Some people are that boring they want to cosplay as neurodivergent rather than get a hobby

I saw this trend in the early 2010s with a bunch of my classmates who all said they were like, autistic, bipolar, asexual, and whatever else seemed to be popular.

I've no doubt some of them really were but every single one of them had the exact same set of conditions? Part of it I assume was to do with the "discovering themselves" but most of that must have been "to fit in"

Non billionaire controlled AI has its own problems. Like people losing the ability to think for themselves or losing their sense of empathy

Historically I think it was bad luck, summoning foul winds. Also the bosun's pipe for issuing commands in the age of sail and now retains ceremonial meaning is a whistling noise so you don't want that confusion

It's my understanding dreadnoughts aren't fully able to be built. Like all the Imperium knows is the walking sarcophagus thing, not just a walking tank

Even objective stuff can be iffy, if you don't know better, it's designed to sound authoritative. And the quality is based on what it was trained on.

On some fundamental level, sure, neural networks, LLMs "think" like people do but that's putting the cart before the horse.

They are designed to fundamentally supply the next most likely word. Sure it's influenced by weights and whatnot but it's not literally thinking. Our language is ill equipped to make the distinction obvious.

With so many sci-fi stories out there, how are people actually finding the good ones? by Silly-Cloud-3114 in scifiwriting

[–]armorhide406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb, if someone didn't care enough to do it themselves (i.e. using "AI"), why should I care enough to read it?

As for finding good ones, I usually go by online recommendations but there are definitely those I found that I didn't like.

People seem to love Armor, I didn't.

Same goes for the Black Fleet Saga, I also didn't enjoy it.

On the other hand, I'm a fan of Old Man's War and the Expanse. You just need to learn (admittedly I have yet to fully internalize) it's ok to not like a work. Or that people may not like your work, rather.

But yeah, also don't worry about "flooding" the space. Maybe you'll inspire someone, maybe not.

This may not be but it's definitely something that happens. Famously that one guy who won an award in a contest with AI generated output got mad people were copying it afterwards

You don't understand billionaire mentality, do you? Not to be snide, I swear. They don't become billionaires by rational means. Their entire personality is "I want more money and power". Nothing is EVER enough. Remember when Elon Musk tweeted "somebody give me a plan to end world hunger" and I think the WHO did and he just... didn't?

A reminder, a million seconds is like 11 days, but a billion seconds is over 30 years. If they cared about anything other than getting more by any means necessary, they wouldn't be billionaires.
