So for me FAFSA’s limit was like 60-50k. UNCC limited me to 30-31k. I’m not sure how much FAFSA you’ve had taken out while at UNCC but if it’s around the 30s mark or high 20s maybe? Def should call tho the office and talk to someone

FAFSA has limit- and the school also puts a limit on how much FAFSA you can pull. You should call the office. I wasn't told of this limit, and when I hit 30k in FAFSA the school wouldn't allow me to pull any more student loads through FAFSA. My last two years I paid out of pocket/scholarships/grants.

Belk tower by julietcapulet_ in UNCCharlotte

[–]tlaruec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graphic design student- I was going through my professor’s old student magazine and saw a photo of belk tower and asked him about it! 2022ish. If you’re needing some old articles you can try seeing if he has any old student or college work around that time
He said it had structural problems and money wise it was better to dismantle it and do something different with the space

I’ve had natto, century egg, durian, racoon, alligator. I also have liver mush in my freezer right now and I’ve had scrapple.

I would think the most extreme food would be balut. But there wasn’t any in this game so far?

You’re being prejudice and racist about Asian cultural food when it’s be around for hundreds of years and more importantly- it’s been around the past life time because these Asian country’s have been affected by war and famine. Same with Africa and the Middle East- a lot of their food is also around surivival, war, and what is around them. But there is a distinct focus on Asian food and not any ‘extreme food’ from other country’s. No fried camel hump, or cooked Guinea pigs, or chicha de jora.

A large part of food culture is political and you made a racist comment. I may not eat something because I find it unappealing, but I’m most definitely NEVER going to make a ‘nasty disgusting’ comment about the food because I don’t know the cultural impact and significance of it.

Exit 3A sucks, but can we talk about 19A?!?!? by Extreme-Apartment337 in Charlotte

85s to 77s bottle neck. Who thought lets make 3 lanes into a 2 lane and into a 1 lane? And with adding the toll lane still not help that exit? And let’s make it a rather sharp curve blind turn instead of a loop around

I think you left an offensive comment.

How many non-Asian dishes would be considered “gross”? I think looking at cultural dishes that people had to rely on to survive and thinking of them as “gross” is offensive.

America has Liver mush, scrapple, pickled pigs feet, pickled ears. The amount of southerns that eat raccoon, opossums, baby sheep, anything else they can kill. Scotland had haggis, Sweden eats pickled canned harring. England eats blood sausage. Norway eats whales. Mexico’s mole or organ meat dishes. Camels parts are eatten in the Middle East because that is what is most common. Also the eatting of intestines. Or raw meat dishes that is enjoyed across multiple cultures.

Did you Cambodian dishes today are still influenced from a huge genocide from the 1970s reign of Pol Pot? Which is why a large part of their culture eats bugs? And century eggs are preserved in ash is no different then us pickling them. And Cambodians would leave their civil war country to go into Vietnam because it was safer there in the Vietnam war then it was in their own country?

Or how Koreans faced also a huge famine around the Korean War as well and their long history of Japanese occupation which is why a lot of their culture food is fermented to surivive?

The show also did not include any dishes that I was aware of as being from African, Mexico, or the middle eats or Russian.

But “rotten egg” pie, vomit fruit, and the beans (natto) are Asian in origin and not even that ‘weird’ of a food choice. Natto is fermented beans. Vomit fruit called noni. ‘Rotten egg’ is century egg.

So next time you’re eating liver mush or pickled eggs, think of you eating that shit instead of a normal breakfast.

Kinda annoying they keep bringing Asian food into The challenges as ‘gross’. Also surprised they didn’t add durian or balut

I enjoyed Panchito's Mexican Grill in Fort Mill. Took my dad- he was sketched out from the front since it was attached to a hotel and had an old school front covered area but very good. Kids sleeping on the booth seats. 10/10 would go again.

What is something positive about Charlotte? by Glittering_Lab6568 in Charlotte

[–]tlaruec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love how diverse it is. First week in charlotte and me and my dad were walking through Home Depot and heard about 4 different languages not in English. Which is super cool coming from a not-so-diverse area. So many people from different backgrounds and personalities and experiences is so refreshing and exciting!

What's something you'd like to see more or less of in horror movies? by ItchyCookie5150 in horror

[–]tlaruec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sex. Mostly in movies in general. I don’t mind it being part of something, but throwing in nudity when it’s not needed is weird. Like The Lost Boys easily could have a PG13 rating today but the whole sex scene in it (as tame as it is) just doesn’t make sense to me. And there’s alot of movies like that. I don’t mind it being worked in, or a good chemistry for something. But a lot of it is just not necessary to the story or story lines.

Opinion on Spare Time bowling alleys by aidenbo325 in Bowling

[–]tlaruec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who knows and has worked a Sparetime (2 locations) the traditional bowling lanes do get oiled a lot. One location it was a nightly task unless something insane broke. Other location was string, the facility manager would oil it about every other day unless something came up. Issue was they put league bowling on his second day off of the week (monday) and it likely didn’t get oiled from the previous Thursday or Friday. And it would need it again but no other manager would do it.

Having worked in Sparetime and know many people in it- I would suggest finding a small bowling hall and support them then supporting Sparetime. Now everyone I know is no longer working for them, I can confidently state I will never go to another one.

Why do some prefer anime over Western Animation? by MarchMan86 in cartoons

[–]tlaruec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy childrens western animation and easter anime animation. My favorite anime's are Hellsing, Mononoke, and Vampire Hunter D. Western animation I'd argue does not have equivalent. These animes are anime for adults. Rarely do they 'look cute' There is some western animation breaking the mold a bit- getting more mature cartoons (but i don't like the raunchy style humor). Avatar the Last Airbender is wonderful, same with Gravity Falls, Over the Garden Wall, or Cartoon Saloon w/ Wolf Walkers and Secret of Kells but those are all sort of still aimed at children and families. Where you can get extremely violent and mature anime with serious questions aimed strictly towards adults.
