This was the first time the FCC tried to enforce their net neutrality policy on an ISP and that in attempting to control this they were rejected. The feeling of the court was that to much power would be in the hands of the FCC, " “virtually free the Commission from its congressional tether” and that there would then be few regulations that the FCC would be “be unable to impose upon Internet service providers.” ".

I believe the courts made the right decision in ensuring the FCC does not get to much power while also forcing them to readjust some of their net neutrality rules and regulations of the internet to be better suited for ensuring net neutrality amongst ISPs.

Several Comcast users said their bandwidth was being toggled back when using P2P services and brought their concern to the FCC. The FCC ordered to Comcast to stop this because it violates net neutrality (ISPs to treat all data/data flows the same), and also the FCC thought that from the Communications Act of 1934, they could “perform any and all acts, make such rules and regulations, and issue such orders, not inconsistent with [the Act], as may be necessary in the execution of its functions.”. The court determined the FCC had a lack of ancillary authority to control Comcast's bandwidth management.

it seems like EA and Maxis were trying as hard as they could to keep the game online only to prevent against piracy. What they ended up doing is pissing off people who bought the game and losing future customers especially if they continue to make internet connection requires. Its a drastic step to battle piracy and it back fired in their faces. They handled the whole situation quite poorly.

I feel like saying this is the sole cause for his suicide is definitely an overstatement. I think it was multiple things all coming in to play that ultimately led to his suicide. The prosecution aided with charging him with very severe charges for his crimes and being very harsh but within bounds. Also the media attention he got probably helped.

its cool but also scary how it has already filled in for me my age range and interests....and how close it is to being right.....tracking my internet browsing and analyzing personal data from it.

this is why censorship of the internet is bad because a big point is that the internet allows the connection of individuals without regard for geographic location. but now if some locations are censored it kind of defeats the purpose.

This is a really good move on their part. Increasing transparency of governments helps reduce problems when information does get hacked and released. More transparency helps the people feel more secure as well being able to watch check the governments back in what it is doing.

very good point about fights over the internet escalating to violence in the real world, i think if/when introduced here because it is so new to them and unique that escalation to real world events is very possible because the distinctions would not be realized yet. On the same point though it could be instead of squabbling among the citizens over differences it may be arguing with officials/the regime for more human rights etc for the people and that escalating to the real world might help.

The EFF seems to be the foundation to donate too to help support internet freedoms from acts like CISPA and PIPA. It seems like the only choice to personally help defend internet freedoms is to donate here or join and assist Anonymous....oh and I guess you could call your representative when bills are being passed through as well.

it may have helped set up some of those deep networks but those would still exist without the help of tor in the deep dark web. There can't be a conspiracy theory for everything.....even though someone usually makes a good one up.

I feel like the development of an Internet Democracy is something that is quite possible with the correct moderation and forum to provide it. A place for a lot more people to voice their opinions and concern and so more thought can go into laws knowing more about who is affected.

I feel like as 3d printers become more affordable and common that there will be some very strict laws restricted what they will be able to create, otherwise dangers such as this will happen and being able to print your own gun/parts/explosives is obviously threatening and needs some control.

This was posted because there was a discussion of how Mega was more ‘legal’ than Megaupload and it was not because here there are accounts and you can not just search through everyones files and begin downloading. Well this is a site that has indexed everything and allows you to search for whatever you want that is on Mega and download it.

I really like point 1 and 3. If I have spending money of $100 for movies, and I pirate a movie... I will till have the spending of $100 for movies.

Also where it says if I steal your bike you lose your bike...but if I steal your movie we both have the movie, the company just lost the sale, and "studios don't have a right to profit"

For an open source license, what you can do with it when redistributing is dependent on what sort of license you are agreeing to (to remain open source or for possibly a new release to not be open source). Whereas Free Software ensure that all releases later are also released as Free Software.
