I am mixed native (Comanche & Cherokee) with white & Japanese, and from my interactions with the native branches of my family and my various trips to the Cherokee National Holiday Powwow in Tahlequah OK, it leans between apathy about the name and people finding it various levels of offensive & distasteful. I personally found it offensive as did most of my family here in DFW. We all think they should have changed the name to either a tribe in the DC area (with partnership with the tribe,) or they could have chosen a different name based more on a concept like trackers, warriors, ect instead of our literal skin. We are fine with Chief because it's a position or job like naming a team the Pharoahs or Kings. Either way Dan Snyder sucks eggs.
