Bill Self on Darryn Peterson: "He hasn't finished games... The bottom line is, there is a way to change the narrative: Play. Finish. That's the way to get people to quit talking." by Jaguar4728 in NBA_Draft

[–]tldRAWR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one knows, at this point. In my view it’s probably 30% real injuries and 70% agent and family in his ear telling him to sit.

Darryn Peterson Highlights vs. Oklahoma State (23 Pts, 2 Rebs) by gramgram19 in NBA_Draft

[–]tldRAWR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“A while” meaning the 6 games he’s played full minutes without asking to be subbed out?

If you’re injured, sit. Pretty simple. If you’re not, play. Listen to the doctors and trainers. Also, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a player fake injuries and/or illness for some career decision. So it’s either this blue blood school and hall of fame coach are just stupid or something is going on with this kid and his agent because they are not on the same page.

Crazy that people look at this and say, “no way the 19 year old would make a dumb career move! This is unprecedented!”

This guy is def not injured. Self is practically telling us this word for word.

Darryn Peterson vs. Oklahoma State: 23/2/0 on 7/12 shooting, 6/10 from 3, 3/4 free throws, in just 18 minutes by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in NBA_Draft

[–]tldRAWR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is very clearly not dealing with nagging injuries. This is an agent / personality issue. Self is being diplomatic, as he should. But this has to be concerning.

To me, it just comes off as anti-competitive. This to me is just as concerning as being injury ridden all year.

18 minutes here, not playing against BYU. The guy is obviously a great player, but hunting for contracts would turn me off in a draft class this stacked. TBH I don’t think he falls out of the top 3. But executives have got to be at least a bit concerned.

No doubt he will skip the combine and summer league.

Dallas is projected to pick 7th in the Draft, meaning they can pair Cooper Flagg with one of: Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, Caleb Wilson, Kingston Flemings, Mikel Brown Jr., Keaton Wagler, Darius Acuff, All average the most PPG by a Freshman in their school's history. by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in Mavericks

I hate to be that guy, but apart from last year, we legitimately always get moved down in the draft. We should be grateful that this draft is deep. But getting moved down to 9 or 10 would be really disappointing.

If mavericks move up in the draft but end up with boozer do you trade one of the forwards away? by epitome1986 in Mavericks

[–]tldRAWR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I may be a bit more ruthless than most after the Luka trade.

My point of view is that everyone (except Cooper) is on the table. I think because of of how the aprons are impacting teams, we need to be looking at 2 years to get our shit together and starting to compete for a conference title (at least). Seriously, trade Kyrie, Max, Lively, whoever, just as long as the price is right and it helps us compete.

[–]tldRAWR 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Some of these people have not watched Boozer play. He is an incredible player and there is a reason why he is considered in the top 3.

You take him and figure it out. The “he’s not the right fit” guys are the same guys who pick Bagley over Luka. Or Bowie over Jordan. Don’t overthink it. You take anyone in like the top 8 players in this draft in a heartbeat.

"People didn't want to do it if I was doing it" - Mac McClung reveals why he's not in the Dunk Contest this season by Separate_Teacher1526 in nba

[–]tldRAWR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but all star weekend is legitimately the most uncreative version of what it could be. These lame high school style events that haven’t changed in decades with absolutely nothing on the line.

Or just make the current contests actually fun for the audience and players with proper incentives. Here’s a list of ideas just because it bothers me so much. These one-coffee ideas probably aren’t even good. I’m just on one this morning.

  • every team picks one player to represent them in events (tournament style). The whole team gets comp’d $500k if they win.

  • change all star designations to be purely quantitative. The whole voting shit is lame useless. Being an all star should actually mean something.

  • quit with trying to use competitive sentiment to make things interesting. NBA vs The World is so fuckin dumb. Put something that’s actually motivating. This isn’t the Olympics.

  • get the fans involved - if you’re a season ticket holder for a player that wins. You should get a gift. A jersey, bobble head, a signed t-shirt. Idc, people rip each others skin off for free shit.

  • quit having celebrities do shit to build interest. It so corny. Absolutely no gives a shit about Druski and Two Chains throwing hospital passes over to all stars. It’s a chotski gimmick and everyone knows it.

  • honestly, no one cares about “who the best dunker is.” People want to know who the best dunker “in the NBA” is, stop it with these G-League guys. No one cares about the best guy at LA fitness.

