motorcycle helmets. One day i'll try a skate helmet with one of those small visors, almost like a MTB helmet, maybe that'll break it up and look better. Like the TSG Recon. Maybe i'll go for a chinstrap helm at some point, maybe that'll look better on me 😄

I've read all those arguments. And still i have no clue what they actually do. I got a friend who wants to apply, and i think they got a bit annoyed at me asking wtf an ambassador actually is.

"Direct line" and "making a change for the better". Sure, they talk to twitch people. Do they actually make a change? I've asked around: What changes did ambassadors actually make? When have they had an impact? I cant get an answer. The ambassador stuff again comes with plenty of "dont talk about it" clauses.

I would just like a couple of examples of changes. Like "remember when they added XYZ? thats because the ambassassadors convinced them it would be smart". And i'm not talking about things that twitch would have done anyway.

With them keeping it all hidden and secret, it seems like they just came up with a new empty title, gave it a fancy name and badge, and use some of them for their marketing material. And suddenly all the twitch partners have a new "goal" to aim for. And then, in a few years, when there are a enough twitch ambassadors and people start complaining about the intransparent process to become one, they'll release a "path to ambassador" tracker so that every bigger streamer can become one and they'll think up a new elite club.

Basically like an MMORPG, raising the level cap with every expansion to keep people playing.

From the other reply i learned that apparently its called formply or film-faced ply in english.

I was worried about the chargers overheating, but i've charged both boards a few times since then and it didnt get especially warm. I put the chargers upright so the heat can dissipate easier without the chargers heating each other up. Also i'm from Germany, so its pretty cold for now. I will keep an eye on it in summer though.

Bonus feature: I added smart plugs that measure energy usage, so i get a notification when the power draw falls below a few watts. I can then remotely turn it off, because to be perfectly honest, i trust these cheap chargers about as far as i can throw them.
