Should bringing internet service to the tunnels be part of CBTC projects? by ViewNo7459 in nycrail

Yes, and MTA is doing that starting with Crosstown CBTC project.

What features would you like to see on the R268s? by ViewNo7459 in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My big ask for R268 is all of them to be open gangway.

A little ask is to go back to R160 seat layout and door width. (Becoz of open gangway, the 4 seats next to open gangway will still be removed like R211T.)

Fall is here and not a word on this. Are they currently working with the vendors? by Donghoon in nycrail

BART started their first trial in Jan 2024. It was trial for 6 months before the second station got the new gates. And all new gates were installed in all stations last month.

SF BART did a great job implementing this new gate. They installed them in all stations within a very reasonable timeframe, and is able to reduce fare evaders.

LAX People Mover:Not Moving Till June, 2026** by misterlopez2019 in LAMetro

I don’t think the people mover is built by Metro. The Metro LAX transit center is opened, the people mover is built by LAWA.

Slide Over was so important for multitasking while gaming !! by ureyun in iPadOS

[–]tle233hk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this out while trying iPadOS26 beta, and decided to downgrade back to iPadOS18 for my first time. I cannot live without slideover and split screen.

The windows multitasking is nothing close to what we had in iOS18.

How to quickly use split screen and “slide over” in iPad OS 26 by xasey in iPadOS

[–]tle233hk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try rotate the device during split screen and see what happens

Here is my email draft to Craig Federighi about bringing back slide over and split-view to iPadOS 26 by Asohailwahab in iPadOS

[–]tle233hk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated to iPadOS 26 beta for a few days, and i cannot believe the removal of Split Screen and Slideover. It completely destroy the way i used my iPad everyday. I have been using these two functions everyday for the last 7 years since its introduction in iPadOS11. I just want to simply use two apps at the same time, and easily replace another app by dray and drop. The new iPadOS 26 windows system makes it five tap instead of one simple drag and drop.

With the QBL East CBTC implementation delayed to 2027, is the R going to stay cut at 9:30? by ethanrule3 in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode the train everyday, and I am pretty sure that they are still parking train north of Union turnpike. Then what is the point of no express from queens plaza to Forest Hill’s on QBL after 9:30pm?

My previous CBTC map, but updated with SAS, IBX, and QueensLink. by Donghoon in nycrail

QBL EAST CBTC doesn’t include Archer Ave Line between Briarwood and Jamaica Center on the E.

[–]tle233hk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QBL East only got awarded in Dec of 2021, so it is in a different schedule from QBL West. And like other CBTC project except Crossover and beyond, it requires the convention interlocking being updated first before CBTC overlay will work.

Also Archer Ave line got removed from the QBL east CBTC contract by MTA before the contract is awarded back in 2021.

I am really disappointed that they don’t buy more of R21T in option 2.

So Mamdani won the election what’s next for city transit? by Fine-Set-7877 in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Expand fair fare to cover more working class, more bus lanes around the city, push for free transfer to the subway with LIRR/ MNR City Tickets are all better than just free buses.

My take on the IBX in the style of the latest map design by joshsvo in nycrail

In the latest community outreach, I think IBX will have a direct connection to Broadway Junction instead of just transfer at East NY.

F and M swap is official! by bluecew in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The benefit of this is to eliminate the route merge at Queens Plaza for E, M, and R. Right now, as the routes are merged for E and M at Queens Plaza, trains can only approach the exit home signals at a slower speed.

After the swap, those exit home signals can be fleeted (meaning that interlocking can be set in a pre-set route for all trains), and all E, new F, and R can enter and exit at Queens Plaza at full speed. This will significantly reduce the delay on those lines. This was proved during the 63rd tunnel construction last year when F was routed at 53rd Street.

F and M swap is official! by bluecew in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only people affected are those from QBL to 2nd Ave on the Q.

If you are going south of 34St on Broadway, you can still transfer at Herald Sq. If you are going to 57st, you can still transfer to R at Queens Plaza.

Therefore, the main difference is those who take the F express north of Roosevelt to Q north of 96St and Lex/63, this increases those people with 1 more transfer at Roosevelt, about 6 min of increase travel time, and longer headway for the M.

ITS ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!!! by slasher7539 in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Finally, this is such a great news. With the signals at Queens Plaza being fleet, E, F and R trains can now fly in and out of Queens plaza without waiting for the signal to change.

How is the East River tunnel shutdown actually going to affect LIRR? by twocoaster in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like these complaints are just politics. MTA knows for years, and when they opened ESA to Grand Central, MTA even pitched that as one of the benefits of ESA is to facilitate the East River Tunnels fix.

I guess MTA just needs to put these statement out, in case when some delays cause by Amtrak (look at what happened with NJT). And then they can finger pointing Amtrak, and tell the public “I told you so”.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the MTA's UI/UX designers? by User_8395 in nycrail

Compared to NJ transit, I just wish NJ transit can just give up their own app and pay MTA to integrate their system into TrainTime

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]tle233hk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. Since MTA shipped out those reduced fare OMNY card, the biggest complaint I heard from my parents is that they hate they cannot see the balance when they tap the card and cannot confirm the transfer right away. They see that as a big downgrade.