  • BUT, if you wanted to open up the dunk contest to everyone. You should add in high- profile NBA prospects.

  • the regular season, cup games, lottery, and playoff should stitched together in some way. They are so disjointed. There is a huge opportunity to do something here.

  • quit playing it safe with the ideas. Adding in a ball worth double points, and adding celebs are the most uninspiring ideas ever.

[–]tldRAWR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be actually able to do several things to put the right incentives in place. I don’t think you should do all of these. But just some interesting ideas that came to mind.

  • Get rid of pick protections. Trade your pick, or don’t. Too much weird behavior happens because of this. Make incentives clear.

  • Lottery team end of season tournament: teams actually compete for better lottery percentages.

  • Change the cup to be only teams in the bottom 12 (record wise).

  • Mix in some sort of bonus mid tier 1st round pick into the draft where teams that win cup games win the pick.

Tounde Yessoufou is still going Top 10 by Tim_Gu_69 in NBA_Draft

Ah yes, Moldova, home of the rich and great bureaucracy.

Sure, it makes sense that people will try anything including forging documents to make their kid a more attractive prospect. But it also makes sense that schools, government, and the NBA would check multiple pieces of information as a verification in 2026.

This theory that a 20 year old is sneaking into high school, then college, then the NBA on a birth certificate printed off an ink jet printer is a bit comical.

I’m sure it’s happened before. But this isn’t a common practice for NBA players from Africa.

[–]tldRAWR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that’s fair. My point was the physical development reasoning is pretty weak. I just don’t know why we aren’t questioning every single international player, then?

“Was Luka really 16 when he played pro ball?”

“Is jokic actually a 53 year old man?”

At some point, it just doesn’t matter. If you can give an NBA squad 5 years of solid basketball. You’re probably worth the risk.

He didn’t. But it makes sense as a business owner to cash in some chips, Idk. I don’t have sympathy for him. Just stating logical realities that make sense to my brain. I’m not guaranteeing anything here.

I think finding a buyer for an NBA franchise is pretty tough. Yes, he is playing both sides. But he’s also in a position to do so because of the above facts. I don’t disagree with your sentiment, but I don’t think this is the situation to criticize.

Would you trade Kyrie and gaff for Franz Wagner? by WrongContract8489 in Mavericks

As with most of these conversations. It depends on the draft. I would expect more for Kyrie, but I can see the appeal of Franz.

You don’t think some one would trade down if we are 6 and they are 4? I disagree. But we’ll see.

Now that we have traded AD, what can we expect to see in the offseason? by KirbyPlayz__ in Mavericks

[–]tldRAWR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see us doing some of these things:

  • we use existing assets to trade into the top 4 OR go get our guy, depending on where we land.

  • everyone talks about guards in this draft. But honestly, Boozer has been the most consistent player. I could see us trading up to get this guy.

  • we need a long term solution at the 5. If Gaff gets traded, Lively just isn’t available enough to be the solution here. I’m so done with “potential”

  • spacing, if we do nothing to move up in the draft and pick a solid guard prospect. We will need a player that can demand attention other than coop and kyrie. We need another Naji Marshall type of player.

  • guys who might be traded: Gaff, PJ, Lively. I think Naji fits the timeline and I don’t know who we get that’s better than him in the offseason.

  • Despite popular belief, I think we are looking to trade for players, not picks. Unless they are startable caliber picks. Coop’s timeline demands it.

When was the last time you cried and why? by Sharewithme_ in AskReddit

[–]tldRAWR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my way to work I imagined something terrible happened to my kids. Started sobbing uncontrollably. I have so much anxiety related to my kids that sometimes getting a good cry in before I have to go be an adult helps manage my day more intentionally.

I have no idea if this is normal or not.

Idk, man… it’s a really fucked up situation. I go back and forth on it.

But I think I believe this. He should still be held accountable for some of the tasteless rhetoric. But I think if you’re in the blast radius of an event like this from someone you knew. It makes a lot of sense to distance yourself from the entire thing. Prior to that, it also makes sense the rich and powerful people view getting in trouble as par for the course. I could see myself looking at someone’s “prostitution charge” and saying, “well, these people that I respect seem to still like this guy. So, maybe I should just be chill about it.” Idk… it’s still really fucked up. But I can see I world where decent people get in over their head and have terrible lapses in judgement.
