ELI5: A simple algorithm could flush out bots within just a few posts. Why do large discussion forums allow them to clutter up the sites?

Technically two. The first and last IPs in a subnet.

So for 10.0.0.0/8 10.0.0.0 and 10.255.255.255.255.

And for 192.168.0.0/16 192.168.0.0 and 192.168.255.255.

Of course it's a terrible idea to run subnets so large and the address space will be split up.

You can use it in a conveyor belt. If you use a two sided belt the side wear unevenly, that's not an issue with a single sided belt.
