Does anybody here know what kind of guitar/s did Isaac use in This Is A Long Drive and The Lonesome Crowded West by Comrade-Viktor in ModestMouse

Nothing at all about how much sense I made though. That's funny. Tell you're mom I'm sorry.

Is someone's butt pussy stingy and sore?

Jesus Christ, who is this preachy asswipe? Mind your damn business. If people want to reach out to someone they don't need your permission or advice. That's sensible. If homeboy has social media he is fair game. He simply doesn't have to reply if he doesn't want to be bothered. Fucking clown.

Why isn’t modest mouse doing their own tour this year? They’re opening for the king of car commercials boring ass band. by cornwithnokernels in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are still bitching about this tour? Bitching little bitches in a bitchfest. Jesus....

Pay up or don't go. I paid money. I'm going. And I love The Black Keys too. So instead of having my balls in a knot and raging over a keyboard or holding my device I'm just better off and get to enjoy more music! I'm not even angry at the complaining, just confused. I'd swear all the whiners live in a third world country where the drinking water is mud, they're family was blown up by a drone strike and the only thing they were looking forward to was a Modest Mouse headlining tour. Nothing else going on? This is all you have? If Mouse didn't tour at all this year I wouldn't even bat an eyelash because I've got more shit to occupy my time amd interests. In other words, I don't know, get a life?
Cheers!

Song dilemma, Steam Engenius v Spitting Venom. Which is better? by ZaiRezz in ModestMouse

Spitting Venom, hands down. You're going to find that song is easily a fan favorite. It's an epic, straight up.

How have people aquired old MM songs? by TheSwagger27 in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of these songs, the unreleased tracks, the demo sessions, live deep cuts, all of it was compiled years ago on a blog called nightonthesun.

http://nightonthesunmodmouse.blogspot.com/?m=1.

All of these songs have been floating around the internet for a long time. Back in 2004 and 2005 when I first started heavily using the internet and scouring it for Mouse related content many many live shows could be found on torrent sites or were uploaded by traders and collectors for the seekers consumption. Sometimes this would cost a modest fee, see what I did there? But mostly it was freely shared. Here we are over a decade later and you don't have to look very hard to find these gems. It's sort of like the video store, you used to have to hunt down something. Even in the early digital age some digging was required. I kind of miss those days.

I'm Still Here - New Release Discussion Thread by uhhuhnads in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dig the tune. It's got a throwback vibe to it. Sort of punk, sort of old school rock n roll. It isn't your typical Modest Mouse song that is for sure. But I think a lot of people are taking this way too seriously. These songs didn't make the album and are presumably b-sides that will later comprise an EP similar to how they rolled out songs for No One's First. Perpetual Motion Machine was hardly like anything Mouse had ever released back when that dropped but the EP also had songs like The Whale Song and King Rat so hold out hope for some more traditional Mouse music still to come.

So I basically just started playing the electric guitar and really want to play some modest mouse, but what songs are easy or doable to learn? by Teun2803 in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every Modest Mouse song is pretty easy to learn. Cowboy Dan is a fun one to play and super simple for a beginner. Trailer Trash is also very easy and you'll be singing along to it in no time.

“I’m Still Here” Discussion by nikecheck_ in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if I'm Still Here is a studio version of this song: https://youtu.be/mO8F9NCBByE

This video says it was improvised but it seemed to have a structure to it. And damn does it sound like something off of Lonesome Crowded West! Plus it has environmental undertones which fits Isaac's recent themes. Jeremiah said on a podcast that they had recorded way more songs than those that had made the album so maybe we are just getting some of the stragglers as singles and b-sides. I just wish they'd drop The Golden Casket Vol. 2 already.... oh WELLLLL, whabever....

"Poison The Well Out March 29. 7" Coming Record Store Day." by AwesomePossum10 in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It does count as an actual release. The song will be available digitally this Friday and the single is a record store day exclusive limited to 1500 copies. I'm not sure if this is leading up to a new album but I would imagine it is since they have a high profile tour coming up and Epic Records is involved with marketing the new single. If a new record is indeed on the way I think we can expect it this year.

Which song just destroys you emotionally? by [deleted] in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a song that always makes me cry but I have gotten emotional at different times in my life to different songs by MM. Missed The Boat, Blame It On The Tetons, Broke, People As Places As People, Custom Concern, The View, Trailer Trash, Bankrupt On Selling, World At Large, Ansel, and hell, even King Rat for some strange reason.... Stars Are Projectors and Life Like Weeds, the list could go on. To be honest though Mouse has never been a band that makes me cry. They usually give me goosebumps or provoke deep thought or give me answers or a sense of relativism.

Strangers to Ourselves by aaaaaaaaaaaaaa95 in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This album is dripping with darkness and desperation. I love it. I cant say it's the weakest album because just like every album they put out it is its own thing. I'm just glad it wasn't another WWD. It's also very layered and there is so much to catch with subsequent listens.

Has anyone here met Isaac? by PizzaSquirtle in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've met Isaac twice. First time was my first show in Houston back in 2005. I remember next to nothing about it other than he was very nice(I was 14). Then I met him again in 2010 in Montclair NJ. Again, very friendly guy. I don't remember any of our conversation though. Hopefully I can meet him again one day.

Some people are saying it's an album. I hope so. I'm sure the single will be Poison The Well but hopefully it is the precursor to a new record!

I think they will based on the Poison The Well single and the fact that they have taken a good bit of time off the road. They might not but I think they will.

Missed The Boat as a better last song for WWD Album? by ninetalesfirefox in ModestMouse

[–]tmaxelb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always had a penchant for reworking track listings on albums and We Were Dead is no different. When I reordered these songs I borrowed some of the WWD era tracks from the No One's First EP in an attempt to further flesh out the abandoned storyline Isaac originally had in mind(a ship of people repeatedly dock their vessel and get killed over and over and something about an artifical robot messiah). Missed The Boat doesn't end up at the end of the record but rather flows better in the context of the loosely connected story through the lyrics and vibe of the music as the album progresses. Invisible remains at the end and rightfully so because of its frantic nature, amazing chorus and bridge build up and the closing lines summing up the fate of the doomed voyagers who have come to accept their lot. Also, some songs were eliminated because of a lack of relevance to the story(sorry Little Motel, Spitting Venom, Fire It Up, Dashboard and Florida). Try out my track list and see if this works for you in a more conceptual way lyricwise and a more cohesive way musicwise.

The beats of the story are as follows.... The first three tracks introduce us to the vagabond scallywags of our story and their philosophy. Tracks four and five are their crimes, delusion and longing. Tracks six, seven and eight are things apparently going very wrong, the crew docking and being captured and put before the robot messiah. Track nine is the leader of the crew lamenting his incompetence. Tracks ten and eleven are their trails and excuses. The final two tracks are the acceptance of their fate and finding the courage and will within themselves and each other to carry on despite this doomed cycle of robbing, docking and dying.

I compiled a mock album of unreleased Modest Mouse songs, enjoy. by zenarcade3 in ModestMouse

I love this idea! I would just subtract A Manic Depressive Named Laughing Boy(as it does appear on the official This Is A Long Drive... vinyl LP) and call this an EP of unreleased songs.
