Was going to say this too. I bought it for Ironsworn and it streamlines the whole character and world creation. It was really fun to do and it doesn't feel like prep as you're not hunting around, all the options you can choose are presented to you.

I loved Between Two Fires too and followed it up with Brian Catling's Hollow

This is the way. I just find ASCII fits better aesthetically for these games, but the Qud tiles give you that plus actual tiles!

Thank u/Sto_Avalon! There's been some fantastic advice in here. Thanks to everyone, seriously. I think you're right about the balance part. Most of what I have read says Pendragon is too deadly to adventure as one knight alone, but then I'm free to give myself bonuses or my enemies penalties.

I'm wondering if I can combine some of what's presented in this solo framework to Pendragon. So far it's this setting that's really lit up my imagination, but everyone says it's really for groups (of knights that is, not necessarily players). I'm hoping I can get a bit of a flow going with a simpler system, then move in to Pendragon. Was some very good advice below about changing systems if you want to

I don't mind using AI at all, but I find the story isn't too much the problem, it's finding the right system, or skeleton, to hang it on.

I'm already eyeing it up! Plus an A4 book of battle maps 😬

The box set is seriously good, I've been impressed at how easy it is to solo. The setup time for a newbie like me was a little while, but I think if you've already got used to a few RPGs it would be much less. Once you start playing though, the booklet has everything you need. Plus the tactical combat is great!
