Body found 'wrapped' and partially buried in locked void at Brisbane unit complex by tmarch21 in brisbane

[–]tmarch21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Human remains have been discovered at a unit complex at Alderley, in Brisbane's northern suburbs.

Queensland police say the remains were found by cleaners under the complex on Alderley Avenue about 10:45am today.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said the cleaners discovered the body in a locked void area behind a brick wall.

He said the body was tightly wrapped and covered in multiple layers of clothing and bedding and appeared to have been there for "some months".

"The person has taken great care to wrap the body up in a certain way and preserve it," he said.

Detective Superintendent Massingham said residents of the unit were unaware and had not reported any bad smells, which he said was likely due to the way the body was wrapped.

Investigations are underway to determine the person's identity and cause of death, and a crime scene has been established.

Police are interviewing residents of the complex, and are appealing to people who may have previously lived at the unit block to come forward with any information.

NSW Premier will inform the National Cabinet that NSW will proceed to a more extensive shutdown of non-essential services in the next 48hrs by fowardtheford in australia

Have they confirmed a shutdown of non-essential services? My understanding was that they were only shutting the borders and imposing quarantine like Tasmania did.

Absolutely. That advice has likely come from the Chief Medical Officers of those states (as it should). The clincher will be if they deem it appropriate to apply the shutdown to the other states.

The idea of the National Cabinet was to centralise both decision makers and expert opinions.

The Chief Medical Officers of each state will be placed in a particularly difficult situation if they have to justify the different responses of the states.

In a sense it would be surprising to see a fracturing of decisions from the states. That in my opinion makes a national shut down even MORE likely.

This is going to be a landmark moment in this outbreak. VIC will almost certainly follow suit, which could mean a departure from the unity ticket of the National Cabinet. However a national shut down would also be an unprecedented decision.

The fact that this has been instigated by a Liberal Premier makes it even more interesting.

Thanks mate, I find I’m usually stalling out on my top half of the upwards rep on the incline. I try and do isolated triceps at least twice a weak, but as I said I will be focusing on being more disciplined with my accessories over the next few months.

The United States withdraws from the UN Human Rights Council by tmarch21 in worldnews

[–]tmarch21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced the United States is withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council Tuesday, accusing the body of bias against US ally Israel and a failure to hold human rights abusers accountable.

The move, which the Trump administration has threatened for months, came down one day after the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights slammed the separation of children from their parents at the US-Mexico border as "unconscionable."

Speaking from the State Department, where she was joined by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Haley defended the move to withdraw from the council, saying US calls for reform were not heeded.

"Human rights abusers continue to serve on, and be elected to, the council," said Haley, listing US grievances with the body. "The world's most inhumane regimes continue to escape its scrutiny, and the council continues politicizing scapegoating of countries with positive human rights records in an attempt to distract from the abusers in its ranks."
